SPECIAL FEATURES
- Enhanced by Sith Alchemy, the ring is sturdier than your average wood. It is also heavier than a non-alchemical counterpart would have been.
- The ring's ability can best be described as a mix of Force Drain and Force Healing. It seeks to heal the wearer of any injury. It amplifies the natural regeneration process to heal wounds and mend bones. The ringbearer would not, for example, be able to regrow limbs, but could instead use the ring to close off the wound and stop the bleeding. The higher the severity of the injury the longer it would take to heal.
- The ring cannot heal on its own, it requires payment. In order to heal the ringbearer, it needs to drain the life force of another. The process is not without pain, and the ring has the potential to force the target to feel the pain of the wound it's being made heal it. After the connection between ringbearer and victim is broken, the latter will no longer feel any pain related to the injury, though may experience great weariness after having their life force drained.
- The ring needs to be activated by the wearer, and is a targeted ability. In other words it doesn't work passively nor does it have an area of effect. If the ringbearer doesn't have any wounds to heal, it can be used to reinvigorate and stave off fatigue.
STRENGTHS
- Heal Me - The primary purpose of this ring is to heal its user from injuries, wounds, cuts and the like. Powered by Sith Alchemy it functions very similar to Force Drain, where it seeks to drain a victim of its life energy and funnel it back, specifically aimed at whatever ails the ringbearer.
- Pain Link - Not only is the ring asking the victim to heal its owner, it's bold enough to demand them share in the pain. The potential for pain is linked to the severity of a wound, and won't make a papercut feel like a lost limb. But it might make any opponent think twice if they're made to get as well as they give!
- Destructible - The ring is made of wood, and although reinforced by Sith Alchemy it is hardly indestructible. Concentrated Light Side energies focused in on the ring can be used to destroy it completely. Also it would do poorly in an oven.
- Focused Fire - The ring has to purposefully be activated and aimed at a victim. It won't be in the background, doing all the heavy lifting for her. As such, in order to use the ring's powers she can't really be pulling off any other moves (unless they're menial tasks one can easily multitask with).
- Force Nullification - When exposed to a Ysalamir field, close enough to Void stone, or in an area where the Force is otherwise inaccessible, this talisman will have no effect as it requires the Force to function.
DESCRIPTION
The Ring of Life is a product of Sith Alchemy. It was made by Ameli Trahir, and it comes as a result of her deepening her studies into the arts of Sith Alchemy and Sith Sorcery. It was created on Nar Shaddaa, in her safehouse and current primary residence. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life, one of mingling with Hutts and criminals to further establish her own powerbase.
This is the third ring she has made, and is the first time working with wood as primary material. She found the wood easier to work with, and this is by far the most aesthetically pleasing of her rings. Its surface is even both inside and outside, and is smooth to the touch. In its dormant state it has a dark brown colour, as befits the walnut wood material. Additionally it maintains a shiny, almost glossy look. When activated, however, and the wearer uses it to draw upon the Force, the ring seemingly comes alive. It lights up with a burst of dancing colours, in various shades of green and blue, mimicking a display very similar to the phenomenon known as aurora borealis.
The ring comes with a special ability, and it is from this that it got its name. The effects of the ring acts similarly to Force Healing and Force Drain. Its primary purpose is to heal the user, although to facilitate this it requires to drain the life force of another living being. The ring functions almost like a conduit to guide and direct the Force to purposes suiting the ringbearer's design, pulling from a victim and feeding to the ring's owner. Its effects are not immediate, and the time required depends on the severity of the wound. The ring can be drawn upon even if the wearer is not wounded, and will instead just rejuvenate the user at the expense of the victim's stamina. The two, victim and offender, are in this interaction linked. The greater the wound or injury, the greater potential for pain is there for the victim.
Ameli is not a healer, nor is the Dark Side well suited to mend broken things. There is always a price weighed against the gain, and oftentimes the exchange is not on an equal basis. In this case, Ameli sought by tapping into her knowledge of Sith Alchemy to ensure that the sacrifice was not hers. The process is not meant to be comfortable or smooth, and in some cases it's not even permanent. It is not as simple as putting the ring on and all your woes vanish. It requires an active focus, and naturally also a target one is able to draw from. Even with one such target in sight, one can always be resisted. Distractions of a certain magnitude will be sufficient in keeping the ringbearer from calling upon the ring to do its deeds.
In short, this ring was intended by Ameli as a way to use Sith Alchemy to offer something she was not able to do herself by drawing upon the Dark Side of the Force alone. Ideally it would keep her from meeting an untimely end, and keep her wounds at bay long enough for her to get out of a heated situation. In most combat situations she might not have the time to fully heal, but rather a more common use might be for example to keep from bleeding out, and close up a wound. Can't live a life of luxury and swim in credits if you're dead.
