AMCO
I'm Sorry Dave
- Intent: A small but capable boarding craft for the Open Market.
- Image Source: The Expanse - Breaching Pod by Ryan Dening
- Canon Link: N/A
- Permissions: N/A
- Primary Source: Droch-class Boarding Ship
- Manufacturer: The Globex Corporation
- Affiliation: Globex Security Division
- Market Status: Open-Market | Closed-Market (Midnight-variant)
- Model: Reaver-class Boarding Pod
- The Midnight Reaver variant is rarer and more expensive (see Production) but has a Defences Rating of Very High, a Manoeuvrability Rating of Average/Very Low, and more advanced sensor jammers for covert assignments; they are usually outfitted with Hyperdrives.
- Production: Mass-Produced | Limited (Midnight-variant)
- Material: Carbon-Nanofilament Hull
- Classification: Boarding Craft
- Length: 5 metres
- Width: 5 metres
- Height: 5 metres
- Armament: Very Low
- [1] Short-Range Shieldbuster Charge
- [4] High-Performance Plasma Torches
- Defences: High
- Squadron Count: Very High | 20
- Manoeuvrability Rating: Low | None (SLAM)
- Speed Rating: Average | Very High (SLAM)
- Hyperdrive: None or Jumpmaster 1.01 Microdrive
- Passenger Capacity: 9 Synthmarines/Soldiers (3x3x3 metre Compartment)
- May hold a larger/smaller complement of combatants depending on their size.
- May hold more/fewer people depending on their willingness to be shoved together.
- May be reconfigured to carry 36 Stryders/Spiderbots in nine honeycomb-like holding tubes.
- Three wide, three tall, four in each tube; 0.8 metre diameter tubes surrounded by wall segment. Can fit sixty-four by switching to four-by-four tube layout, requires specialised paper-thin carbon-nanofilament interior walls and slight expansion of compartment.
- May be combined with the standard compartment; a single row holding 12 Stryders/Spiderbots rests above the soldiers' heads.
- May be reconfigured to carry, e.g., explosives/gas meant to be deposited directly into a ship's hallways.
- The Reaver-class is outfitted with all the features one would expect from a vessel of its purpose, including heavy-duty inertial dampers.
- The specialised Shieldbuster Charges carried by the Reaver-class are distinct from conventional plasma torpedoes in that they aspire only to smash open a small entry hole in a vessel's shield as opposed to disabling it entirely; they are very good at their niche task, however.
- A sensor jammer suite impedes targeting locks and can allow Reavers to go unnoticed, especially in chaotic battlefields.
- May carry animated metal sealant dispensers and thin duranium plates to patch up its own entry holes.
- An integrated SLAM drive allows for bursts of extreme speed, usually as part of the final approach.
- Reavers are piloted by an integrated data-brain to save space for the boarding complement.
- Knock Knock: The Reaver-class excels at creating small breaches in shields/hulls to offload boarding parties.
- Vulnerable: The Reaver-class is not designed for dogfighting; it carries exactly zero proper weapons.
- Cramped: The Reaver-class is built for efficiency, not comfort; don't expect "luxuries" like refreshers.
- Backstab: The Reaver-class sports highly-effective forward shields but subpar rearward protection.
A small but efficient vessel designed to pierce a capital ship or space station's particle shields, establish its own vacuum seal, then cut through the hull with its quartet of plasma torches in order to deposit a small boarding party, the Reaver-class is as specialised as they come; shuttles that double as boarding craft have their place, certainly, but every once in a while a purpose-built design is needed - enter the Reaver.
Given Globex's liberal approach to shipbuilding - any shipwright or government may create their own in exchange for a per-ship licensing fee - these are sometimes seen in the hands of pirates, slavers, and other scum. Ever brand-conscious, the Globex Security Division considers such vermin enemies of civilisation and will go out of their way to hunt them down in order to track down and penalise their suppliers.
