The desire to defend one’s territory was essential to forming a Kingdom, let alone an Empire amongst the Stars. Thus, the Republic Engineering Corporation sought to carry that desire forward. To make it manifest. Therefore, their design teams looked to the past in order to safeguard the future. From a restored data cache, the technicians managed to uncover the intricacies of the Golan-series and what made them so effective in the past. They took what they learned, and meshed their findings with the knowledge from the modern era. This marriage of past ideologies and modern technologies would combine to create a battlestation that would ensure the prosperity of the future. Or at the very least, avenge the dreams of tomorrow should others manage to tear them down.
The REC/SDP-01 “Redoubt” - Class Planetary Defense Platform was considered to be the epitome of Spatial Defensive Structures. Naturally, there was some bias that came along with this statement, but Republic Engineering didn’t care. It was their belief that their hands had crafted the ultimatum - the answer to all of their problems when it came to erecting spatial defences. At its core, the Redoubt was an expansive bulwark that was riddled with gun batteries, defensive emplacements, and a comprehensive point defence network that covered almost every conceivable angle. Just through sheer firepower alone, the Defence Platform would be capable of defending itself, and engaging even the smallest of starfighters, to the largest of battleships.
Naturally, such a capability was wholly reliant on the invading Warships and their Commanders, as even though this Redoubt was armed to the teeth and seemingly impregnable - it was far from invincible. There were some warships that were likely to resist the impressive power that the Defence Platform brought to bear, and there were even some that could eventually batter down the Station’s defences - leaving it ripe for the taking. Even then, should this be a route the invaders sought to pursue, it would be an arduous task that would likely result in a steadily-climbing casualty rate. The internal terrain was wholly designed to support and assist the defenders in repulsing almost any attacking force.
Not through the strength of arms, as there was little a Battalion could do in a straight-up fight. But, through the home-field advantage of knowing the artificial terrain, and the countless integrated defensive systems that would alter the battlefield as the defending force desired.
In addition, the Redoubt was equipped with an impressive defensive suite - one that even rivals some of the most advanced warships of the modern era. With multiple layers of shielding, both primary and redundant, the Defence Platform would be capable of breaking Squadrons of Warships at a time, before their barriers fell. Even going so far as to resist the invasive functionality of Individual Field Disruptors - as they’d be forced to rapidly alter their harmonic frequencies to punch through one barrier after the other. Making it nigh-impossible to breach the Installation through brute-force, without severely overwhelming the station’s impressive list of defences first.
From there, the design team would find themselves tripping over themselves in delight by fully explaining and fleshing out the capabilities of their Corporation’s newest offering. However, they elected to focus their efforts elsewhere - as their chances to remain at the bleeding edge of technology was slowly beginning to dwindle, thanks in part to the rapid advancement of applied sciences across the known galaxy.
Thus, it was with their collective graces, that the Redoubt was christened and set forth across the Stars.
