Born to a middle-class family on Coruscant, Rance took a mature, but some would say pigheaded, approach to his education and life choices. He knew what he wanted to be early in life. He wanted to follow in his late father's footsteps.
His father, Revet Valere, had been a decorated detective in the Coruscant Security Force and married a bit later than many of his workmates. The 18 year age gap between Revet and his bride Klaire was a small talking point, but it quickly faded into the background as their happy life blossomed and produced 4 precocious, yet endearing, children.
Rance was only 7 years old the day that his very pregnant mother went to the door, and could be heard sobbing within moments. His siblings crowded around him as he peerd around the corner. They whispered their desire to know what was going on, but he simply sushed them. He knew. He could see his father's partner at the door, face forlorn and tearful. Revet Valere...was dead.
Rance took on a deep seated determination to do all he could to replace his father in the home, right down to his determination to become a detective himself. This former desire is still debatable as to his success, but the latter became a reality at the age of 26 when he received his promotion to Junior Detective in the Coruscant Security Force. It was a bittersweet day for his widowed mother, nevertheless she was proud.
That same day. As if the universe had conspired against Rance, they received word that his sister Adalai (who was on the same career path) had seemingly gone rogue, shot an informant and disappeared with a dossier on the notorious serial killer known only as the Thistlebark Killer. All of Rance's warnings to her had gone unheeded. She had gotten in too deep. She had...lost herself.
Everyone at the precinct looked differently at him the next day. No one congratulated him on the promotion, and he was not cleared for field duty. He was being punished for his fugitive sister's crimes. Ultimately, Rance had no choice but to seek his future elsewhere, leading him to pulling some strings on his father's homeworld of Naboo, where an opportunity awaits to create his own legacy, free of the effects of his rogue sister.
