Imperial
Research and Development

OOC: Hello and welcome to another Imperial Remnant thread. In this thread we will have a In Character R&D roleplay participation toward developing several different projects. I know that development threads are generated for each individual item but with the considerable number of active threads out there as is I felt the need to keep things in a concise and central environment.
For that reason I’ll be keeping a central tally located on this post for each project currently underway along with the writers/characters post #s associated with the project. I be linking the submission if it required a development thread or if modularity is in development. Also I will be looking to add a continual ‘Drawing board list’ that is linked to the entries in our factions internal factory.
The affiliated organizations drop down section will include all internal and external organizations involved with any project.

A long night
Another day
I had spent a good portion of late last night writing away. Having sent my adjutant to bed I decided to do some paperwork on my own. Another warship designed from the ground up… A large carrier vessel capable of providing immense support in fleet engagements. It was not to unlike the smaller crinan analog carrier that we had in our inventory.
A smile played onto my lips as I fondly thought back to the few times I’ve been in command of the crinan carrier. A wonderfully well rounded ship. The carrier I was struggling to design however was going to be providing an immense number of star fighters and bombers. Potentially twice as many than the crinan carrier.
I looked at the floor littered with crumpled paper notes. Stacks of data pads and hard drives that had been looted through on Valc. ‘Oh celestialsIts dawn?’ I let out a sigh and began to contemplate getting a cup of tea and I was staying at Fort Hyperion for the next week or so, the CO of the base was kind enough to grant me some office rooms on the sixth level. My gaze turned to the conference room adjacent to my office, which was presently empty.

It would soon be filled though with bright young minds and some of the top scientists we the Imperial Remnant had. Often this room was being used more and more since I had taken the administrative post. My gaze wandered out the window as I could see from this Fort, nestled on the slopes of the Tatiana mountain range that bordered the shipyards, the massive undertaking out there. As a series of Investments designed to defend against an orbital invasion and ground force attack could be viewed from these offices. The forts were being connected by this defense line and were coming along slowly.

As of late the weather near the mountains had put some delays into finishing the work.
I could feel the stubble growing on my own face.

My senses felt burned out…
I’m really dehydrated right now…’

I got up with a yawn and made my way to the office mess where an astromech droid poured me a glass of water from a decanter. I took a swig of the refreshing beverage and went back to my office and began to rummage around for my material to use in the next meeting. A few talking points maybe on the justification of even developing this carrier in the first place, along with some budgetary concerns.
Runo’s reassignment had disrupted my workflow, having her around made life smooth. She was working at the crinan's military academy as an instructor, teaching lessons on piloting shuttles and dropship in combat.. She needed a break from being an adjutant. After lasting as long as she had working for me she did well. Hopefully whom ever showed up at this meeting today might have some input. Everyone is busy these days so who knows who will be even available right now to work on this.

Which would be the second princess of Crina yet again.

It always seemed like she was immersed in some project or another somehow. Always working whether it was at CRI developing the next warship for the Remnant or her own people's navy. The Crinan Carrier and Destroyer analogs had been well received after their production, thanks mostly in part through the efforts of CRI's chief engineer Amelia Alberio who now accompanied the princess to this new meeting. The Carrier Analog especially was liked by the Imperials, who appreciated that the vessel had incorporated typical imperial themes in the design, mostly in its shape and accompanying color scheme.

Still, things never appeared to be enough when it came down to it. There was always more work to be done, more effort to put forth, and not all of it was rewarded. Of course some of it paid off, a lot of it did in the end, as Amelia Alberio could attest, as the chief engineer had been rewarded quite. . . .pleasantly by the Princess personally. Why the girl still looked a tad red and pleased with the matter, staying close to the princess and beaming quite radiantly as they entered the conference room and took their seats while awaiting for the others.

Alva wondered how long it would take. . . .maybe she would have enough time to reward the chief engineer again?

A small chime chirped in my office as the entrance door opened and closed.
‘Ah someone is here’ I couldn't really tell who was out there since I had stacked nearly the entirety of my belongings against the transparent wall to defeat the purpose of being able to see into my office.. A dress uniform and a few service uniforms hung on a coat rack neatly pressed and dry cleaned. “Good morning Sir or Ma’am, give me one moment I’ll be right out there”
I stole a glance out the window to watch a wing of imperial star fighters swing by. Another glorious day in the Imperial Remnant. Pushing the stack of datapads and rolled up documents under my right arm I made sure to grab my mug before exiting the cluttered room.

Ah Mi’lady Lt. Colonel Calvarona always a pleasure,” I spoke then put the stack of papers and datapads on the conference room table. I took note of Amelia Alberio, the woman seemed a little flushed for some reason perhaps being in an Imperial building made her uneasy. No as far as I can tell the Princess here tends to have a number of young woman around… ‘Oye I guess that could explain a few things, no matter who knows perhaps I’ll meet a young lady in her company that catches my eye

Chief Engineer Amelia Alberio of the Crina Royal Industries if I’m not mistaken? I’ve heard great things about you, especially the diligence and care of crafting our vessels. It is becoming common now to meet such an exquisite minds from this world” I strode over to her and proffered my hand.

[member="Caius Flavian"]

If it were a young lady in her company, poor Flavian would have no chance sadly, as Alva tended to include only certain types of women among her closest associates. The maids at the Palace would likely frustrate the poor Lieutenant Commander in their little outfits and adamant consensus to remain with the other maids and princesses for. . .certain activities. Regardless Crina's second princess wouldn't feel bad for the poor young man, who was objectively good looking one had to admit, because if he really wanted to dance with many of the girls he would likely meet in his work on Crina then he ought to look into swapping out a Y for an X.

Onto the actual business at hand though. Amelia would show she wasn't flustered as she took the Imperial's hand and shook it, with a slight frown on her face though. "Thank you. It was all on the Princess's orders though. She provided a rather impossible timetable for the Destroyer Analog we had to meet, which wouldn't have been possible without the Imperial aid in expanding the shipyards. I have to say though, we've heard of your work as well, you've been quite busy, I never got to hear much though. . . . .when they said you were pretty I hoped you were a woman if you don't mind me saying."

Alva barely restrained a giggle at that. Caius Flavian, slender, light hair, and neatly trim, certainly appear. . . .pretty. Leave out the pronoun game and maybe some Crinan people could think based on his vague physical descriptions and merits that he was female. Then again Crina was a tad matriarchal.

“Well I don’t mind at all to be called pretty I guess, not often a man gets that though I’ll ask that flattery be refrained from being used in my... Handsome would be more appropriate of a word…” I trailed off feeling a tad awkward from her response. The giggle from the Princess didn’t help, leaving me to suppress a flush in my cheeks. I turned away and strode back to the other side of the table.

“Well Miss Alberio you should certainly be proud of the work you have done, the history books will absolutely have your name well engraved for such abilities and feats. Let me know of course on whatever additional needs that your shipyard may require and I’ll see what I can do,” Despite my rank I had somehow gained a considerable amount of authority in certain matters. Granted, volunteering for nearly everything had earned me the right to make requests to the right people.

“Your skills are appreciated so I’m glad you are in attendance as we’ll be discussing a new carrier design that combined with the Carrier analog will ensure that we maintain void supremacy or the very least void superiority in major fleet engagements. My own ability at designing vessels are limited in the practical matters. I'm often more the visionary of ideas” I picked up some datapads and handed them over to the two ladies. “Now I arranged for a few amenities so if either of require a refreshment this little R5-D1 is available to provide service. I think I've extended an invitation to Captain Deschart as well and of course left this meeting open to any others who might be interested"

[member="Caius Flavian"]

It was Amelia's turn to turn red in the face when the Lieutenant Commander told her that her name would be engraved in history for her contributions. It likely well would be recognized considering how far the Andreea Shipyards had come since Amelia Alberio had taken the position of chief engineer. Although part of that may in part have had to do with the Imperial Remnant's arrival and their additions of more advanced technology and equipment for Crina Royal Industries use. Still, a lot of the improvements were a result of Amelia's hard work and ability to coordinate the dock crews and engineering department to their fullest capacity.

And that was why Alva had rewarded her quite well in such a personal and. . . .enjoyable manner. Albeit it was unofficial.

After Crina's second princess and chief engineer received the datapads from Caius they began looking over the files contained within them as he started telling them about the carrier project he apparently had called them in for. It made enough sense. The Crinan Carrier Analog was great, but it wasn't really a heavy hitter nor did it have terrifying hordes of squadrons. At the same time though, it was still rather impressive for a cruiser class vessel. "So is there anything you're thinking of with the design as it is Mr. Flavian." She could call him his rank, but if she had to add Lt. Commander everytime it would just waste unnecessary time. "I actually was going to ask the same. How large a vessel are we looking at? What role do you desire it to have outside of a carrier? Should we see about adding any special features? Advanced equipment? Or will we be arming it so it is also a powerful threat in addition to massive carrier."

Caius Flavian

First off this carrier line vessel is intended to be designed to support the Star Destroyer Lines. For clarification each SD Line is a single Star Destroyer III, this carrier line will consist of this vessel I have in mind along with its own attendant escorts such as the Crinan analog design to provide even further fighter craft to the achievement of void superiority. In answer to the role it will specifically hold outside of a carrier it shall have none. This vessel will purely be a dedicated carrier with perhaps heavier armor and shielding with a reliance on its escorts to provide the needed protective fire if it should end up in the forward fray of combat

I tapped a few buttons on the holoprojector and a vessel of Ancient design came up. The Venator Class Star Destroyer a vessel from the Clone wars that gave birth to the original Empire. I put the mug of tea down and began to emphatically gesture to assist in describing the differences of what I spoke of.

For size I would like it to between the dimensions of this particular old beast of war and the Imperial Star Destroyer III we currently have in the process of designing. Ideally I would like the number of strike craft to be almost double that of the venator with a reduction in fire power to compensate for heavier armor and shielding. Lastly for advanced weaponry or systems I would like to either incorporate a concept tried and true. Our military capabilities and personnel are a precious commodity that I don’t wish to squander like the predecessors of old,” I paused to take a sip of tea. The warm caffeinated beverage staved off the sleepless ache my body felt from being up all night. I took a seat and beckoned for them to do the same. I brought another vessel and a Starfighter, the Lucrehulk class Droid Control Ship and a Vulture Droid. “My intent in mitigating the impact of losing physical personnel on the battlefield. I would like to move toward utilizing droid fighter craft to be integrated into our void and air capabilities. For that to occur we will need to integrate the idea of advanced processor units. Or we utilize unmanned fighter craft piloted remotely on board the ship. Using the idea of these older vessels and fighter I would like to make this a key component of preventing the loss of lives from the direct result of void combat. However I don’t want to entirely replace the tried and true void pilot” I nodded to the Princess in acknowledgement of having formed the 181st and the considerable patience of finding appropriate dedicated pilots. “These Droid fighters are to be nimble and swift, expendable and easily replaceable. While the Carrier itself should have nearly 2/3 of its total complement consist of these droid fighters while the remainder being the strength of a Star Fighter Group. An SFG might be around the size of 160 pilots and fighters. I'm still finalizing the unit formations with other members of the officer corp as we transition into this new rank and command structure

I paused again to take another sip and looked over to the two women. “Now like I said I’m more of a visionary of design the actual practical and feasible implementation of any of this comes down to the brilliance of people such as you two. I’m just grandiose with ideas” I struck a grin and waved to the droid to bring me a glass of water.

Ah yes, it was becoming much more clear to both women just what exactly the Lieutenant Commander was talking about. He wanted a true support vessel, a warship purely made to be a carrier and nothing more. At the same time though some of the design issues came to head that concerned both the Princess and the Engineer. Mainly the lack of defenses. Even the Venator had seriously lacked adequate weaponry compared to other destroyer types of its day and the ensuing Imperial Era after it. It could even be seen now as Caius brought the design to the forefront and placed it on the holoprojector. Both Crinan girls quickly began to quietly speak to one another, evaluating the work that was being proposed and what would need to be done while at the same time they tried to listen still to the discussion now being brought up with droid or drone designs to be the primary compliment of fighter support for this new Imperial Carrier.

After some time of consideration they would quietly nod to each other as Alva would be the one to begin the explanation befitting her station as the shipyards owner as well as holding a higher class status. "There are some problems with the idea over all. I don't think we can get that many starfighters into a ship, that would be near three hundred and it would be a tight fit. We would end up sacrificing space and hull integrity for expanded hangers, which is dangerous. It would take a lot of work to get that done, but if that is what you truly wish then we can try and do our best with it. As for the size of the ship itself, Amelia has recommended that we keep the design between 1200 or 1400 meters at most, anything bigger would be contradictory to your idea. Next we also think it should have as many defenses as, if not more than, the Venator design itself. The Venator would be severely undergunned in this day and age and even back then somewhat was. I think we can make some twists on that to improve, but at the same time I also think at most we'll only achieve one hundred and eighty fighters in the hanger or two hundred and forty if we push it. As for the drone or droid fighters. . . . . .we've already begun working on such designs. We believe our options are to either create a whole new design on our own, purchase already developed ones from Santhe to fit the TIE series, or reconvert the Crinan Interceptor into a drone/droid unit. It already looks like one so maybe that's best. . . .It wouldn't be too hard to do any of them, and it will cost credits however we do it, it depends on what you believe will earn us the best quality or net us the most efficient to produce design. What do you think?"

I smiled “There is a reason why I’m not often directly involved in the actually blueprinting of these vessels, otherwise I’m certain I would have drove several Chief Engineers mad with attempting to cope with my ridiculous ideas. No I merely aim high with my proposals and work my way down from there. This vessel is not intended to be a line vessel. Like I said some areas would have to be sacrificed for the primary purpose. For instance the Imperial Star Destroyer III is intended to be a ship of the line able to aptly contending other vessels in the slug match of battery fire.” I turned off the images of the older vessels. “Those were just examples, this vessel should certainly not be boasting the same weaponry as the Venator. Ideally this vessel should be far behind the line of battle where it can launch and receive its fighter complement in safety. There were a host of problems with the venator class with its dorsal hangar bay being exposed to hostile fire in the midst of battle. Again though the idea is to provide an overwhelming amount of fighter and bomber support to the line vessels such the ISD III. This ship is going to have to rely on heavily on escorts to protect it.

I mulled the size of the vessel. “Miss Alberio, Princess, what about the overall shape of the vessel? Length is one thing but the height and width are also important. In order to house this many fighters and bombers it would need to have vaulted hangars. I of course would love for the ship to be based off this old Vindicator’s shape but of course this carrier will be twice the size of that ship. If the venator was able to secure 192 starfighters on board along with space for drop ships and carry a complement of 2000 soldiers and their equipment I’m certain we can easily achieve something similar in capability. If we simply cut out the idea of carrying soldiers and their equipment along with the drop ships necessary for those troops then we can stay true to the idea of a dedicated fleet carrier.” I paused to take a sip of tea and leaned back in the chair to cross my legs.

In all honesty this vessel’s weaponry should only be thought of as defensive in design. The ISD III will be our mailed fist to smash hostile fleet formations allowing our fighters and bombers to pick apart the enemy ships. The picket ships that your engineers and scientists have designed would aid in preventing the enemy star fighters from actually achieving any thing short of void parity.
I pondered for a moment on what we could do to make the mark of an extreme number of star fighters and bombers. Especially if they are droids or drones there would be some level of compact design. Perhaps folding wings? “Consider this, with a droid Star fighter or drone fighter we are saving space already by removing the need for a pilot on board. Thus the systems such as life support and other amenities required to accommodate are no longer needed to be incorporated. The programming requirements for a droid only require the size of a simple computer on board and droid is the same just with a slaved remote control on board.

The first answer to Caius' questions would come rather immediately from a slightly annoyed Chief Engineer. "It would maintain the same shape as the rest of the Imperial designs but likely keep proportion. Three hundred twenty meters to four hundred twenty meters tall, five hundred eighty meters wide to six hundred and sixty meters wide." Now it wasn't that she had a temper or was impatient, but when it came down to matters like this, Amelia Alberio had a little bit of a peeve when it came to someone assuming she hadn't thought of everything just because she hadn't said everything. She had given the Lieutenant Commander an estimate on the vessel's length so he ought to have known she would have already had the remaining dimensions in mind. Although her response was perhaps a little strong regardless.

Meanwhile Alva sat quietly as she listened in on her fellow officer's end of the discussion. He made plenty of good sense when speaking about the older Venator design, although when it came down to that Crina's second princess had to admit she admired its elegance more than the Imperial SD classes. Something about having slight shape differences and color seemed appealing. There were some very good points being made, but at the same time at the end of it all Alva found herself disagreeing with the concept on. . . well concept. She would sit back for only a moment before folding her hands on the table and then speaking her turn. "I actually find myself in agreement on the idea regarding most of what you have had to say. What I think would be best, however, is it we do not go about this in the manner we are. The idea is good, the concept is sensible and we really could use a superior carrier craft. However, I find myself more and more disagreeing with the entire thing in practice. The drones and accommodating for such is hardly an issue at all. Upon reflection we can likely convert the Crinan Interceptor craft into a decent droid controlled vehicle. The issue I have though, is that we are pouring our resources into too much. Rather than delegating our work into three different projects, the Arbitrator, the ISD III, and this Enhanced Carrier, I think we should consolidate our efforts. I believe it would be best if we focused this effort and the resources along with it into the work ongoing for the ISD III, and that we might even should just incorporate the work of the Arbitrator into it as well, though perhaps the Admiral would disagree. I just believe though if we put all our effort into the ISD II though, that we could then enhance it so that it surpasses its role. We could enlarge the hanger and increase its armor and armaments if we put enough work and resources into each craft that we save from developing and producing the carriers. And if we carried over the work on the technology of the Proton Beam Cannon to it as well then we also save the time and resources of constructing a different Arbitrator class too. How would you feel about this proposal and delivering it to the Admiral?"

I shuffled a few papers and a datapad around. I came across one of the reconnaissance reports from Valc VII. Detailed on the report was a description of what amounted to junkyard worth of debris. As Miss Albrio and princess Calvarona made some excellent points. This report was extremely relevant to the design of the ISD III. A star ship graveyard that had formed over these many centuries. Valc VII having once been a prominent fortress world had seen its fair share of war. During the era of the Galactic Empire through till the collapse of the first Fel Empire the world had served as an important military center where a large reserve fleet was stationed. It had once boosted a host of space stations where the entire Perrinn sector fleet once called home. Now a majority of those stations and ships filled the void around Valc’s moons as debris clouds. An extremely hazardous zone of space that a massive operation was underway to begin clearing and recycling metal and other goods had begun. Among the wreckage of ships there were numerous capital ship keels. I took a long hard look at the list of potential.

I whistled over to the astromech who trundled over. I exchanged another glass of water for the datapad. I waved for R5 to give the data pad over to the two women. It beep booped and rolled over to Miss Albrio. “My apologies Chief, like I said I sometimes I have ideas that can get carried away. Perhaps you are right Princess our focus should perhaps remain on the ISD III. I think I have another grandiose but realistic plan that would benefit your shipwrights immensely. First I will say for now I’ll put this carrier idea back to the drawing board before it goes any further. If you both take a look at the datapad R5 has there on his service tray you will find that there is essentially a graveyard of ships. Among the wreckage is an answer to my own needs that until now I would have overlooked completely. You are right Princess our resources are immensely precious and need to be kept strictly to a pragmatic approach. Thus you will notice that there are three secutor class keels in various states of condition. I believe that if break down one or two of them we can get ourselves a fully functioning fleet carrier or two. There is also nearly two dozen wrecked and broken Imperator class keels also in numerous states of condition. Imperial Star Destroyer One and Two designs. Like the secutors we could most likely get maybe eight or nine fully functioning ships by consolidating the remaining keels. Most especially importantly there is a single Allegiance class star destroyer among the wreckage in relatively decent shape but will require extensive retrofit I’m sure. Here is what I propose then.” I took a long smooth gulp from my tea mug. “If I recall from our last meeting with the Admiral over the Arbitrator design concept we want to produce it to be essentially a line breaker vessel. Perhaps we might want to consider these options for this Allegiance keel to be the vessel we retrofit to fit the design. We should bear in mind to not put all our eggs into one basket. My own over thinking getting the best of me on the need for carrier when we already have a potential fleet carrier available to us. I feel that we should stick to allowing the Imperator class ships to remain in the role as they are. A battlecruiser such as the allegiance has the armor needed to protect the proton beam cannon along with a host of weaponry to provide a withering amount of firepower to anchor a battle line against a hostile force. If we shift this idea of the ship having a large fighter complement to the simply getting those Secutor class carriers online to fulfill that role in conjunction with the Crinan analog carriers providing that additional support so the Allegiance can focus entirely on being a mainline warship rather than having to many roles that can be fulfilled by other ships.” I also leaned back while waving my hand in the air emphatically.

To accomplish this we will need a new shipyard. Perhaps Princess with our aide we could assist in building a new shipyard on Rodica to accomadate the production of capital ships. This way we diversify the capacity of Crina Royal Industries. We could propose to the Admiral to deploy a storm trooper legion or two along with army units to provide the manpower in helping construct this facility under the guidance of you Chief Albrio. Along with providing an economic stimulus for your world by undertaking such a new project would help spur growth on Rodica. What we can do is transfer these old vessels and materials and rebuild them on Rodica. It will obviously take time but I feel certain that once this project has passed its testing and proving stages with us having produced a ship, featuring this Arbitrator weapons system is what I’ll just refer to it as from this point on, then we can look into producing new designs from the keel up. What are your thoughts on this both of you?” I took a sip of tea and relaxed for a moment.

The Supreme Commander of the combined Imperial forces made his appearance fairly late. He didn't exactly want to show up like this and his military stature begged him to arrive exactly on time, but he so coveted the luxury of hanging back just an hour or so in preparation of his other little projects. He was part of the Ascendancy y'know. Be that as it may, the Grand Admiral strode into the room with absolute silence. Davin needed no regal fanfare, banners, or pairs of doves to mark his arrival. Humility was a virtue.

Already, both the Crinian Princess and an old friend by the name Flavian were discussing the pros and cons to their new starship designs. Davin would chime in when he felt they were on to something, but for now, he opted to hold his peace and learn their initial plans.

Something appeared to come up, and Alva payed close attention to the Lieutenant Commander as he seemed to be shown some information that took his own focus away from the discussion at hand momentarily. Whatever it was hopefully had something relevant to do with the discussion at hand for the construction of new warships, otherwise she was going to be rather annoyed. Especially when the door to the meeting room opened and the new Grand Admiral stepped in, another member of the Chiss race and someone who had done a lot recently in the Remnant's political domain. Crina's second princess found herself somewhat distracted now wondering why the Admiral was here so suddenly. Or had he been invited and came late. . . .or had someone given him the wrong time?

Regardless he was here now and Alva could only imagine what he would want to contribute or have the discussion work towards accomplishing. He was probably one of the people who knew best what the navy needed. However, it appeared for the time being he was content to remain silent while the rest of them continued debating the direction they should focus their resources. Which it seemed Caius Flavian had more to add to as he began sharing information about a ship graveyard hanging above Valc VII that, if properly mined, could provide the Remnant with some older style warships if they could refurbish them to full combat readiness once more. This was something Alva found herself much more agreeable to since it saved resources for the other major projects and would be a separate endeavor itself. Still, she wished to see about making the ISD III class a more effective and still primary warship.

Both Crinan women could agree excitedly to the idea of developing a second Crinan shipyard on Rodica, that was more than pleasing to each of them. When asked how they felt, they both nodded to each other quickly before responding. "Well first. . . .its Alberio. And second, that sounds wonderful. Crina has been considering establishing more resources on Rodica since it has now fallen under our control and has become accessible since the end of the civil war. We would ask if we could establish the shipyards to the same schematics of those at Andreea, planetside and with the same overall shape. To accommodate for our usual construction process."

"And I would ask if it would still be possible if we focused our efforts when it came to the new projects on the ISD III. With the Grand Admiral's permission to transfer the work on the project of the Arbitrator over to it along with the funding for the new carrier added over to it, minus whatever funds are needed for the development of the salvage operations at Valc."

Ikki moved in and stood next to her princess, taking the time needed to establish herself and letting her small stature, her status and station as a maid within the Crina household for the royal family obscure bodyguard and protector of the princess. She had her carbonite tipped gloves as she stood there with a small smile on her face listening before clasping her hands together. She looked up with dark honey colored eyes tinged with flecks of blue force light taking in potential threats.

((lol whoops that was a typo for Alberio.. XP))

Ah Admiral Vad'avi'nuruodo, Sir welcome to our little meeting” I briefly got up and stood at attention for a moment before going back to an at ease stance and then retaking my seat. “I was just discussing certain measures with Captain Calvarona here on the eventual production of a new iteration of the tried and true Imperator model. We were also discussing possible upgrades to existing carrier models or even the idea of an entire new model. For now though our efforts in the Valc System has unveiled what amounts to a grave yard of old ISD I and IIs along with a few battle cruisers of the Allegiance and Secutor class around the fifth planet of the system.” I paused for a moment to pluck my mug of tea and turned my attention to Chief Alberio, “My apologies Chief Alberio, that was perhaps just a feint of the mind, I haven’t slept much lately. Much stress being so quite involved in a multitude of operations and meetings names tend to become a blur…”

My voice trailed off as I took a sip of caff.

Now the Imperator III Star Destroyer series, utilizing Regent Industry’s specialization in droid manufacturing and coordinating with the Crinan Royal Industries innovative abilities I believe we could also cut down operating costs that so pluged the ISD I and II series. By automating a majority of the systems and using droids to staff ancillary, non-essentially and most essential systems while overseen by sentient naval specialist technician we can stream line this new vessel to be the primary model with which fight with. The ISD I and IIs required a minimum crew of 5000, while an optimal crew of 30,000 in order to fully man all stations. The upkeep costs and logistics of maintaining such vessels far exceed the initial cost of production. By slaving weapon systems to the fire control stations on board the command bridge and with a backup fire control in a secondary command bridge located deeper inside the vessel we would be able to reduce the need for gun crews to man all the turbo lasers. The Lucre-hulk battle ships I mentioned earlier in our discussion were 3000 meter in length and diameter with only a sentient crew of 150. Now there are of course drawbacks to full automation as I’m certain if we look at the history of that vessel I’m sure we could find. My suggestion would be a two thirds cut in crew of the old ISD series with this method. Which I might add the saving we get from this along with reduction in spaces on board needed to accommodate the old large crew amount we could put that credit so to speak earned toward investing in strengthening the keel, the support beams, and adding additional layers of armor. We can make this vessel a cross breed between the old Tector class and the Imperator series in terms of fire power and operational capabilities. Allowing us to not only project power, but superior power granting us better command and control in the battle space.

I paused to let that sink in for a moment and see what my colleagues thought.

It seemed great, as both Alva and Amelia were quick to look between each other and find the proposal to be both appropriate and likely quite effective. Building a second shipyard to supplement their production and utilizing the ships and materials they could scrounge from the Valc VII to cut down on the cost as well would probably enable a very swift and steady production of the new ISD III class, plus with diverted funding from the carrier project for certain they could very well make the ISD III a better design as a whole over its predecessors as a ship of the line. It was clear to anyone that Crina Royal Industries Chief Engineer's eyes were filled with dreams of grandiose, of a whole slew of massive starships rising up from their shipyards to fill such an amazing fleet.

The second princess's eyes on the other hand imagined what sort of monsters they could make out of these ships, and her smile supported that look. The whole idea of using Regent industries to supply droid crewing was a bit out of the ballpark for either of the Crinan women since droids were used much on Crina at all, and their company had never really put much effort towards trying to develop any such designs in that category. Nonetheless they would support the decision if it seemed to hold as much merit as it sounded as Caius spoke about it. The Lieutenant Commander was certainly an intelligent and capable man, so it hardly seemed as if he would say anything less than useful. "This all sounds very good to us. Though the production of droids to support the crew would be more expensive up front, though we do save money through the use of the graveyard for materials to either salvage or break down to make new plates from. Is there anything else we likely need to expand upon for this? If not I say we ask the Admiral and the Emperor for their graces and begin at once."
