Intent: I realized that flares and chaff aren't as effective in the SW-verse, and decided that a new kind of countermeasure would really market in this environment.
Development Thread: None
Manufacturer: Ri'ess Regal Drives
Model: Ri'ess Countermeasures 1 "Wispmother" Duplicating Countermeasure
Affiliation: Open Market
Modularity: Can be equipped on virtually any craft (though is highly impractical post-capital)
Production: Mass-Produced
Material: Plasteel, Ceramics, Ion Catalyst
Description: A truly innovational and useful device, the humble Wispmother countermeasure is a simple but masterfully-engineered device capable of a broader range of counter-tracking compared to traditional, ancient flare and chaff systems. The Wispmother includes a small ionic core based loosely on the Starscream engine, which activates to dump a huge ionic trail behind after it initiates, often able to throw guided ordinance off of the trail of the original craft so long as they lower their engine output during the deployment of said countermeasures. These small missile-like probes eventually split off in different directions, effectively leading the ordinance away from the actual craft. Even capital tracking systems have difficulty discerning the differences in signatures, and automated systems without human interface are highly likely to mistake the countermeasures for the genuine article. The Wispmother also has a high heat displacement byproduct thanks to its overdriven micro ion engine and lack of cooling system, which can fool thermal/infra-red sensors, and includes a small radar emissions beacon with IFF encoding in its nose to place false readings in proximity mirroring its deploying craft.
There are no real drawbacks to the system, though it is considered that the short thrust duration of the countermeasure (approximately 4 seconds) is a trade-off for its heavy output. Size is also a primary concern, as the system is too large to effectively install in interceptor-sized craft or smaller. However, it is not impossible to do so and will take up all of that interceptor's missile slots to install. On fighters, it is the equivalent of one warhead launcher or bay (and all included warheads), and on small ships, it takes the place of one defense weapon. Double capacity can be attained, granted there is enough room, by sacrificing another launcher slot. Many may be used on ships and linked together, provided a point defense slot is paid for each.
Note: Wispmother is not effective against Capital-Ship Missiles such as the Assault Concussion Missile, whether guided or not!!!
Interceptor: 4 Uses, 4 RCMs per Use, All Launcher Slots
Fighter: 3 Uses, 6 RCMs per Use, 1 Launcher Slot
Bomber: 2 Uses, 9 RCMs per Use, 1 Launcher Slot
Gunship: 3 Uses, 12 RCMs per Use, 2 Launcher Slot
Sub-Capital Ship: 5 Uses, 6 RCMs per Use, 1 Point Defense Slot

Why didn't I just make it one flat rate? Larger craft means larger quantities to be effective, so there'd be some huge issues with effectivity consistency.
