OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
"The Brightest Stars Burns Out the Fastest"
As with many things, the creation of Redline began as an accident.
Following the dissolution of the Bryn'adul Empire, all manner of criminals and smugglers wasted time resuming spice mining operations on Kessel. However, these groups would return to a world made even harsher by its most recent overlords. Inhospitable had degenerated to downright toxic for most people without hardsuits. That was all on top of the fighting among various outfits to secure the most profitable veins of spice and other materials. It was a high reward but high-risk environment.
In an effort to avoid conflict with larger mining operations, the fledgling Red Krayts opted to lay stake on lands near the remains of the Bryn Superstructure on Kessel. While thought to be largely abandoned, most people were spooked to work near it after the collective traumatizing experience of the xenodical zealots was still fresh in their minds.
The fears seem unfounded as the Red Krayts set up shop in a dried-up basin and began their mining operations in earnest. In time the Red Krayt not online extracted spice, but also coaxium in the area, which proved to be equally valuable as it was a rare source of hypermatter that could be sold on the white market. With the lack of competition in the immediate area, the Red Krayts were able to turn a quick profit on a daring venture. Their operation was made even more efficient and relatively safe with the exclusive deployment of droids for subterranean operations.
For a time, everything seemed hunky-dory as the Red Krayts reaped ever greater profits and gradually expanded their operations in the basin. However, the expansion of their newest spice mine disturbed a feral Servitor that had made the basin its territory. In a rage, it sought to sink the Red Krayt's operation under the sand, quite literally.
A few strafing runs and seismic charges later, the titanic worm was put down, but at no small cost to the Red Krayt. Several mines suffered cave-ins, surface processing facilities were now submerged under tons of sand. In the case of the latter, it took hours to retrieve the miners, all of whom were directly exposed to extreme levels of processed spice and coaxium.
As the recovered miners were treated, strange effects were noted by medics, attributed to the long-term exposure of potent chemicals in tandem. Upon further examination, researchers saw dramatic changes in brain activity resulting in improved mental faculties in certain areas like reaction time and spatial awareness. Even signs of some form of extrasensory perception. Affected miners claimed they could see the inner workings of the universe itself - the ultimate high.
The Red Krayt immediately saw the benefits of such exposure and worked to recreate the conditions of the accident in a lab setting in reverse. Eventually, they worked out a new compound made from glitterstim and coaxium. Glitterstim could enhance mental capabilities on its own, but when laced with the hypermatter in a particular way the effects seemed supercharged. It was not only ideal as a new form of potent narcotic, but also useful as a mental stim.
While initially fearing a complete wipe of their Kessel operations, the Red Krayt were delighted to stumble upon a new revenue stream. Within their territory, the use of Redline has quickly proliferated for both recreational use, and combat applications among Underworld operators like pirates and hitmen. They have seen the obvious benefits like greatly improved piloting rivaling the best aces of the known galaxy, able to easily and consistently perform dangerous maneuvers like precision micro-jumps and lightskipping with no nav-computers on the fly - ideal for quickly plotting ambushes and getaways. This isn't on the level of true Instinctive Astrogation capable by Force Users and native space-faring species, but it is still beyond the capabilities of normal pilots. Meanwhile, mercs get an extra edge in combat, even matching well against Force Users who usually command the advantage with precognitive abilities.
The ultimate high of Redline is more than matched by its withdrawal. Previously snappy users reported harsh after-effects like losing a grip on the perception of time or even being unable to stand straight without feeling dizziness. To stave off the symptoms, users may continuously consume low levels of Redline, but then this puts them at increased risk of long-term effects like degenerating nerves and crippling pain.
So the use of Redline becomes a gamble, but among the intended crowd, it's just another among many.
- Intent: Testing out the consumable template, and creating a new drug for use in future storylines.

- Nutritional Value: None
- Allergies: No known allergens in production.
- Side Effects:
- Irises glow ruby red, and their vision takes on a strong red tinge.
- Immediate withdrawal systems may include psychosis, blackouts, increased aggression and irritability, and vertigo.
- Long-term effects can include more severe versions of the above side effects from immediate withdrawal, in addition to debilitating nerve damage and impaired motor functions.
- Purpose: Mental performance enhancer, Narcotic
- Greatly reduced reaction times verging on precognition
- Greatly enhanced spatial awareness
- Greatly increased resistance to telepathic attacks and hypnosis, particularly related to inducing dread.
- Can grant acute perception of space-time/fourth dimension
- A feeling of euphoria (high) and reduced fear.
- Fast Acting: Following initial inhalation, the full effects of the drug only take about a minute to kick in.
- Nirvana: Among the numerous types of Spice, Redline - better known as Halo in recreational circles - boasts some of the strongest psychedelic and euphoric effects in even small doses.
- Speed: In high doses, users experience greatly enhanced mental faculties ideal for piloting and general combat.
- Joyrider: Users can operate fearlessly with their usual fight or flight response suspended. This helps contribute to increased mental resistance to telepathic and hypnotic suggestions.
- Burnout: The positive effects of Redline use wear out relatively quickly, while the withdrawal symptoms roll in almost immediately. So for combat use, it's definitely not recommended for extended operations and its deployment should be well-timed.
- Daredevil: The reduction of fear + the euphoric boost may give users a strong urge to make extremely risky decisions they normally wouldn't make otherwise.
- Addictive: It takes as little as one large dose to immediately hook users, especially as the withdrawal effects are quick to be experienced after an initial high.
- Forcers Need Not Apply: Redline induces extreme sensory overload to Force Users, resulting in lethal seizures. The theory among the Red Krayt goes that as the drug enhances base mental abilities, it appears to make those already Force Users too sensitive to the Force and their surroundings, frying their brain with too much sudden input.
