PRELUDE
OUT OF THE FRYING PAN
A former noble of the Nachtlandir, standing on the Despotate of Vorhut's largest border-wall, given no real means of hope for a decent future....
At least, not until the early eastward pushes of the Imperium's early, rebellious makings diverted off their path to land on Krieg. Bringing diplomats and statesmen in their delegation, the warriors of the Vorhut Grenzgänger would find themselves pondering on the uniforms and the armour arrays of the troopers they brought with them as guardsmen of their own.
Thane Remmel Karsh was watching on from the gates' upper battlement, barely a day older than fifty, and his heart fluttered; the stars were calling to him, calling to everyone around him, drawing their eyes to the dropship in the distance as the concept of reaching the Galaxy once more returned to their minds, after twenty years of technological devolution that kept them from reaching other inhabited planets in their own star system.
But as soon as these matters changed for the peoples of Krieg, however, the Karsh family would be among the first to swear allegiance and dutybound service to the Iron Sun of the Imperium. Travelling to Ademar, then enrolling for service to try out as a trainee in Fort Rex, Remmel's lifetime of combat readiness would kick into overdrive early on. From the moment he was assigned to the 117th's 4-Cadre, fresh out of sniper-school with honours, the war for the heart of the Empire would keep Karsh busy for five years before any real respite could be found.

The next four years wouldn't be so easy, the next four years would have their way with the 117th's very own 19th Company, suffering untold losses on the western battlefront in their defence of Nirauan in particular by the end; and in that fight, 4-Cadre's ranks would be bled dry, leaving all but three sharpshooters to either receive honourable discharges or, in Karsh's case, integration into another unit with the 117th.
Karsh has been promoted twice to reach Captaincy in his tenure with 15th Company since, still reported to be leading and serving with distinction.
