Dominion Rise of the Eternal Fleet - Part 3: Conquest of Lorta (Eternal Empire Dominion of Lorta)

Eternal Fleet Command

WAR!
The galaxy has been in a state of war for the better part of the last decade, in the form of the Second Great Hyperspace War. While the Eternal Empire has involved itself within the titanic conflict alongside other notable powers, such as the Ashlan Crusade and the New Imperial Order; another conflict is rising in intensity to the galactic south - namely the Outer Rim Crusade. The Conquest of D’rinba IV was just the start of the Empire’s concerted effort to aggressively expand into former CIS space. Although the planet fell with relative ease, a series of events would soon confirm that the worlds to follow would not be so easily tamed - with Lorta being the theater to make this fact impossible to deny.

The Lortan people have long been regarded as a martial culture, with a history of indiscriminate ferocity dating back to the age of the Galactic Empire during the Reslian Purge. In the wake of the Confederacy of Independent System’s collapse, the people of Lorta have not wasted any time in attempting to fill the vacuum left behind; asserting themselves in a brutal bid for regional dominance. Throwing off the shackles imposed upon them by their former CIS overlords, the radical theocratic government has reemerged - espousing many of the same teachings and ideals which sent their people into a frenzy many centuries prior. Imbued with fanatical religious fervor, and armed with a mixture of reconstituted CIS technology and local armaments, the Lortans have quickly killed or captured those who might oppose them upon their homeworld, and have begun to spread to neighboring systems in a rampage reminiscent of their earlier atrocities.

Coincidentally, their attempt at plunging the region into a period of bloodlust has been cut short by the advance of the Eternal Fleet. Battlegroup Stygian; under the command of Rear Admiral Aximand Sicarus, has made first contact as the vanguard of the Eternal Fleet against the renegade armada of the Lortan Theocracy, with a heated fleet-wide battle developing at the extremities of the Lortan system.

Meanwhile, in a surprising turn of events, agents of the Eclipse Rebellion have heard rumors that a former CIS military commander has survived the initial purges of the religious fanatics on Lorta itself. Further still, it is said that he is held up within a series of military outposts on the fringe of the planet. If help does not arrive, either with the intention of reinforcing him or helping in an evacuation - the commander will die alongside his men, and his supplies will likely be seized by the advancing radicals. Plus, the prospect of what such a figure could offer to the movement is too promising to ignore.

While both the military and more rebellious figures engage in their own petty pursuits, Hi'los Krai has deployed in advance of the fleet via clandestine insertion alongside an elite team of fellow Wardens and Blackwatch Death Troopers. Allured by the sheer devotion inspired amongst the populace with respect to their deity - a cryptic ‘Man-Hutt’ who is prophesied to sweep all evil from the galaxy; the Lord Commander and his team have received orders to investigate what appears to be a very strong force nexus contained within a temple, built upon what the Lortans consider to be holy land. It is believed their mission will draw them ever closer at understanding the esoteric nature of how other cultures manifest and harness the force, to the overall pursuit of their mysterious and far-reaching goal...

Objective 1: VANGUARD

Battlegroup Stygian has been deployed at the forefront of the Eternal Fleet’s inexorable advance, and has met startling resistance in the form of what could only be described as an armada. Comprised of CIS and repurposed open market vessels, whatever their crews lack in experience they make up for in a fanatical fighting spirit. For the first time in this campaign, the Eternal Fleet’s resolve and strength will be tested by a worthy foe as both forces clash in the dead of space.

Objective 2: A HIGHER PURPOSE

Felix Arrendo is a Cathar-born Commander, formerly in the service of the CIS garrison stationed upon Lorta. As everything spiraled out of control, he took command of what resources and manpower he could and made a series of outposts and bases into a respectable bulwark against the rising tide of Lorta’s fanatical population. Within the first few days of the uprising, his forces were able to stand firm regardless of persistent and seemingly endless attacks. As of now, it has become abundantly clear that the situation is completely forgone, whether it is due to the rising numbers of fanatics on the planet, or the encroaching Eternal Fleet.

Yet, there are some adventurous members within the Eclipse Rebellion who would be remiss to see such a charismatic and resourceful leader die a meaningless death. If he could inspire his men to take up a cause doomed to fail, perhaps he could be of value to a cause just gaining momentum within the Empire.

But before any benefit could be derived from such a proposition, he has to get off world first. That’s where you come in, if you choose to accept this assignment in the name of freedom.

Objective 3: THE VALLEY OF DEEP SHADOWS

In an unexpected - and exceedingly risky endeavor, Lord Commander Krai has deployed upon Lorta soil with a team of fellow Wardens and elite operatives to discover the location of a temple built to contain a rumored force nexus, of which the Wardens believe there is some connection between the force and the Lortan faith in their ‘Man-Hutt’ god. Whether it involves harnessing the nexus’ power, or learning how to destroy it; it is the belief of the Wardens that getting to the Nexus first is important enough to deploy before the planet is firmly within Imperial control. Perhaps the secrets they will uncover will assist in the effort to capture the planet - or perhaps even aid in their understanding of the force itself.

Objective 4: Boots on the Ground

While Lord Commander Krai leads his clandestine operation to investigate the reason why the Lortans have reemerged with a near-fanatical religious fervor, STRATCOM has approved the deployment of yet another operation that is far more overt and destructive in nature. Elite Ultranaut units are being deployed in a ‘shock trooper’ capacity via the Eternal Fleet’s “Project Fenris” black ops division so as to be inserted behind enemy lines in considerable numbers.

Their objective is three-fold:

  1. Cause as much damage as possible to the Lortan defensive infrastructure.
  2. Draw as much attention as possible away from Lord Commander Krai’s unit
  3. Establish a defensive position upon the planet so as to hold out until the Empire’s main forces can arrive and offer relief.

Objective 5: BYOO

The chaos of a military takeover provides a prime opportunity for nearly anything to happen, whether it is the establishment of more clandestine criminal enterprises, consolidating influence within more rebellious factions, or in exploring whatever secrets within the force the planet may hold.

Onboard his command ship, The Descent, sitting upon a special command platform designed for him, Tyth'xio's mind was in deep meditation. Little by little he allowed his mind to wander the force as it spread around him. True, it was more difficult to grasp than it once was, but it was still there, and offered up its information if he would simply work on it. He led thirty-five capital ships, and over nine hundred fighters into the coming battle. Information was limited, they only knew it would be a fierce battle. The squirrel opened his eyes and looked out upon the command deck. His platform was designed with a ladder that let him climb up to it, it overlooked the entirety of the bridge.

His crew was calm, they double checked each system, stored away all non-essential items, each man was at his post, and the marines were armed and ready, just in case. He didn't need to give comprehensive orders; each member knew what their job was and did it without any hesitation. His small hands scrolled through the information found on the various screens in front of him. Power readings were good, flight officers reported all pilots and fighters were ready for launch. Weapon systems were pre-charged, their energy held steady. Targeting telemetry would be gathered upon exiting back to real space.

Xio's tail flicked in irritation at the whole scenario, but he kept such opinions to himself. His Empress had willed it, so it would be done. He adjusted the custom officer's uniform and nodded. A quick glance at the chronometer and his hands flicked a ship wide communication. "Two minutes until exit into real space. Be alert, be cautious. Report anything unusual immediately. The Empire is counting on all of you." His voice boomed across the loudspeakers, and a loud cheer came from the crew. He smirked and gave himself the leisure to contemplate for a moment. He wondered what Greer Caimbeulaich Greer Caimbeulaich was doing. While he wasn't honestly sure that romance would blossom there, for all his boisterousness he WAS aware he had the body of a squirrel after all. While he didn't think it mattered, many people did. Still, friendship, comradery, and perhaps companionship? That wasn't outside the realm of possibility. Perhaps he would invite her to Imperial space as there were a good number of festivals and the like happening soon.

As the flotilla exited hyperspace, he quickly reached out with the force and barked orders. "Comms, I want full connection with each ship in the flotilla, as well as all ships that arrived before us. I want it ten minutes ago! Sensors, get a full picture of the battlefield, analyze the data immediately. All fighters, launch! Enter escort pattern delta. I want a loose formation, don't give them the ability to take us out in a few hits. I want our Disruptors to move ahead of the Logistic! Don't let any fighters or missiles through. Tell the Logistic to begin charging main cannon. Let's find a target for our girl."

A credit to the Empire, the crew obeyed without delay. Communications were quickly flowing across the flotilla, each ship aware of the other. Shortly after comms opened up with the rest of the fleet, and information flowed like a river. Scanners and sensors added to the newly acquired data and painted a clear picture of the unfolding battle. The fighters left, and the eight x-wing squadrons of the Descent buzzed the front view port of the bridge in pairs. They waggled their wings before they took up defensive positions. As the fighters performed their ritual of respect, Xio saluted the view port. "Fly well, fight hard, come back alive."

The ships quickly spread out and took up their preassigned positions around the four star destroyers. Fighters and bombers filled the space around the ships, as all their weapons prepared to fire at a moments notice, including the large proton cannon attached to the Logistic. The small squirrel placed his hands behind his back and watched carefully.

Sat in the transport compartment of the Styx along with 20 Hellhounds and their associated equipment, Asaaj was in a world of her own, day dreaming through her shared consciousness with Persephone Ambrosia Persephone Ambrosia . The long term side effects of the ritual she cast to find Perse were only just becoming apparent, and they were enjoyable, the two could connect easily even across the galaxy, and she was wonderful company on the long nights on Qina, but Asaaj was finding her focus was not always completely there, distracted by whatever violence the other vampiress may be engaging in. She had consulted a nightseer who had given her some exercises to allow her to compartmentalise the bond when she needed more control, but that was only days ago and she had yet to master them.

Bringing herself back into the room with a content smile she looked at the other soldiers around her, heavily armed and with peerless training, she had asked to be released from command for this assignment as she was beginning to feel hemmed in by her fleet responsibilities, the centuries old urge for battle was strong and she needed to quench it to be able to focus fully on her job. The recent personal escapade to coruscant had done nothing the sate the monster inside her.

So here she was, on a dropship on a high destruction Objective, fully armed and with a satchel of high explosives, this should be an entertaining mission and really send a message to the enemies of the Eternal Empire. Across from her was a Hellhound, Corin Autem Corin Autem and she smled at her before introducing herself. The hairs prickled on the back of her neck just as was about to speak, she put her finger up in a '1 second' manner, as anti-aircraft fire rattled off the skin of the flying tanks, drowning out any attempt at speech. In the quiet moment after, she was finally able to communicate.

"How far are we from landing? I am anxious to begin, my name is Captain En Kelsani, but call me Asaaj please. I have heard of your unit's reputation." she gave a wicked grin to the woman, she was aware that one of the unit's members was her sister, but had not had the pleasure of working with them before.

The dropship rocked again as its shields strained against the incoming fire. Hopefully they should be down underneath the anti-air coverage soon and ready to land, it would be embarrassing after all these years to be killed by a stray flak burst. As if to answer her question to Corin Autem Corin Autem the lights in the drop ship dimmed ready for hotzone deployment.

Lena sat there with her eyes closed, the ship's rattling as it waded though incoming fire was only in the background, quiet the mind. Meditation wasn't really her thing, but she was on a mission, and she had to succeed. Not that she wouldn't, of course. She had the rest of Hellhound to ensure that didn't happen.

She opened her eyes, giving up on the attempt at meditation. She glanced around the transportation compartment, if only she could be back on the ship. At least there she could clear her head, but she couldn't deny these operations were amusing. Especially when they weren't the only party there. Still, she didn't like leaving her ship to other members of the squad. At the very least they would mess something up, at most, well the AI would most likely launched them out of an airlock. No time for those thoughts though.

She glanced at the stray soldiers who had decided to hitch a ride. She glanced to her left at Corin sitting beside her, then turned her attention to the women sitting in front of her.

"How far are we from landing? I am anxious to begin, my name is Captain En Kelsani, but call me Asaaj please. I have heard of your unit's reputation."

Why a captain was on a op with an elite squad was unknown to her, she was just here to get the job done. It's true enough Lena doesn't like working with outsiders, but she could handle it. It was nice to have a fellow Nightsister though, especially one from the Sister's of Twilight coven. If there was anyone she could trust, it was her.

Her thoughts were cut off though, as the lights dimmed, signalling they were ready for deployment. Lena's hope was nothing would go wrong, of course her hopes rarely became reality. It's just a routine op. She told herself, chuckling in disbelief.

Within weeks after the maneuvers between the Eternal Fleet and the Ashlan Crusade over Odessen, Rear Admiral Aximand Sicarus received orders from STRATCOM to mobilize his task force to spearhead the assault against Lorta. Nearly half of the Admiral’s total strength pushed forth into the Lortan system, with support composed of elements of other surrounding fleets on standby. The Admiral stood in his usual perch within the observation deck of the CIC, watching as the blackness of space filled the viewscreen near the front of the bridge, with the small ball representing Lorta barely visible in the distance. Dozens of Eternal Fleet signatures exited hyperspace alongside him, including the ships of Commodore Tyth'xio. The Commodore/Lord Commander of the Wardens was a... peculiar figure to say the least, in Aximand’s summation. But as long as he followed orders, he would not concern himself overmuch with the... squirrel.

The Lortan fleet was Aximand’s primary concern right now. Reports had filtered in whilst he set about deploying his fleet over the past few weeks, detailing a massive outbreak of their forces within the sector. If they could be believed, much blood had been spilled at their hand, believing themselves to be embarking upon a ‘holy crusade’ in the name of their false god. Thus far, initial scans had revealed the presence of dozens of enemy vessels, ranging in size from small corvette formations, to larger ships of the line (Namely star destroyers, Vindicator battlecruisers, and retrofitted ‘public market’ cruisers). The Lortans began establishing a cordon around their homeworld, whilst still possessing enough forces to push forward and meet the Eternal Fleet with skirmishing maneuvers. Advanced elements of fast attack corvettes began mobilizing near the flanks, attempting to disrupt the Eternal Fleet as it arranged itself in an attack formation.

But this was not a ragtag band of pirates so easily cowed. This was the Eternal Fleet.

Aximand turned to his executive officer and relayed his orders:
”Mobilize our CR-90 corvettes to engage the enemy skirmishing forces. Deploy the first fighter wing to assist, as well as to escort the rest of the fleet as we advance.” Given the plethora of larger ships present within Aximand’s fleet, as well as those of Commodore Tyth'xio, it would take some time for their forces to be ready to move forward. For now, the opening moves of both sides would be to feint and counter-feint; flank and maneuver, harry and fall back. Such was the nature of engaging at range, but Aximand knew well how to play the game. The question was - did the Lortans? What ace did they have up their sleeve? Although Aximand could not quite put his finger on it, something felt amiss; as if something - or someone awaited in the shadows for him to overcommit or play his hand. He would have to be careful, but he also did not intend on holding back his advantage.

Lorta would fall today, one way or the other.

The Styx-class drop-ship rumbled and shook as the Hellhounds approached their objective. Twenty in all, the elite unit had already been briefed on what to expect once they made landfall. Twenty-one, Corin reminded herself, trying her best not to stare at the woman sat just across from her. It seemed command had decided to send someone else along for the ride, one Captain Asaaj En Kelsaani of the so-called ENS Blood Knight. A strange name for an Imperial vessel, Corin had thought upon first hearing, but no stranger than the Crimson Empress or the Tiberius. At least it would be easy to remember.

Like the captain herself.

Allowing her curiosity to get the better of her, Corin glanced towards Asaaj. The ink decorating the woman's pale skin, despite being against regs, reminded the Major of someone she was close to. In the literal sense, mostly. Lena Dracov Lena Dracov must have sensed her thoughts. Catching the Hellhound looking at her, Corin dipped her head in mute acknowledgement. Though she knew little about her battle-sister, she knew the woman to be a capable fighter. Brave, if a bit withdrawn, Corin trusted Lena with her life. She trusted all her troopers, if she was being earnest, but that wasn't the point.

"How far are we from landing? I am anxious to begin, my name is Captain En Kelsani, but call me Asaaj please. I have heard of your unit's reputation.

"Three minutes, Captain, give or take a few seconds." Corin replied, letting her thoughts flutter away. The drop-ship shook as the enemy flak worsened. Cor extended her hand. "Major Corin Autem, First Company Hellhounds." She smiled across at the woman, unwilling or perhaps unable to hide the pleasure the captain's words had brought her. "Thank you. I hope we will be able to show you just how we earned that reputation soon enough."

The lights in the hold blinked from white to red. Showtime!

"All right, troopers! On your feet! Equipment check!" Climbing to her feet, Cor turned to pull Lena up, before striding to one of the side hatches. Unclipping her helmet from her belt, the Hellhound slid it down over her red hair until it clicked into place with the collar of her battledress. The HUD flickered to life the moment it did, displaying her two squad's biosigns in one tab, and her weapon's ammo count in another. She minimised the two as the red glow was abruptly pierced by green.

"Buckets on! Prepare for the drop!" Grabbing the hatch handle, Cor braced alongside her comrades as she waited for the second green light to come on. Flak bursts rocked the drop-ship in the interim, gravity shifting wildly as the pilot ran through a series of evasive manoeuvres in an attempt to keep them in the sky. The timer in the top right of her HUD ticked down unerringly, hitting ten seconds, nine. Cor felt the first trickle of adrenaline enter her system as it hit five seconds. Four.

At three the second green light came on.

Neebray-class Cargo Frigate "Alcove" (True name Banshee), 4x HC-1 Lift Hauler (Hidden cannons in old nose cannon ports)

Kalic took a breath as the "Alcove," the current name that would show up on the Banshee's transponder, as the Neebray-class vessel exited hyperspace and he boarded a "cargo container" that was actually a shuttle module refitted to look like a cargo pod, and an interior coated in nightshadow. Hopefully the Empire would be too busy to worry about some freighter delivering cargo. Soon, one of the modified HC-1's took off, and quickly tired to slip planet side to start this mission.

Asaaj stood as the rest of the soldiers did, she didn't have time to properly answer Corin Autem Corin Autem Or even properly greet Lena Dracov Lena Dracov but as they stood, Asaaj, next to the other witch reached up and gently rested her arm on the armoured bicep of the dathomiri, sending a quick mental thought to her <it is good to see you sister, stay safe, may the spirits be with you>

The last list changed and the doors fully opened. The hellhounds charged out and rappelled down the approximately fifteen metres to the floor, still taking incoming small arms. A light anti vehicle missile streaked into the shuttle and exploded, scorching but otherwise not penetrating the hull. Asaaj waited her turn and stepped off the edge, taking advantage of the force powers of Persephone Ambrosia Persephone Ambrosia she became near weightless and dropped with a disconcerting grace to the ground next to Corin Autem Corin Autem She looked at the hellhound, and nodded, putting something into her mouth and walking ahead. If corin continued to watch, the her image would appear, not quite right, as if shifted from perspective slightly. The effect would make anyone that attempted to focus on her nauseous and give headaches, it was a defensive power that made her much harder to target.

Asaaj pulled out her twin katar and ran forward to a large supplied crate on the edge of the depot, she could hear high caliber blaster bolts richocheting off of the crate. "Major, i will eliminate the heavy emplacement ahead of us too allow your forces to progress."

"I know you are watching, enjoy this"
she then said aloud, to apparently noone present.

Her body looked as of it was catching fires and she reduced to a cloud of ash that blew in the wing. Anyone with sites on the two e-webs unloading fire into the hellhounds would see a similar burning effect happening in reverse, and a figure clad in red cloth appeared behind one of the gunners.

Asaaj burst into action before the gummer even knew she was there. She lashed out with her Katar, immediately punching a hole through his heart and spraying his loader with hot blood. The gunner turned just in time to see the clustering tip of her other blade slash across his face, the tip cutting deep and leaving him sprawling in agony. She lept over and finished him with a clean blow before rapidly cartwheeling out of the arc of the eweb that had been repositioned to deal with her. She launched herself forward and crossed her arms, hitting both the gunner and loader simultaneously just below their collar bones. Standing, her eyes had gone yellow and her teeth extended fully as she glared at the team leader he shook with terror as he reached for his blaster before dropping it. The sergeant turned and began to run back to friendly lines but Asaaj drew her shuriken pistol and three monomolecular plasma edged discs sliced cleanly through his torso, dropping him.

She breathed deeply and encouraged her teeth to retract, she needed to be more careful lest she be exposed to her allies. She turned and stood at the e-webs. "Postion cleared major

Ships: 13'th Assault Line + Flagship of Battlegroup Scourge

With her new title and new ship, Admiral Katherin DuPorcelen received orders to assist in quelling the Lortan resistance. Battlegroup Stygian already made headway for being the primary force of the battle making them be there first. She only recently received the orders from high command to send some reinforcements to tip the scales in favor of the empire. By the time the fraction of her forces came into real space at Lorta, Stygian already was engaged with the enemy. A rudimentary fleet of whatever ships the Lortans could throw into space was what they were up against. They will be broken if Katherin had anything to say about it.

The rest of her ships were in orbit of Lotho Minor to continue snuffing out the Black Sun remnants there to secure the planet for the empire once more. It was just one of her assault lines and her flagship present. Her flagship in particular stood out compared to the other vessels. It's unconventional design compared to imperial ships. A very different model of ship produced by very different means. The Requiem was one of a kind, and the past few weeks were spent by her and her crew of getting used to the different design.

Admiral DuPorcelen was walking from her quarters to the bridge right before entering real space. Her pace was brisk to get there as soon as possible for the instance of needing to give commands. As she walked, a vortex of light began to swirl beside her, with the upper body of a woman with long hair flowing like in a wind around her head as she glided beside the admiral in the ethereal looking form.

"Our ships are about to reach our destination. Should I alert all crew members to battle stations? I have not received any reports regarding specific details of the enemy force ahead of us yet, however the only knowledge we have to work with before reaching our destination is that it is requisitioned craft piloted by zealous forces. With the rate of success the empire has, as well as the size of the fleet being used here, I would say our chances of success are high."
The AI continued to glid beside the Admiral effortlessly as she spoke the general observations. There was a playful nature in her movement, but was very deliberate at the same time.
"Thank you Star, and yes; alert the crew to report to battle stations. Send the word to the other ships too. I want to be ready to engage the enemy right as we jump out of hyper-space if we need to. Send word to Admiral Sicarus that our fleet will be arriving soon. I will not stand for friendly fire."
As the Admiral finished, the alarm blared across the ship for soldiers to report to battlestations, all the while Star remained floating in the air of the corridor to the bridge. Katherin used the time to catch a breath on her respirator to ease her ravaged lungs. Her robotic right arm tensed slightly as memories of combat come back to her. It has certainly been a long time sinse she was on the front lines of imperial conquest.
"Any other details that should be noted before reaching our destination Star?"
"Reports say that there is a Confederate officer on the ground that may be of interest to rebels to evacuate before the Lortans kill him. The garrison from the CIS still holds, and the two groups share ideals to some extent."
"Pesky insurgents! If only command would let me get them. Keep an eye on the sitauion related to any possible activity Star. If I cannot shoot them down in the void or capture them, I want to know what they get up to if they show themselves. If they do not show, then that makes our time here easier. Understood?"
Star nodded, then faded into the vortex before the light was gone, and Katherin was about to enter the bridge. They just entered the system, and the White Baroness sat herself in her command chair. They were right behind the lines of Admiral Sicarus' ships, and appraoching the line slowly.

Lena followed the soldiers exampled and stood up, but froze as Asaaj sent the mental thought. It certainly was comforting, but it caught her off guard. It was rarely a form of communication she used, but none the less, she'd take it. <As with you, sister.>

She didnt have time to say more though, as the doors fully opened. She didn't follow suit though, instead, she vanished, with her being replaced with green mist, and what resembled ashes. . As she reappeared on the ground, she took out her rifle and scanned the surroundings as the rest of the Hellhounds made their way down. Corin and Asaaj soon followed suit, with the rest of the squad fanning out, making ready to move.

"Major, i will eliminate the heavy emplacement ahead of us too allow your forces to progress."

Lena turned her attention back to her, and watched as the nightsister burst into action, she moved with grace and efficiency, clearing out the emplacement in a hasty manner. Though the way she fought, it was... well quite impressive, unusual in a way, but impressive. She sighed and muttered under her breath. "Next ones mine." She approached Asaaj to where the bodies lay strewn across the ground.

"Try not to steal all of the fun."
She said, smirking as everyone else caught up.

Lilanna didn't much care for 'infiltration' missions. Well, that wasn't entirely true, she did enjoy them, but only when she was allowed to go full tilt with it. Given her status as a 'Warden' on this assignment, she had to restrain herself from getting between Corin as she spoke with the other two woman, a hint of jealously stretching between the two's bonds. Still she said nothing, moving to the front of the forces gathered, intent on being the first out of the dropship.
It was something of a pain in her line of work, having to keep her affections contained, the shroud about her head continued the projected illusion, showing a stark black visor from which no light escaped. In truth, Lilanna could see everything through her transparasteel visor, and most of it she didn't like.
Biting her lip, she waited by the door, mind split between the moment the squad would jump, and the voice of Corin. Both important, but for different reasons; she'd have to ensure she'd be there for Corin if the worst happened.
As the signal was given, Lilanna phased, sinking through the floor of the drop-ship and out into the chaos below. She didn't merely fall, rather dropped, approaching the ground rapidly, only at the last second did she will herself to stop, catching herself midair and setting onto the ground softly. She made a hand motion, open palm, turning to face where felt danger, as her saber made contact with her hand. Laying her eyes upon a squad of zealots, her black blade flared to life just as they began to open fire. It was resolved in the span of six blade strokes, and with those aggressors dispatched, she moved to regroup with Corin's strike force.
Leaping high over a defensive wall, Lilanna landed beside the Major, head snapping towards the two Nightsisters, her augmented voice speaking. "Position is clear, for now, I advise moving to the next stage of the operation." She'd have her work cut out for her for sure, after all, there was a lot of tech here to fiddle with.

The timer on her HUD hit zero. Hauling the right-side hatch open, Major Corin Autem stepped back to stand beside Lilanna Kelamvor Lilanna Kelamvor as the world was revealed. Outside, the steady whine of the drop-ship's repulsorlifts had become a deafening roar, the noise loud enough to forestall any words the Hellhound might have shared with her partner. The barrage of flak that had welcomed the Oathbreakers to Lorta began to ease off as small-arms fire began to ping off the heavily armoured hull. Rockets fired by combatants on the ground blurred past the hatch, leaving vapour trails in their wake.

<<"Hell of a day for it.>>" Corin said over the squad-wide comms as the Styx levelled out, the pilots making ready to deposit their cargo on the nearest flat rooftop. Casting her gaze beyond the sea of blaster bolts and hastily-fired rockets, Corin watched as more than a dozen other drop-ships did the same. Behind her, at the opposite hatch, the view was much the same; laced with fire and brimstone and anything else the Lothans thought to throw at them.

The drop-ship ground to a halt quite suddenly.

<<"Go! Go! Go!">> The pilot's voice yelled in her ear. Stepping to the edge, Corin was one of the first Hellhounds to make the two meter jump to the rooftop below. Blasterfire arced past her as she fell. Running away from the shuttle as quickly as her legs would carry her, the Hellhound slid into cover, quickly setting up to return fire as her HUD picked out several targets lining the rooftop opposite their insertion point. Blazing away with her FS-18, she barely noticed the helmetless captain as she landed a few feet from her.

When the last of her Hellhounds had made the jump, the Styx-class took off, barrelling away from the rooftop at an angle that would've been downright dangerous had the pilot not been so skilled. <<"We're clear!">> Captain Kyril, second squad's leader, announced over the comms. Crouching down, Cor waved him and his squad away with a quick 'knife' motion. Now that they were down, they could go about doing what they had come here to do.

Raise Hell.

All over the ammo dump, squads of Ultranauts were doing just that. The chatter of blaster and repeater fire was proof enough that most- if not
all of the raiders had made it to the CIS compound unscathed. Formerly CIS, Corin reminded herself, blasting holes through a trio of lightly-armoured Lothans who had been crossing the duracrete below. The base had fallen to the locals right at the start of the rebellion, due in part to the arms and armour stockpiled here, but also because it sent a message to their once-overlords. We are our own kings now, they had seemed to say. This is our world.

Well, unfortunately for them, that message hadn't reached the Eternal Empire.

Not that it would've changed things. Sensing Lil's rage through her bond, Cor turned just in time to see the Warden approach. Though she hadn't seen it happen, Cor knew she had killed, and killed swiftly. Just like Asaaj - the helmetless captain Asaaj!- did, carving her way through two E-web emplacements in the time it took to blink. Now I'm starting to understand why they sent her, Cor mused, jogging across to where Asaaj and Lena waited. Bodies, broken and bloodied, littered the E-web nest. Cor didn't bat an eye.

"Right! Asaaj, Lena, Lil... I want you three leading us in. Since Kyril's got the motor pool, we're headed for the armoury three-hundred meters hence." She pointed past the two witches towards the far side of the roof. " Once we're there, we have to head down two levels, down to where the stone's thickest. Think you can get us there?"

”Is the ambush ready?” Jas asked the captain of the enormous battlecruiser as he adjusted his cuirass. He had to admit, he wasn’t exactly expecting proper equipment when he heard that the Lortans had “some old CIS gear” lying around. Not that he was complaining, the less damage the Hellions sustained, the bigger their pay would be at the end of the day.

”Ja, ja, no worries, red boy. Just waitin’ on da word, den we jomp em chop chop, vershta?” The captain reassured the Pureblood mercenary with a charming smile. He looked rough, though in an experienced manner. He obviously wasn’t a stranger to battlefields or warfare, though Jas wasn’t exactly confident in the Lortans’ tactical abilities.

One thing was certain, though. These people didn’t lack when it came to passion. Between tactics and passion, the latter was always a dangerous tool that never should be underestimated. They were fanatics, ready to kill or die for their god.

He looked at the scanners of the battlecruiser. The layout was fairly conventional, though still a bit messy. Star Destroyers and Cruisers lined in a wedge along the front, with the smaller support ships staggered and spread out along the rear. The Hellion corvettes were still housed inside their motherships’ hangars along with the fighters, ready to jump at the first moment and strike.

”Hey, wena! Get da sunbeams gered!” The captain barked at one of the gunnery officers on the bridge. ”Ja, kombat!” he replied before ordering one of his men to carry out the order. Jas nodded to himself, given the Eternal Empire’s track record, it wouldn’t hurt to have those on standby.

Jas’ job was simply to advise and give input where it was needed. Though as the blips appeared on their scanners and filled their viewports, he had a feeling that his role was going to become more active.

”I got a bad feeli-”

”HAHA, KOM FASHISTA! KOM, HERE WE ARE!”

The bridge erupted in roars and cheers as the first shots rang out from outside, the void soon filled with turbolasers and kinetic rounds as the Eternal Empire clashed with the Lortan Armada.

huZR2Ic.gif

”Dey got backup!”

”Send word to da Star Dastroyas! Move in!”

The ship shuddered as round after round impacted its shields, but they held up.

The fleet started to move in, with the star destroyers spreading out to engage the enemy with all of their firepower. Behind them, flak corvettes protected them from starfighters strafing them as they hid behind their bigger counterparts. The primary targets for the big ships were the Eternal Empire’s ships of the line. Their battlecruisers, carriers and star destroyers. They could sustain the punishment for now, though it would soon be time to spring the trap.

For now, though, their plan was to wait and see what the enemy had at their disposal. There would be time to get fancy, for now they needed to know what they had up their sleeve.

But that didn’t mean they would just sit back and do nothing.

Two of the Demeton-class Cruisers broke from the group, turning hard to starboard before they jumped to hyperspace, only to stop behind the enemy’s left flank. Immediately they started to open fire on the rear of the flanking ships while the crews within chanted and laughed with maniacal anticipation.

First Degree Burn

Automatic Civil Defense Laser Disruptor (Crippling Scope)

Objective: BYOO. (Amalgam), Vanguard (Laertia)

Earlier...

"So you don't mind if I go willy nilly and slaughter every Lortan I come across?" The Amalgam asked as she test fired one of the new weapons made by their family owned company, Sword Herald Special Purpose Enterprises. An automatic Laser Disruptor Rifle. She and Xiphos were in a training area.

The Amalgam squeezed off a few shots, smiling at its low recoil.

"Oh, dear Uri...she always could make a rifle..." The Amalgam remarked.

"Most of the locals are psychos who have a history of pulling this. Best to just stomp out their teeth on the pavement..." Darth Xiphos said, clad in her spiky black biker leathers, also testing out one of the new rifles herself. She squeezed off a few shots herself.

"Julia..." The Amalgam began, putting down the rifle.

"What?"

"Why are we helping The Eternal Empire?"

"I made deals. I honor my deals." Xiphos answered, squeezing a few more shots off. "Why?"

"You are aware that the Eternal Empire betrays everybody else eventually, when they think their usefulness has run its course? You aren't one of them. You never will be. I can still feel you seething with rage at how Ingrid L'lerim treated Lyssa."

"I can't change The Empress, Leejun. Phyre. Whoever the feth you actually are."

"You can hide it, Julia, but I know you. Better than you know yourself at times. That snub stung. You're nothing but an expendable lackey. She has no respect for you. She would call Cedric Grayson or those cowards in the GA friend before she would even start thinking about holding you in any regard." The Amalgam hissed.

"She's taking an immense risk just concealing us in her territory. Plus, even she can't ignore the strength of our Technology at this point. Our citizens bled for Panatha. We failed there, but we still bled alongside them.

"You could drop dead tomorrow and I'd doubt she'd bat one red eyelash..." The Amalgam snorted, shaking her head. "Dear Julia, dear, dear Julia...just what am I going to do with you?" The Amalgam asked, cupping Xiphos's snow pale face with white gloved hands. "You can't put it past Ingrid to sell you and your family out to save her empire or curry favor with her allies. I don't think she or the rest of this empire care what you bring to their table. You're an outsider, and the offerings of an outsider are worthless to them. They'll throw you under the rug when it's convenient for them. You need to be prepared for treachery and to inflict it in turn."

Xiphos blinked, then chuckled. While she couldn't help but be amused, even as she realized that The Amalgam was attempting to poison her relationship with the EE. But it was still damn funny she would try.

"She would be throwing away a powerful ally."

"That doesn't mean she isn't delusional enough to try it." The Amalgam argued, hands on her hips. "Waiting to be betrayed is a bad move."

"If we strike first, we're the treacherous ones."

"Treachery is the Sith Way."

"True. But in this case it's counter productive." Xiphos argued, unloading the rifle and putting it down. Doing her best to hide her growing terror at The Amalgam's full throated attempt to disrupt what little equilibrium House Io had gained with the EE. She had to bury this now. "If she decides to betray us, we will strike without any mercy in retaliation. But until such an event occurs, we will continue to act in good faith. That way, if she decides to pull a Jar Jar, we'll be completely able to justify whatever retaliation we visit."

"Waiting for an enemy to slit your throat--"

"The Eternal Empire isn't an enemy, Amy."

"Not yet." Amy countered. "You ask me, Ingrid's just looking for an excuse."

"Which we won't give her."

"She treated your daughter like a thing to be discarded. If she doesn't respect your daughter as a living being, what makes you think she values you? Or your other contributions? When you built her and sent her to Ingrid to assist her? You're probably even lower than Lyssa in her eyes. If she is treating your own daughter as inferior openly, she's not that far from treating you the same. If her empire was so Eternal, why is she cutting deals with all these other regional powers? Face it, Julia..." The Amalgam said, face and body violently warping to that of the red headed Atrisian that had long ago digested and integrated The Amalgam into herself, Darth Phyre.

"The 'Eternal Empire' is only as Eternal as it's enemies--or it's allies, for that matter--permit it to be."

Xiphos said nothing at this.

"But you're right. Maybe. Maybe we should play along for now. Just remember that we told you so if she gets a knife in you." Phyre said softly, flesh and mind warping right back to The Amalgam's.

The Amalgam walked off, leaving Xiphos silent in the training chamber.

Present:

The Alyosha Series Star Destroyer Fog of War jumped out of Hyperspace next to Aximand's fleet, followed by two others, the three destroyers transmitted friendly identification to the fleet of Aximand Sicarus Aximand Sicarus . Xiphos of course, did not identify herself as Xiphos, in full disguise under her pseudonym 'Lady Crownwraithe', who sent an encrypted transmission to his flagship asking where her vessels might best assist his own, as she did not wish to ruin whatever strategem he was cooking up.

As Xiphos waited for a response on the lead bridge, in full disguise in blood red robes and a full, blank face mask of Ruusan Copper, she tried to push out what Amy/Phyre had said to her about treachery from Ingrid and the Empire. She knew it was poison, and that it was Amy's nature to try and poison the minds of others with doubt--

...that said, this poison had its routes in very real, very private fears that kept Xiphos awake at night, and Amy/Phyre was likely counting on that. To the credit of that abomination, she knew which buttons to press.

Xiphos awaited a response from Aximand, even as Amy departed in a combat shuttle to the surface. Her goal? To do evil dark side chit and slaughter some of the locals if possible...

She tried not to fidget in her seat, suddenly filled with doubt. What if Amy was right. What if Ingrid and the Empire were just letting her get complacent? Waiting until she dropped her guard?

And Amy had been right about one other thing: She had been enraged at how Lyssa had been treated by Ingrid, despite having prepared Lyssa to receive that kind of a reception.

Maybe it wouldn't hurt to have a few more contingencies in place...

Xiphos kept a tight reign on her paranoia. Greater Sith than her had been brought down by it.

Meanwhile...

It had not been long after setting down in the streets of Lorta that The Amalgam had gotten to work blasting Lortans, admiring the smooth recoil of her new rifle as she caused the warriors she hit an excessively painful death from the Laser Disruptor Rifle. She struck while making herself invisible with the Force. Sure, she could have simply fried the crowds of Lorta Warriors she ambushed through the streets, but The Amalgam had learned long ago that growing too reliant on The Dark Side for combat was a slippery slope.

Besides,. She enjoyed reminding herself that she was more than just a level 50 Necromancer with a lot of points in Two Handed and Destruction. She had 100 on her guns stat also.

She smiled as she gunned down yet another Lortan, moving like a Scythe through burning streets, spotting EE Ultranauts moving through the streets and backed them up, as while she was not pleased at Laertia's insistence on doing things honorably where the EE was concerned, she wasn't about to aggravate her.

Especially not after achieving an equilibrium with her.

The Amalgam didn't care what titles they used between each other as long as the end result was Amy getting to keep Laertia and Maple, and eventually drive them to the Dark Side completely.

Then they could all be together. No titles. No honorifics, They would be three broken souls made whole, together --

-- and killing and mutilating the innocent for hopefully an eternity.

She would have said anything, done anything, called herself anything to get them to accept her. And it was working! Sort of.

Maple still feared and despised her utterly, and rejected any family-type sentiment between them. The Amalgam didn't care. She would kill and kill and torture everything and everyone she had to torture and kill if the end result was being loved regardless by them both.

The Amalgam didn't try to lie to herself as she shot a pregnant Lortan woman--even the approval of her Goddess didn't matter as much as having Julia and Uri, all to herself.

A Laser Disruptor bolt fired by her pierced the head of a fleeing Lortan teenager, killing her instantly. The Amalgam smiled, wondering how she would break the news to Uri that she had used her brand new model of rifle to snuff out the innocent.

You'll enjoy it too someday, Uri. I promise...

Just then, The Amalgam sensed danger, barely dodging an armor piercing bullet that forced her out of cloak.

The Amalgam snarled, got behind rubble, incensed at having her merciless killing spree even momentarily interrupted.

When she spies who had taken the potshot however, her eyes went wide.

He was crouched behind a sandbag, holding only an assault rifle and a machete. But he was wearing the farthest thing from traditional armor.

You see, everyone. This particular individual was in a pink furry suit.

A man in a Furry Suit, taking potshots at a Dark Side Witch.

Yeah. The day had gotten bizarre.

She laughed as Lena Dracov Lena Dracov approached her and chided her for hogging the fun "Sorry Sister, i will make sure to save you plenty" she stuck her hand out rapidly and redirected a missle that was heading their way rapidly, slamming in into a wall.

She watched as the dark armoured woman landed next to Corin Autem Corin Autem . She sensed something between the two of them, but was getting very little reading on Lilanna Kelamvor Lilanna Kelamvor herself. She watched as the woman flashed her black blade about with grace. She had seen the black bladed warriors before but everything about them was classified. Maybe a chance to learn more today.

Corin and Lil caught up with the two sisters and issued them all with some instructions "Consider it my pleasure major" she wiped some blood off of her head and sniffed it, as if checking whether it was hers. That was a mistake, she thought to herself as the arousal surges through her body once again. There was a group of containers here, then a small clearway before a defensive wall. A great defensive position, an awful proposition for attackers.

There was a thumping noise and Asaaj peered through the gaps, damn, they had air support. She gave Corin a look and gestured towards it. Then ran, she was light on her feet and her Sanuine blood made her exceptionally fast, she dodged to one side as the helicopter opened up with rotary cannons at her, kicking up sprays of stone and earth. There was a small bluff of dirt before the defensive wall and she slid into place, the helicopter began to turn on the spot, trying to bring its cannons to bare on the witch again as the most pressing target, but in doing so, giving the rest of soldiers the opportunity to fire upon it, or cross the open ground, only having to worry about the static defences.

Another Missile streaked from the helicopter and Asaaj again redirected it, this time it smashed against the wall not quote far enough from her. Several defenders were likely injured in the impact, but the concussion force also caught Asaaj and knocked her prone. She had to think fast as the cannons opens and trails of eart sprung up in front of her. She kicked her legs and sprang to her feet, just in time to dodge out of the way of the oncoming ammunition.

"now or never girls!!" she called through the radio.

“I still can’t believe we’re under the command of a…Nelvaan squirrel uplift? I get that the Empire is a meritocracy, but-”

“For your sake, I would cut that thought. This is a recorded line. Consider that a warning, Three.” Bella interrupted. With fresh blood having recently been injected into Royal Squadron, Bella had been quick to set the necessary boundaries and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism in her unit. And yet, some chafed at the discipline or sought to toe the line. She wondered if it had something to do with her height. It had rarely been a problem for most of her career, but surrounded by so many jocks and aggressive, Type A personalities, there were times where she felt like her voice was undercut by her subordinates.

Or maybe she was just being paranoid?

Shaking those thoughts free from her skull, Bella’s fingers swiftly darted across her interceptor’s controls as she ran through the pre-flight sequences. The canopy sealed shut over her head as the engines hummed to life, before the Togruta grasped the control sticks, breath suspended in her chest as she waited for the signal to launch.

Not long after, it arrived.

In a burst of violent acceleration, Bella drove her interceptor into the void as the enemy fleet in the far distance began to open fire. Flying close to the hull of the Descent, the Togruta waited for her squadron to launch, before delivering her orders.

“Royals! We’re setting a screen around the Descent, to ward off any fighter and missile attacks. Keep your eyes peeled and be ready to engage at any time! Form up in pattern delta-seven with loose spacing!”

Her voice was answered with a chorus of affirmative tones, to which Bella briefly closed her eyes in relief. For now, it seemed that her fears were unfounded.

Aboard the "Alcove", the crew kept an eye one the Imperial vessels jumping into the system. The helmswoman eyed the captain, seeming a tad jumpy. This was her first actual mission, and the sight of the Eternal Empire jumping in wasn't helping things.

"Easy. Just fly casual and keep her steady. Hopefully they won't care. Right now though best tell the lifters." She nodded a bit, hitting the comms.

"Gilder 1 through 4. We have what looks like warships jumping in. Just watch your flightpath and keep out of their way."

"Roger that Alcove. We'll keep clear."

Kalic meanwhile could only wait as the smaller "container lifter" began to dip into the atmosphere. Hopefully, the Empire wouldn't bother them when they were so close.

As the Descent received updates from Rear Admiral Sicarus, the Commadore's ships moved forward to fill the line. The Logistic continued to charge it's Trinity Proton Pulse Cannon, and the fighters finished their move into escort positions. His small fingers flitted over the console and took in as much information as he could. The crew could feel what it wanted about his size and species; however, they were a credit to the Eternal Empire: Not one disobeyed a command. His tail flicked as a pair of Trench-Class corvettes began to harass their flanks and pushed through the lines.

Their attacks did little real damage, but it was enough to keep the frigates and corvettes on their toes. Fingers scrolled through all the information they had on the ships, and he nodded. "Push two of our Coda's to the back. Have them perform full barrages. The ships will move fast, damage against them will be minimal. However, have four squadrons of the X-Wings hide in their shadows, then move to intercept. Do not get close and do not target the ships. They can maneuver quickly, but its doubtful its enough to move out of the way of a full missile barrage in their direct lines of travel. Squad leaders, direct the attacks in the most effective way. Even one barrage should be enough to take one of those things out. The captains will have to make a choice."

The Coda's made the slow turn towards the flank, and the Corvettes saw easy prey. They began to fire upon the powerful shields of the frigates. Turbolaser barrages were easily dodged by the nimble corvettes. However, in between firing runs the squadrons gathered and once the Corvettes moved back in to attack, the Coda's hypervelocity cannons also opened fire. In that same moment the fighters rushed out and ambushed the pair.

Between the waves of turbolasers, the hypervelocity cannons and the dumb torpedo runs from the fighters the Corvettes had little time to react. One of the Corvettes hesitated just a little longer than the other and a wave of torpedoes slammed into its shields. They buckled and fell under the barrage. It slowed it's turn, and the powerful turbolasers chewed it apart. The ship exploded into glorious shrapnel not longer after. However, the other managed to put distance between them, and regrouped with the rest of the fleet. The Squirrel's fingers tapped on the command panel. It was good enough for now.

Warning klaxons alerted the crew of the three heavy cruisers microjumped into attack positions at their flank. The squirrel rubbed his brow as it furrowed. "Do not turn to focus on the cruisers. Use long range attacks as best as you can, keep your distance. If they have even a few that can microjump, chances are there are more. There could also potentially be ships awaiting to ambush us outside the system. Do not get sloppy. Stay together. Logistic, begin targeting against one of the Murkhana-Class escort frigates."

He pulled back his fighters into their loose escort patterns and awaited what would happen next. All the while the Logistic began to finish charging and acquiring its target.

”Incoming cruisers coming in from lightspeed sir. They appeared to be the commandeered Demeto--!” The span of time between when the two Lortan-controlled Demetons exited lightspeed and when their position dawned upon the tactical officer aboard the ENS Braccus was simply not enough to do anything else but blurt out the following words:

”INCOMING!”

The bridge crew aboard the Eternal Fleet cruiser hardly had any time to react as one of the Lortan Demeton’s not only emerged from lightspeed, but proceeded on an intercept vector straight into the starboard broadside of the Braccus. There was too much momentum to avoid the collision whether the Lortan’s wanted to or not. Within moments of the announcement, the offending cruiser crashed dead center of the Braccus’ midsection. Her deflector shields buckled under the unrelenting mass of the cruiser, and eventually shorted out from the strain. Her armor plating was next, with the durasteel panels straining, and in some sections, buckling. The Braccus listed violently from the impact, with the lights flickering as her power system struggled to recover from the overload of the shields. As the Lortan cruiser’s momentum carried the Braccus with it, the damage readings began to level out. Coincidentally, the engineering officer was able to right himself and check the readings of the ship.

”Decks 7 through 9 have been breached on the starboard section. Casualties are currently unknown, but the different affected departments are in the process of reporting.”

”Prepare for boarding.” The captain said. She was a lithe, but fierce looking Dathomiri from the enclave which had recently settled within Imperial space. Clearly, she had taken well to the integration her people had undergone. It was also clear that, despite the high levels of damage to her ship, the prospect of hand to hand combat caused a glimmer to shine in her eye. ”Bring whatever guns we can to bear on this thorn in our side and unleash hell upon their prow section.”

Shortly after she spoke the orders, the Braccus’ guns groaned into position facing the Lortan cruiser. Several of her starboard-broadside turbolasers were, obviously, offline - but a respectable amount of armaments were able to lock onto the ship nonetheless. Within moments, dozens of the wounded ship’s weapon systems unleashed upon her former sister-ship.

Meanwhile, the other Lortan Demeton had, thankfully, avoided impacting into any ships nearby - but barely. Her trajectory would land her squarely in front of the infamous Callides-class Heavy Carrier; the former flagship of Aximand himself, the Retribution. Aximand’s eye focused on the live tactical map before him as his own tactical officer began updating him about the situation aboard the ENS Tiberius. A feral grin lined his lips, as his old flagship began to unleash upon the second Lortan Cruiser with her own considerable weapons batteries. Clearly, his old friend Varys Praxxis needed no invitation to clean off the filth in his way.

And clean it off he would. While the Retribution was unable to go toe to toe with proper battlecruisers, her armaments and defenses were more than a match for a cruiser - even one as imposing as the Demeton. A pair of Coda-class frigates joined in on the fray as they locked onto the same target as the Retribution, with another Demeton cruiser - the ENS Xyllon - throwing everything she had at her disposal upon the one pinning the Braccus. Several squadrons of the first fighter wing Aximand had earlier dispatched had redirected to form an attack run against the pair of cruisers, even as the Lortans had unleashed with their own armaments to cause as much mayhem as possible. Their weapon systems peppered the shield systems of several of the surrounding craft, but thus far had served as little more than a nuisance outside of completely T-boning the Braccus.

As Aximand’s right-flank proceeded to deal with the flanking Demetons, the remainder of his fleet had been able to form up into a battle line to mirror that of the Lortans - the remaining Demeton cruisers, together with the Eternal-class Star Destroyers - formed up in the front of the line, supported by the Ashkelon-class Frigates who were interlaced within the formation 45-degrees aft oblique, which would allow for them to be close enough to provide coverage with their flak batteries should the Lortans launch their own fighters, while also allowing the larger mass of the other ships to cover them as they advanced. His Vikaander-class Light Cruisers formed the Eternal Fleet’s left flank, alongside a strong contingent of Coda-class Frigates who screened their movements as they swung wide to rendezvous with the flotilla of CR-90 Mk. VIII Corvettes with a handful of Disruptors for support, who surged around from behind the Eternal Fleet’s line. Together, both the corvettes and the Vikaanders swung wide to slingshot around Lorta’s moon and attempt to flank the enemy line.

Meanwhile, Aximand knew he had to compensate for the flanking maneuver against his right. He knew the ships there could contain the ill-conceived annoyance of an assault by the Lortans, but he needed to prevent them from capitalizing upon it.

”Commodore Einar, order the main battle line to advance at a cant of 30 degrees to starboard at cruising speed. Focus fire upon the enemy’s right flank to ease the assault by our skirmishing force.”

Without delay, the Commodore executed the Admiral’s orders. The main battle line surged forth, shifting to the Eternal-right to screen the ships engaging the renegade Demeton cruisers, all while their guns angled to fire their entire port broadside armaments upon a section of the Lorton-right. Within moments, the full weight of the fleet’s Apocalypse-class Battlecruisers, Eternal-class Star Destroyers, and mixed company of cruisers and frigates unleashed upon an area occupied by two former-CIS Star Destroyers, intent on punching a hole through the line so as to cause disarray when the flanking force came about.

”Admiral, we are receiving a message from Admiral DuPorcelen. She is bringing the 13th Assault Line to assist with the engagement. She has made it a point to remind you that ‘friendly fire will not be tolerated’” The communications officer’s tone bordered upon the amused at the end of the statement, but he kept it in check well enough. Aximand paused and physically turned to look at his comm’s officer; even as high-intensity plasma discharges surged in the viewport at the front of the bridge for all to witness.

’Who in the hell does this woman think she is?’ Aximand thought to himself. Of course, the dignity mandated by his rank precluded him from giving voice to such incredulous thoughts, but they remained all the same. He did not know Admiral DuPorcelen personally, but rather primarily by reputation. To the best of his recollection, she was primarily tasked with bringing the Imperial world of Lotho Minor into compliance, and had forged a reputation of some renown in so doing. Her presence would be welcome of course, but it did bring up questions nonetheless.

Did STRATCOM think him weak? As if he were not up to the task?

He shook away such thoughts almost as soon as they arose. They were poisonous, and led to a level of hubris deadly within any commander. Instead of giving voice to any of this thoughts, Aximand merely nodded at his comms officer as he said:
”Signal back and acknowledgement, and transmit a request for Admiral DuPorcelen’s forces to support our flanking force in assaulting the Lortan’s right flank. Transmit our firing solutions so that her ships can avoid this ‘friendly fire’. Communicate our hopes that her navigators are up to the challenge.”

The comms officer smirked at that last bit, with a slight chortle escaping the lips of a scattered few throughout the bridge. Even the normally stoney demeanor of Commodore Joram Einar couldn’t help but smirk. The Eternal Fleet was easily considered among the ablest of naval forces in the galaxy, and to many on the outside, it may have appeared to be a monolith of mindless drones following the orders of whomever was at the very top. While yes, the Eternal Fleet was based upon a strong foundation of discipline and obedience to orders, there was a high level of pride associated with the individual fleets and flotillas each man and woman was assigned to, which fostered a certain level of “friendly” rivalry.

Some would likely find it peculiar for such bravado to take place in the middle of a battle, but those individuals likely do not serve within the Eternal Fleet, and could not quite understand the psyche of those in the service.

That said, the time for wordplay and ribbing had passed. Aximand ’s gaze returned to the viewscreen within the bridge as his ships unleashed their firepower upon the Lortan battle line - his Apocalypse-class Special Issue Battlecruiser lashing out with her massive Malmourral Plasma Cannons and Hypervelocity Cannons alongside her sister ships; the Glaive and the Victus.

As the ships of 'Lady Crownwraithe ‘entered into the fray, Aximand responded to their hail with a direct communication:
”We request that you push against the Lortan-left flank so that we can form a pincer movement. Signal to us when you are in position, and we will dedicate some of our forces to assist you.” He then turned to his comm officer again. ”Convey orders to Commodore Tyth'xio to redeploy his fleet to assault the Lortan-left with Lady Crownwraithe’s forces. We will handle the center.”

  • One of the Lortan Demetons met head-first against the starboard side of one of the Eternal Fleet’s Demeton Cruisers - the ENS Braccus.
  • The surrounding ships with the ENS Braccus - positioned along the Eternal Fleet’s right flank, have mobilized to respond, unleashing their firepower upon the two enemy cruisers.
  • Aximand has dispatched a skirmishing force, composed of (2) Vikaander Cruisers, all CR-90 Mk VIII Corvettes, and (4) Disruptor Corvettes to attack the Lortan right flank by swinging around the moon and coming in from the far side.
  • The main battle line of the Eternal Fleet shift to the right (To the left from the perspective of the Lortans) to screen the ships engaging the Lortan Cruisers.
  • As the main battle line maneuvers as mentioned above, they also unleash their considerable firepower upon a focused section of the Lortan-right flank, to soften up the section to the eventual attack.
  • Aximand requests that Admiral DuPorcelen’s forces support his skirmishing force in their assault against the Lortan-right.
  • Aximand requests that Lady Crownwraithe’s forces lead an assault against the Lortan-left.
  • Aximand signals to Tyth'xio to support Lady Crownwraithe

Objective: 1, acknowledging 2
Location: Outskirts of Lortan System behind Eternal Navy's current line

The comms were alive from the imperial lines. As they entered real space, a message from the ENS Tiberius came in.

"Admiral. Admiral Sicarus wants us on the right flank to begin a pincer maneuver."
"Tell him, understood."
She then turned her piercing, violet gaze over to the navigators and helmsman.
"Helmsman! Steady turn to starboard. Keep us behind the lines to not get in the way of Stygian.
"Steady turn starboard behind the lines. Copy."
"Navigators! Plot the course, and keep him to it."
"Plotting course to right flank. Copy."
She then pressed a button on her console to alert the rest of her auxillery forces.
"13'th Assault line, this is ENS Requiem. Fall in behind me, and take up defensive position on Stygian's right flank. Wait on command from ENS Tiberius to begin pushing towards the enemy."
A chorus of "Copy" rang out from the command console of the assault line, and the ships began to fall behind the Requiem. To the left, the Lortans were being reckless with their tactics. She saw what passion brings about in people from her dealings on the frontier of the empire. Smaller rebel cells with nothing to loose, or death throws of Black Sun remnants against her blockades. This was no different to Katherin.

She then turned to the comms worker on the bridge.

Comms! Keep all forces of Scourge in general quarters while we transit, and alert Scourge gunners to watch our starboard side. If the Lortans try to route the line while we are in transit, Scourge is the only thing cushioning Stygian's rear. Let's make good on that."
"All forces of Battlegroup Scourge. Remain at general quarters and have gunners watch starboard side."

The transit to the right flank so far went smoothly. Stygian kept the Lortans from punching holes to their port side, while starboard remained empty. Eventually, they fell in to defensive positions at the right flank of the line. They formed a small V-shaped formation with the Requiem in front of the vertex, and the frigates and corvettes making up the outskirts towards the front to form a screan.
"Comms! Tell Admiral Sicarus the 13'th Assault line and ENS Requiem are in position on the right flank and await further command."
As the comms worker relayed the message to the ENS Tiberius, Katherin sat observing the Lortan's response. As expected, they began shifting their lines to the right to cover the new reinforced flank. While the Lortans repositioned, Katherin ordered, "Comms! Order gunners aboard Requiem and in the 13'th Assault line to open fire on the Lortan right flank. Keep it at long range volleys until they come closer."
That command was then relayed, yet Katherin's attention was turned to the vortex of light forming to her right side. Eventually, Star's whispy figure appeared.
"Any signs of rebel activity Star?"
"At the moment, nothing confirmed. There are a few civilian ships outside the battle, but their purpose of being here is unknown. Other than that, there are no other vessels aside from Eternal Navy and Lortan Armada forces present. Should I focus on monitoring the civilian ships' activity?"
"If they are our only lead; yes. However keep an eye out for any other smaller craft entering the system that does not belong to us."
"Understood, Admiral."
After that, the AI figure dissapeared into the votex of light it appeared from. Katherin sat rigidly upright in her command chair. Her eyes darted from station to station on the bridge, and so far nothing too alarming. She then looked out past the bridge to the Lortans ahead of their line. Something seemed off, which might be why the imperial line had not pushed fully yet. She tensed her cybernetic arm as memories of when a similar feeling took hold happened before. Such a thing will never happen again.
