DESCRIPTION
In this day and age, Sith are fond of infiltrating institutions to get what they want. One could say that it was a trend started by Darth Bane and Zannah. Ever since the dawn of the Banite line, Sith have infiltrated corporate boardrooms, chancelleries and Jedi temples. Or sometimes just the bedrooms of gullible Padawans to sate carnal urges, but this one digresses.
Regardless, all Sith who utilise stealth and subterfuge instead of brute force to acquire power face the problem that they must conceal their true nature. Alas, there are many individuals in the Galaxy who do not understand that they would be better off under Sith rule. Other Force-users, such as Jedi, are especially problematic in that regard.
There are various techniques the Sith infiltrator can utilise: Force Clouding, Quey'tek, Mask and so on. Darth Zannah famously used Sith magic to manifest a false light side aura when she infiltrated the Jedi Temple's archives, fooling even Jedi Masters. Centuries later, Palpatine had mastered the power of concealment to such an extent that he could sit in the same room as the Jedi Council, without any of them suspecting his true self until it was too late.
The ironically named Ring of Purity is a tool designed to aid in infiltration activities. Sumiko Tanaka created the ring shortly after assuming direct control over the Covenant of Uriel. While most of the Covenanters are non-Force-users, some are Forceful beings and she intends to train them and expand their ranks while keeping them in the dark of her true nature. Moreover, once the cult grows, it cannot be ruled out that she might come into contact with Jedi. Thus she laboured in her alchemical workshop to forge an item that would help her pass as the benevolent prophetess she pretends to be. In addition, to her personal ring, she also forged a few others. One would go to her Apprentice @Illyria. The rest could be sold to select customers on the private market. Wider production is neither practical nor desirable from a professional standpoint. As far as the believers of the Covenant know, the ring is a relic blessed by Uriel's holy magic and helps 'Sister Sakura' commune with the Lord of Light.
Imbued with a mentalist's power, the ring aids the wearer by covering them in a light side aura, making it appear as if a darksider is really a servant of the Light. In the process, the wearer's true alignment is obfuscated. One could call it a cloak of light. Thus the wearer does not need to spend Force energy on casting and maintaining the spell themselves, though they must wear the ring for the deception to work. It is important to note that the ring cannot eliminate the wearer's dark side aura. It merely conceals it. While the aura of blazing, pure light is very potent and intense, if the veil is lifted, one can perceive the wearer's true nature.
Like all Force imbued items, it loses its power in a ysalamiri field. While conventional weapons or cannot destroy the ring it is vulnerable to powerful Force Light Blasts from an actual Lightsider. A lightsabre might not be able to destroy the ring, but it can cut off the finger wearing it and thus lift the veil. Furthermore, using blatantly darkside powers while wearing the item is ill-advised. One cannot toss Bolts of Hatred around or Force Drain someone and expect the mask of benevolence to be maintained. Unless one is dealing with an extremely unorthodox 'lightside' group...but in that case one probably would not need the ring in the first place. In the end, the most effective camouflage is simply to play the part and avoid being detected committing acts that would make others question the masquerade. It is also probably a bad idea to wear it while in the presence of darksiders who are not in on the ruse...since they might get violent upon spotting a 'lightsider'.
