DESCRIPTION |
The MC75 Star Cruiser was well known during its time, having first served as Mon Calamari City Ships prior to their retrofitting and conversion into Capital Ships for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Since their initial creation, further designs and models have seen service, and it is the Raddus-class that continues to carry that design line of Capital Ships into the future as it serves alongside the warships of the Galactic Alliance Navy. The Raddus-class was designed to serve, first and foremost, as a Dedicated Carrier, with the ability to support and deploy four Starfighter Wings - organized into three squadrons per wing; additionally, it has the capacity to support an additional three squadrons of Support Craft and Shuttles. This design furthers the primary tactic of Starfighter Superiority with these squadrons often assisting other Capital Ships in the fleet that the Raddus-class will often find itself at the center. Retaining many design aesthetics and similarities of more common Mon Cala ship designs, the Raddus-class is also known to be highly modular, with its interior being easily modified and refitting to fulfill a variety of roles outside of its standard classifications as a Dedicated Carrier or serving in the role as a Command Ship. This modularity is further assisted by many of the secondary and tertiary systems being highly automated, allowing for a smaller crew to operate the vessel without a drop in efficiency or overall capabilities. However, this design and decision to automate these systems comes at a cost, as Ion-based weaponry can often wreak havoc, either disabling or destroying these systems and placing a larger burden on the crew. Keeping a link to its predecessors, the overall exterior design of the Raddus-class has remained the same, which can be seen in the large outrigger fin along the ventral side of the vessel; with the command pod being located at the extreme end of this fin. This allows for a greater, commanding view of an engagement at the potential cost of safety, as the command pod can be easily targeted, disabled, or potentially damaged in such a way that the vessel would be rendered inoperable. Though not intended to be thrown directly into the fray, the Raddus-class was still equipped with heavier armaments, however, many of these systems are located along the port and starboard which prevent them from being fired unless unleashed as a full broadside; a tactic which is only used sparingly and usually against vessels that have all but been disabled. The development of the Raddus-class continues the further buildup of the Galactic Alliance Navy by introducing newer designs and updated variants of older vessels that had seen service in prior conflicts. Likewise, its addition to the fleet provides commanders with a new means to command their fleets, or further supplement their Starfighter and Bomber Squadrons with the addition of a new Carrier. As it stands, the Raddus-class line of Capital Ships has a long life of service ahead of them. |
