- Exceptional Firepower - The Relentless-class has direct firepower nearly on the level of a cruiser. In one-on-one, head-to-head fights, the Relentless will almost always destroy an enemy frigate before it would succumb.
- Forward Arc - Virtually all of the Relentless' firepower is locked in its forward arc. Thus, if a capital ship is attacking the frigate from the sides or rear, it will do so with virtually no resistance whatsoever.
- More Like A Cruiser - The Relentless pays for its power as it is slower and less maneuverable than almost all other comparable frigates. This makes it more akin to a pocket destroyer than a frigate. Agile craft and capital ships can thus often dictate the terms of engagements outside of a fleet engagement.
The Relentless-class Assault Frigate was born at a time when the Protectorate was still struggling to establish itself as a galactic power. Resources were scarce and the people within the Protectorate needed a sign that they would be protected no matter what threat came to their door. For the dangers that plagued the Protectorate in those early days, namely pirates and the Bando Gora, the Relentless was a fine ship. It carried a number of heavy warheads and dual turbolasers to fend off would-be aggressors. It served with distinction in many campaigns against the Bando Gora as well as against pirate raiders in the Outer Rim territories.
However, times change and the Relentless began to show its age. Newer ships were designed and fielded as the Protectorate's wealth and power grew. Unwilling to leave a design to the wayside when it had served faithfully, the Lord Protector gave the order to refit the existing Relentless assault frigates with a more modern armament. The first step was coring the ship to add in mini-Javelin cannons. As this was a retrofit and not integrated from the start, the Relentless' structure cannot take the stress of two heavy mini-Javelins, so it was given one standard and one heavy. Caution is urged when firing the cannons if hull damage has been taken as the ship might damage itself further upon firing the cannons.
Along with the two main cannons, the Relentless has five dual heavy mass driver cannons and ten heavy ion cannons to give it teeth in close combat. Three assault concussion missile launchers and twelve light energy torpedo projectors further accent the long and short-range firepower of the ship. Sixteen flak cannons round out the ship's armament to defend it from incoming starfighter assaults.
The Relentless is designed as heavy frigate. Speed was not a wide consideration for the class, and so it predictably suffers. Though slightly smaller in profile than traditional cruisers, it moves just as sluggishly as its larger cousins. This means the ship is far better off serving as a planetary defense ship than as part of an offensive fleet. No commander should ever attempt to comprise a fleet solely of Relentless-class ships, or else they'll find themselves outflanked and in flames.
