Description:
The Ring of Requirement, as those who have cataloged it's history call it is a Unique Sith Artifact forged centuries ago by Darth Moridin.

The ring is not unique, at least not visually. It appears as any other band of low quality, made up of simple silver carved with small leaflets and tiny design that was set with a singular onyx stone. The Ring is not anything to swear by, and in fact to most it appears that a poor man had created the thing in order to appear rich. It's metal has long since lost it's luster, the black gem at it's center it's sheen, and the ring looks worn and aged. Despite this there is an odd beauty to the Ring of Requirement, a lulling sense of...need that comes with it. Visually it is not appealing, but a piece of the ring speaks to the soul, offering comfort to those within need.

It is this comfort that the ring uses to enthrall people.

Though it's not entirely sure how the ring does it, nor how it was created, the Ring of Requirement was created to fulfill the needs of it's owner through a spell of the Sith. These needs could come big or small, but whatever they were the ring would do it's best to fulfill them.

This function of the ring, the ability to provide whatever the wearer desire, is naught but an influence of base chance. The ring uses it's influence within the force to twist events and change the outcome of probability into the form of a users will. The ring does not to this as a conscious action of it's owner, but instead through it's own influence. However, the bigger the ask, the more difficult it becomes for the ring to do what the owner requires, nor can one control exactly how the ring fulfills the requirement asked of it. For instance, one might ask to be rich, and in fulfillment of that requirement the Ring twists the ethos of chance to allow a simple mistaken credit transfer to occur into the users account.

The ring does not directly create the requirements themselves, but instead allows the user the opportunity to seize their own requirement. In the above example the user would have to withdraw the credits from his account, cashing out before the mistake could be fixed. This is the same for every time the ring grants a request, it create an opportunity for the user rather than granting whatever the user wishes upon immediately. This is for a simple reason, so that the Ring may take it's price.

This price, of course, is the reason that the ring works at all, or rather, why it was created. Moridin, the man who first forged the ring was a Sith, a man whom demanded power above all. The Ring was his way of seizing this power, the creation of an object that through the force would twist chance to fall his way. The concept of course came with darker tides, the ring created through the darkside of the force functions through sacrifice, not necessarily of oneself, but instead those who they care about the most.

Through the same means that the ring gives, it takes.

The man who required riches for instance might need money to save his family, asking for wealth in order to move his young daughter and wife from the slums. Taking that money however might cost the man his wife, his daughter, or both depending on the amount of riches that he took. This is how the Ring operates. It takes, what it gives, always in equal proportion, always in the same cruel manner. It targets those the user cares about, and if the user cares about himself? It will target them.

For this reason, and for the realization that fell upon him after it's first use Moridin discarded the ring.

The object was dangerous, too dangerous for even he to use. Though the Sith Lord cared naught for many, he realized that eventually the Ring would cause him to sacrifice pieces of himself, that which he valued the most, his wit, his strength, and his power.

After Moridin's realization, his need to seed chaos throughout the galaxy saw him releasing the ring. On a trip to the bazaar on Byss Moridin placed the ring in the hands of a jewelry peddler, offering him a smile and turning down payment for the small silver band. The ring then began to work it's magic, fulfilling the greatest desires of those who utilized it, calling to those in need and doing exactly what they wished for. Decades passed, the year fumbling around Byss until it eventually made it's way off world, traveling through the galaxy and continuing it's cycle.

Always the ring would be found, always it would be used, and always it would take it's toll.

Can't argue that it's not balanced.

This looks like a story piece more than anything else, so I'm going to go ahead and stamp it Pending Approval. Beware abuse, however. If it gets reported, I'll be happy to round up some hobbits for a trip to Mordor.
