Awful news to today and breaking around the globe for huge James Bond fans like myself and film fans in general, that actor Richard Kiel has died in hospital aged 74 due to as yet undisclosed reasons. He was of course famous as his role as Jaws, the towering villain in the 007 movies 'The Spy Who Loved Me' and 'Moonraker', as well as roles in 'The Twilight Zone', 'The Cannonball Run 2' and 'Happy Gilmore'.
You can't get more iconic a henchman than Jaws, and his legend will live on forever thanks to this memorable role. Imposing, terrifying, yet somehow warm and loveable! I'm so proud he made such an impact on the Bond universe and has such a following with fans, and even non-fans, thanks to the imagery he created by saying little but coming across as mighty as only Kiel could.
It won't be the same watching his films again now, but his struggle against Roger Moore's Bond will be all the more enjoyable now as we continue to enjoy and savour his role forever.
Rest in peace Richard - and thank you for being part of the Bond universe and setting the standard for a real memorable movie villain.
Nobody did it better. x
