Rafe was not born on Nelvaan, the homeworld of his species, in fact he was born in transit on board a small freighter. A month prior to his birth his mother, aunt, and five of his adolescent cousins took to the skies following the deaths of his father and uncle in a skirmish on their homeworld. For the first eight months of his life he and his family lived on board that freighter, his mother and aunt running odd jobs mostly centered around freight hauling to keep the pack fed, and the ship running.
The second in a long series of unfortunate events that make up Rafe's life would occur only eight months into his life. The perils of life in the outer rim were no secret to anyone, and those who made their way there usually knew the risks. As is the tradition for small unguarded ships, particularly freighters, they were set upon by savage corsairs. The specifics of the events that followed are lost to the deepest recesses of Rafe's mind, hardly old enough to recall anything yet, he was left alive, though none of the others in his pack were as lucky as he. The hull emptied, and the rest of the ship ransacked, Rafe lay on his mothers bed as the pirates fled the scene in their own ship.
For five days the small freighter drifted aimlessly though the abyss of space, his family members bodies rotting on the floors while Rafe starved nearly to death. If not for technology, Rafe's story would have ended there, the short range distress signal was still active, the equivalent of lighting a bonfire while marooned on an island, and what would almost seem like divine intervention brought a ship whose hyperspace calculations were just off enough to bring it almost within view of Rafe's family ship.
The man Rafe would grow to know as his father was of Mandalorian stock, and a devote follower of "The Way," even to this day Rafe has no inkling what his father's face looked like, though he is almost certain he was human, or at the very least near human. For sixteen years Rafe, the young foundling, was raised to respect the history of Mandalore, trained in their traditions, and honed his skills in the art of combat on all platforms. Rafe grew to impressive size, the taint of the mutation was thick on his fathers side of his bloodline, though the history and culture of his species' homeworld was foreign and unknown to him, along with his natural size, and his adopted lifestyle Rafe became somewhat startling to behold, especially since Rafe was the only non-near-human Mandalorian that he'd ever known, though that did not stop him from being respected as he grew up beside his adopted father. Life, it seemed, was good. That was, of course, until fate stepped in to tell Rafe his place was elsewhere..
It was a routine job on Tatooine for the father son bounty hunter duo, one that would leave a lasting sense of paranoia in Rafe for the reat of his life, Rafe had been charged with returning the landspeeder they had rented from a local moisture farmer while his father took the target back to the ship.
Rafe would wake up a short time later, covered in chains, restrained, and locked in a metal box, his stature forcing the slavers to take great precaution it seemed. Naturally he was stripped of his gear, and his helmet.. after a few days trapped in the box, he was transported, to this day he's not sure where, but the destination was hot.. He'd been sold into some sort of gladiatorial slave ring. Rafe would be lying even today if he didn't admit he sometimes missed the simplicity of the years that would follow, his sole purpose to fight, eat, and make use of consorts provided by his owner. Multiple fights a week, Rafe would reliably win over and over his size and strength, coupled with his mandalorian training putting his opponents at a severe disadvantage against him. It was probably four or five years Rafe remained in this world, never really seeking his freedom, the life provided for him here was comfortable enough. Once again, though the circumstances may not have been perfect, Rafe found himself happy for a time, he may not have been "free" persay, but he had everything he needed, was treated well, and got to do what he enjoyed pretty often. Though he had pretty much abandoned "The Way" at this point due to his lack of appropriate headgear, Rafe still trained regularly.
The [insert good guys name]... a great annoyance in his life, they busted in, took down his master, and the guards, and freed the salves. It seemed Rafe again, was free, though with a notable purpose void left in his life. Sure the [insert good guys name] had freed him, but then they just left the lot of them creditless and stranded on Kuat. Confused about how to proceed, Rafe landed a putz job at the KDY, though he'd only work there for a few months, which was for the best as fabrication work, and starship repair was not his strong point... Thankfully his appearance would land him favor with the seedy types around Kuat, and he hitched on with a band of pirates.
Rafe looked at it differently than most would in his position, he did not curse the pirates, or the slavers of his past, but rather his family, and himself for being weak enough to succumb to them. In his mind, if you cannot protect yourself, you deserve what's coming to you.
Piracy fit Rafe well, and the income it provided fit him even better, the years of it building him up to be a very reliable pilot, and a great leader among his current crew, which had at this point almost become more like a family, though they operated the ship more like a democracy within the ship, each crewmember having a single vote for most matters of importance. -
Though level headed, Rafe enjoys the thrill of battle, and wouldn't turn down a chance at a scrap if one presented itself. In that same hand however, Rafe is capable of a level of savagery and brutality some can rarely imagine. -
Strengths and Weaknesses
+CQC Mastery - Sword, claw, or just a broken beer bottle, in close quarters one would be hard pressed to find an advantage on this monster, standing over a meter taller than the average human, and with the muscle to fit, Rafe is a terror to behold in a melee.
+Cowboy - At medium range or less Rafe could shoot a fly off one's shoulder without burning their jacket.
+Excellent Pilot - "There's always someone better than you" might be a true statement for any topic, but many times Rafe has been that someone when it comes to ship to ship dogfighting.
+Quickness and Agility - Rafe is unnaturally fast, on two legs or all four, his size and muscle mass adding to his ludicrously fast speed and reflexes. Don't challenge him to a foot race..
-Disorganized - Usually just kick open the door loud and proud and try to make all the right pieces all fall into place.
-Death Stick Addiction - everyday, multiple times a day.
-Quick to Anger - Sometimes it can feel like talking to a brick wall... one that wants to rip your throat out..
-Spice Inclination - Well everyone's got that pleasure.
-Untrusting - Friendships with Rafe are a long and testing road.
-Currency Inclination - For pirates, not all treasure is silver and gold... But most of it is.. Where the money is, Rafe is likely also there.
~Exceedingly Violent - Savage, Brutal, Unfeeling.. Rafe rarely just kills someone, there is usually a room full of blood signifying each of his kills.
~Fair negotiator - Rafe loves currency, being rich is his goal, but when making a purchase or an exchange Rafe isn't just out to screw over his business partners, that's just bad business..
~Determined - Rafe can tell when a situtation isn't going his way, and has no fear of disengaging when obviously outpowered, that said however, Rafe will usually find a way to return with more advantageous circumstances.
