In the aftermath of the Core-Imperial Confederation’s sudden, and inexplicable collapse, the Republic Engineering Corporation found itself in possession of a priceless artifact. It was a functioning database that possessed the ancient schematics of vessels that were long-forgotten by the Galaxy at large. Every warship and starfighter that ever served the Old Republic were now in the hands of those that had the skills to give their venerable designs new life within the modern era. As more and more code was translated from one databank to another, the various design teams within the Shipwright Division began rolling out their newfound designs to the Board of Directors; who ultimately gave them the green light to pursue the various items that were attached to Project: Restoration.
With the details regarding the Venator decrypted and available for the design team’s use, they found themselves smashing into their first technical roadblock. The Board of Directors wouldn’t approve a vessel that bore similarities, in both aesthetics and functionality, to an already wildly popular warship. It would’ve been a foolish endeavour to be one’s own competition. Thus, the ancient Star Destroyer was sent back to the drawing board - all so the vessel would find new life in the hands of skilled architects. When the vessel was pushed back to the conceptual stage, the first objective was to scale everything up. The warship had to be bigger, as if the Venator was a Battlecruiser, it’d likely become a popular centrepiece to many Flotillas throughout the known universe.
The ‘Redeemer,’ as the first prototype of this new line of starships was aptly named, was designed to operate in a flexible and hybridized capacity. Not only was the warship able to act as a long-range battleship, meant to support its allies and engage hostile starships from afar, but as a dedicated Fleet Carrier as well. However, despite the advances in the ‘Redeemer’s design, the warship fell short of meeting it’s spiritual predecessor’s original schematics. That factor was of little consequence, however, as the lack of starfighter carrying capacity was more than made up for with advanced technologies, and a plethora of additional systems.
One of the most notable features of the ‘Redeemer,’ aside from its increased size, was the lack of a secondary command tower. With the primary and secondary command deck’s buried within the armoured hull of the warship - the sole remaining tower became a dedicated observation and starfighter command bridge. While they wouldn’t be able to truly observe the tumultuous ebbs and flows of battle, provided the warship wasn’t in the thick of battle, a high-ranking Officer would still be able to oversee and coordinate his fleet’s entire operation within the sector. Through the use of innovative technologies, and state of the art holographic displays would constantly find themselves updating in split-second intervals.
All in the pursuit of mastery over the spatial battlefield, as knowledge equated to power.
In addition to the removal of one of the command towers, the ‘Redeemer’ was outfitted with a plethora of internal systems that made the warship stand a cut above the rest that currently populated the market. Its internal bulkheads were lined with modules and nodes that were filled with animated metal sealant - which would spring into life the moment those devices detected a hull breach. The semi-sentient metal would rapidly fill the wound in the ship’s bulkhead - either trapping would-be boarders in their vessels or saving portions of the reduced crew from void exposure. Working in tandem with the internal method of repair, the warship was coated in a honeycombed layer of Laminanium - which would attempt to stitch itself back together giving the ‘Redeemer’ a measure of regeneration. However, while these methods would safeguard the ship from smaller fissures, anything larger would require significant time dry-docked in order to be brought back into fighting shape.
One of the most interesting features that worked its way into the warship's design, was the integrated blaster neutralizers. Originally, the system was supposedly installed on the first Death Star - which robbed the blasters of that era of their potency. However, the schematics were corrupted and there was much information that wasn’t available. So, the design team began fabricating their own - which came in the form of a projected energy field that interfered with certain power sources - robbing them of their power and dropping the effectiveness of any conventional energy weapon. These emitters were outfitted throughout the entirety of the warship and were curiously incapable of leeching the lethality from particle beam blasters, or their high-powered cousins - disruptors.
Thus, through these advancements and changes in the classical starship’s design, the ‘Redeemer’ seeks to not only be a worthy successor to the Venator-class but a warship worthy of its own legacy in the modern era.
