These rifles come from Ashla-Worshipping churches built over minor Force Nexuses across Epica. Constructed and lain near the very heart of the Nexus, It is considered taboo to take one from the church, unless it is an extraordinary emergency, though community members of the first Epican Settlers who had proven especially meritorious were awarded especially old examples that were passed down through family, which is usually how most examples found off world came to be so.
Other reasons exist for the taboo. A less pure minded soul might make use of it as a specialized assassin's weapon...meaning examples still in their churches are under lock and key.
