GENERAL INFORMATION
Unit Name: Raiders of the Vortex
Affiliation: Saeva
Classification: Space Pirates
Description: The Raiders of the Vortex is a small but growing band of pirates loyal to Saeva, on account of him killing their previous leader and being a generally scary dude. They're a diverse group, composed of various human and non-human species, though the majority are human. They have no fixed uniform, but most have some form of black armour. Many of the pirates are enhanced by cybernetics. Due to their frequent use of gas, they will almost always be seen in action wearing a rebreather mask.
Their fleet is composed of a variety of corvettes, frigates and starfighters. New ships are acquired by ganging up on stronger ships. As such new additions come on a 'take what you can get' basis. Two notable ships within the pirate fleet were the Stormspike and Black Talon.
These pirates are united by a common desire: the acquisition of wealth through quick and ruthless means. For credits and glory they strike out against weak and exposed targets, taking whatever jobs that maximises the balance between profit and risk, favouring the former. Still, they have grown bolder after falling under the leadership of a Sith. The rigorous standards enforced by said Sith has in turn led to a batch of pirates who are more disciplined and coordinated than your average Outer Rim crew.
COMBAT INFORMATION:
Unit Size: Medium
Unit Availability: Uncommon
Unit Experience: Trained
Equipment: The Raiders of the Vortex don't have any standardized sets of equipment, whether in regards to weapons, armour, or even their ships. The only exception being that each pirate is equipped with rebreather masks to be more effective when boarding. Crew members use a varied assortment of blasters, slugthrowers, blaze cutlasses, force pikes, vibroweapons and grenades either provided by themselves or from the crew's storage that grows after every successful raid.
Combat Function: The Vortex fleets focus heavily on hit and run tactics. They tend to favour targets of either inferior numbers or armaments. The goal is almost always to quickly disable targeted ships, board them and take what valuables they can, the ships included. A common tactic is to use non-lethal toxic gas before boarding. They will kill or maim those who fight them without mercy, but whatever captives they can take can in turn be held for ransom or sold into slavery for a profit death would only serve to rob them of. That said, they fight with brutality, aiming to strike fear into their enemies and encourage a swift surrender.
Force Abilities (Force User Units Only): N/A
Strengths:
- Punching Down: These pirates know their job and they do it well. They don't like to pick a fight they can't win, so chances are if they pick a fight with you, you're in trouble.
- Hit & Run: These pirates are used to working efficiently to accomplish what they can, and get out in a hurry before authorities arrive in greater force. They will use gas to knock out as many of their victims as they can, and overwhelm the rest using combined arms for close quarters combat.
- When the Rum is Gone: For all their improvements in discipline, they are still pirates in it for themselves. When the going gets tough, they are likely to cut and run so they may live to fight another day (or return in greater numbers)
- Not an Army: These are jack of all trades space pirates, not ground troops. They're trained to hit and run, and are not effective as infantry
The Raiders of the Vortex operate out of Vortex Station. It is unclear which got the name from which. The station exists at secret coordinates in the Outer Rim. The pirate crew mainly operates within the Outer Rim as well. The Vortex pirates were for the longest time just like your average space pirates, until they experienced a Change in Management, curtesy of the Sith Order. Two young Sith, Darth Strosius and Saeva took the station in a swift attack. Their orders were to either eliminate or, if possible, take over the organization. Together they struck a deal, which saw Saeva take charge of the station and its merry band of space vagabonds.
The change in leadership saw the crew transform from an average batch of pirates into a more disciplined and coordinated unit. Naturally they were not as disciplined as a military fleet, but they knew it and played to their strengths. They used what they had to gain even more, take what they needed and sell what they didn't. Living the life as true raiders, they sought to strike targets quickly and get out before a response could be sent out to counter them.
Under the Sith's leadership their profits would greatly increase, as would their notoriety, for better or worse...
