In the aftermath of the Core-Imperial Confederation’s sudden, and inexplicable collapse, the Republic Engineering Corporation found itself in possession of a priceless artifact. It was a functioning database that possessed the ancient schematics of vessels that were long-forgotten by the Galaxy at large. Every warship and starfighter that ever served the Old Republic were now in the hands of those that had the skills to give their venerable designs new life within the modern era. As more and more code was translated from one database to another, the various design teams within the Shipwright Division began rolling out their newfound designs to the Board of Directors; who ultimately gave them the green light to pursue the various items that were attached to Project: Restoration.
Whilst several design teams found themselves in possession of ancient schematics for the largest vessels within the Old Republic’s navy, there was a team that found itself tasked with re-creating the smaller vessels. The intent was to flesh out a prospective customer’s navy with combat-capable warships that would be able to fit a variety of roles, but within their respective classifications for costing and staffing purposes. Much to the chagrin of Warlord’s across time and space, there was no such thing as a perfect warship. Thus, as it ever was, entire armada’s were populated by warships that filled a multitude of roles - each seeking to cover the weakness of their sister ships.
However, despite the ever-increasing amount of gargantuan starships, there was an ever-present need for starfighter-bombers - that’d batter down the enemy’s defences and leave nothing but smouldering ruins in their wake.
To achieve this goal, the design team at Republic Engineering Corporation believed that there was a starfighter who exemplified those destructive ideals. Sadly, the K-wing schematics weren’t stored within the files of the venerable data bank. So, the design team elected to utilize the only model that was contained within that procured device. It was the original Y-wing - not the stripped-down variants made by the Rebel Alliance during the battle against the reigning Galactic Empire. The bomber itself was a potent adversary but suffered from slower acceleration speeds - which was ultimately corrected but at a cost of the heavy armour plating. As safety was paramount at REC - they refused to follow through with such dangerous practices. Instead, the design team elected to maintain the heavily armoured vessel and doubled-down on its armament.
While the Starbomber would have to be escorted, and likely have the way cleared for its arrival, the newest iteration of the Y-wing would be capable of utterly devastating whatever stood in its way. To achieve that goal of unparalleled destruction, the Starbomber was equipped with twinned bomblet generators that would theoretically generate an unlimited number of proton bombs - so long as the reactor held a spark of power. These proton bombs were rendered into reality by a combination of directly-drawn plasma and magnetic shielding, which in turn were expelled from the bomb bay before smashing into their intended targets. While these munitions relied on their discharged momentum, rather than sophisticated tracking technology to hit their targets, these explosives were more powerful than their proton torpedo and concussion missile cousins.
With such significant power in the palm of an operator’s hands, the newly christened inheritor to the Y-wing series would become a terror to any shielded, and unshielded target alike as it battered down their defences.
