Faction Return to the Tangle

THE TANGLE

They had been using Tangle as an obstacle course for some time. On their last outing a container of rogue battledroids had sprung open and added some danger to the run.

A group from the New Jedi Order was back. That container had not been the only one. Someone had dumped several of them through the scrapyard and they were dangerous.

This time, armed with lightsabers and any other tools they wanted to bring, they were going to put an end to the danger.

Makko followed the group down into the shadow of a large freighter that was being disassembled. Normally such things would be taken to another world to be scrapped. This one must have needed to be brought down in an emergency.

It was dark here. Under the freighter and piles of scrap. Makko didn't feel particularly afraid. He finally had a lightsaber of his own and a personal shield.

More than that, after the events of Ukatis, he needed to blow off some steam and wasn't feeling particularly concerned for his own safety.

If Cale had ever had a plan for 'after', he was sure it wouldn't have involved this. Even with the best of treatment, pain from the injuries Exegol had given him still lingered. A burst of minuscule agony came with every step on the foot that had been impaled, and his nose still had a smaller bandage over it. It was going to heal crooked, if only a little, but he was almost thankful for that injury now, it made smelling the scrapyard a tad more difficult.

He hadn't read the report on what had happened the last time the roving pack of younger Jedi had come here, though he probably should've, and thus he didn't know what to expect. In truth his mind wasn’t on the mission anyway.

He thought of Aleksandr Stirsea, and again felt the flicker of frustration that he'd 'let' him go off chasing a ghost. His boy should've been here, with the other Jedi of his own age, but then Cale reminded himself the once-street rat was a boy no more, and felt a twinge of guilt. He knew it must've been wrong for him to be frustrated with the absence of Aleks and Ronan, unbecoming of a Jedi Master to long for more control, but he felt it all the same. The Jedi took a long drag from his stimstick, puffing out a cloud of gray smoke and followed the group from a comfortable distance.

Cale still didn't know what had possessed him to agree to tag along on this endeavor. None of the group needed supervision, much less protection, and he certainly wasn't about to try and start barking pointless orders. They wouldn't have listened anyway, nor would he expect them to. He was a stranger to most of them, and had every chance of remaining that way.

Over broken engines and through the maze like corpses of long-destroyed hulls, Cale tried to keep his mind still and his body moving. Maybe he did know why he was here, why all of them were here so soon in the aftermath. War had been constant for most of their entire lives, and even Cale had only known scarcely a year of peacetime, it felt wrong to just sit still. If he did nothing, what made him any different from the scrap all around them? What was a warrior without a war?

Peacekeeper, he reminded himself, drawing in the ignited stimulant. You're a peackeeper, he blew acrid smoke out into the air, his eyes following it skyward. Cale wondered if it'd stick this time, or if it'd only be a matter of time before he vanished back out into the stars.

In the shadows of the derelict freighter, the tangle training ground looked very intimidating, as if death could be awaiting round every corner. Sayuri looked at Makko Vyres Makko Vyres "I hear you guys had it pretty rough last time your trained here, did they find out who dumped the droids?". It wasn't the Jedi's role to be chasing after waste law violators, but the chance for some real time combat training was too much for the padawans to pass up. Her wheels were retracted up her legs so she could walk and as they did she checked her gear, activating and deactivating her shield a couple of times, just to be thorough.

Yuri had less real world experience than some of the other padawans, but had been in the temple since she was a tiny child and lightsaber combat had been a passion for years, her flair for combat and particularly the way of the stone form would serve the padawan pack well. Sliding down a small escarpment of debris and other scrapped components she pressed on her helmet and her visor came down, Immediately illuminating the environment with her dreamsight sensors and providing her with a tactical readout, it was still set up from her mission on Exegol. She waved her hand in the air to clear her HUD of superfluous information effort turning back to Makko and Cale Gunderson Cale Gunderson . "So whats the plan? Do we know where they are all hiding or are we just going to make some noise so they come looking for us?"

"I hear you guys had it pretty rough last time your trained here, did they find out who dumped the droids?"

"They took us by surprise," Makko said.

There was a cold focus in his gaze. He didn't feel fear and a voice told him that he should have done. It wasn't jedi training that kept him focused. Makko needed something to drive him forwards, because the foundations of the rest of his life had just fallen apart.

"No idea where they came from but they looked old. Like, before the gulag plague old."

Records from those dark centuries were sporadic. The hyperlanes had been closed. Wars had been fought for star systems that had been entirely forgotten.

The other padawan had a full suit of armour. He just had a combat vest under his robe and the shield generator on his left wrist. Was he supposed to have more armour?

"Finding a spot to hold and drawing them out sounds good," Makko said.

He didn't know if it was sensible, but he wanted the violence to start.
