The initial intention of the secession was sparked by the Echani belief that the Republic is no longer the Republic. When it accepted the Galactic Empire as a member state, that mentality further niggled its way into the Republic's brain. There were problems before, but they have become more evident since. So, Eshan won't support an Empire.
Now, the belief is that the Republic is going to fall. I already know that the decision has been made that Roche is lost to the Mandalorians. With nothing being done about Ali, they are going to keep coming, and they have smart enough minds to know how to beat down the Republic into nothingness. Securing Eshan as we did secures it from Mandalorian attack, more or less.
Once the Mandos and Sith carve the Republic apart using the map game, the Compact is going to launch a movement for the formation of the New Republic. This new major government that will replace the Galactic Republic will be based on the ideals of the Republic, but without the ills of the old one by virtue of structural change. The Senate will still exist, and they will have actual deciding power in the direction of the faction, instead of letting everything be decided by the military members. There will be no Supreme Chancellor or Supreme Commander, rolls that belong in the Empire and not the Republic. There will be a Chancellor, but that role will largely exist as the mouthpiece and controller of the senate, not as the leader of the Republic. The military, since it is funded by the people, will act only in accordance with what the Senate deems appropriate.
Of course there will always be blacklisted actions, but those will always be dealt with ICly.
