STRENGTHS
  • Shield Bypass: Same as any solar ionization cannon, the RMSD-M11 has the capability to deal out a massive amount of damage against targets while bypassing conventional shield systems.
  • Independent Design: The RMSD-M11 is completely able to function without organic input -- an advanced targeting package and self-targeting/firing system allow the RMSD-M11 to be extremely automated and efficient. In addition to that, the RMSD-M11 features advanced targeting capabilities that allow it to perform well at long ranges. Finally, the M11 features its own individual power generator, meaning that it does not have to draw off of or rely on the power generation of the ship.
  • Well-Defended: The RMSD-M11 is built with its very own deflector shield generator to protect against concentrated attack. This allows the weapon, as its large profile makes for an easy target, to weather additional oncoming damage and still remain functional.
WEAKNESSES
  • Heavy Weapons: The RMSD-M11 is an extremely large weapon, effectively the size of a heavy cruiser. For ships that are smaller than a battlecruiser, it is not physically possible to mount this weapon without overloading a ship's power generators.
  • Fast-Moving Targets: The RMSD-M11, being the large weapon it is, is only able to effectively track and fire against large, slow-moving targets -- cruisers and up -- meaning that fast-moving ships that also have a small profile will be able to effectively dodge the battery.
  • Planetary Protection: Due to the natural atmospheric composition of a layer of ozone, planets naturally filter out the solar radiation that holds the ionized particles of the RMSD-M11 together. Any attempt made to fire at a planet with a solar ionization battery will result in the beam fizzling out mid-atmosphere, meaning that the battery cannot perform conventional orbital bombardments.
  • Make Way: The RMSD-M11's large profile means that it occupies surface space that would otherwise be taken up by other weapons.
  • Charge Time: The amount of time needed for the RMSD-M11 to effectively ionize particles to create a charge limits the firing of the cannon to only intermittent (effectively every other post). This also means that for a ship to perform a hyperspace jump, it cannot allocate sufficient power to charge a cannon or keep it charged (effectively meaning that hyperspace jumps reset the charging time).
  • Unstable: The RMSD-M11 is powered by a Sybarium-crystal enhanced magnetic generator. This Sybarium crystal, if overtaxed, can become extremely unstable and result in potential failure and internal collapse of the weapon. To ensure that this doesn't happen on its own, the M11 is restricted to very low firing rates, but a concentrated attack at the core of the weapon without any protective shielding could also render the crystal unstable.
DESCRIPTION
The RMSD-M11 Solar Ionization Battery is Roble Manufacturing's second heavy-weapons project, akin to the ATK-19 Thandarian Mass Accelerator Cannon and RMMD-M5 Mass Driver Cannon in terms of relative size and power. The RMSD-M11 is a massive weapon, roughly eight-hundred meters in length, and thus in that conventional sense cannot be mounted on anything smaller than a battlecruiser -- and it's manufacturer-recommended that it be a particularly large battlecruiser, at that.

Although the size is a huge detriment, the battery more than makes up for it in the sheer power that the RMSD-M11 can deliver. The solar ionization battery has the potential to deal out massive amounts of damage, the ionized light particles of the cannon being able to pass through most shields and deal massive amounts of damage. This is only coupled with the fact that the RMSD-M11 has extreme precision, especially over long-range, meaning that even distance cannot protect a ship from the battery.

However, for all of its powerful features, its large size is still a big detriment. The RMSD-M11 is unable to effectively target small, fast-moving targets unless they were literally motionless, and even then it would be hard for the battery to precisely hit extremely small targets. It's size also makes it an easy target for opposing forces, although it has a high amount of defensive measures with that in mind. Lastly, the RMSD-M11 is very slow to fire, so shots have to be chosen and taken wisely. In addition to that is the fact that the Sybarium crystal-enhanced magnetic generator of the M11, if overtaxed or damaged, can become extremely unstable.

Altogether, though, the RMSD-M11 Solar Ionization Battery is an extremely powerful and capable weapon that is by every standard a ship killer.

Hey there. We are gonna have to have a little look at this submission really quick.

The RMSD-M11 is an extremely large weapon, effectively the size of a heavy cruiser. For ships that are smaller than a battlecruiser, it is not physically possible to mount this weapon without overloading a ship's power generators.

All of these specific Quotes I have taken from your submission, point to some previous weapons in Canon that are not allowed on the site as they are considered Superweapons. Such weapons are the Silencer, Gauntlet, Null Cannons, Axial Superlaser, Eclipse-Class Superweapon(Fired through planetary Shielding), and Orbital bombardment Cannons. All of these are weapons that are massive in size. Namely, you mentioning it is purely the size of a Cruiser. Which can be anywhere from 500-1000 meters. All of these weapons were either ship mounted, or were required to be on the ground due to their sheer size. Two of these weapons, were also powered by Crystals. Which yours are currently doing the same.

While you can mention that it requires a massive power source in order to fire, making it physically massive to this magnitude, with the ability to pass through shields, to then deal untold of "Extreme" amounts of damage with a precision that can be from pretty much "As far as the eye can see." is something I can draw almost one to one likeness to the aforementioned weapons I have provided.

Due to this correlation all changes I request are considered Mandatory and Required. Not recommendations.

  1. Please provide weakness of the Sybarium Crystals unstable nature.
  2. Remove the Remodulation Buffer Heatsink. As it was meant for Hyperdrives, keeping this in here only tacks on the idea that this is a Hyperspace Cannon.
  3. Remove the Strength of being defended against EMP and Ion weaponry due to the usage of the Processor Core in which can be hampered by such weapons.
  4. Remove the Weakness of the Large Profile. As your weapon currently has its own shielding system, and makes any point of it being large moot.
  5. Severely reduce the production of this weapon.
  6. Provide the Strength of this being Powered, And Shielded by its own and thus does not consume energy from the ship its mounted too.
  7. Provide Weaknesses that can be exploited in a PVP scenario.

Thank you for the changes you have provided thus far. However, there is still some work to be done.

  1. Please link the Solar Ionization Cannon from the Wiki
  2. Conform your wording to be relaxed on the damage. Terms such as "the RMSD-M11 is able to deal out a massive amount of damage against targets," Will need to be toned down through out the submission to be "has the capability," or "The potential to deal..." Secondly, as the link in the Wiki does not actively state it can do "Massive Damage" only that it can bypass shields and melt durasteel.
  3. Please provide a hard number to the size of this weapon. As mentioned earlier, this weapon could be anywhere from 500-1000 meters in length. Which will make a big difference on what ships can and cannot have this fixed to the ship.
  4. Clear up the wording on your weakness for "Fast Moving Targets." Currently you mention that it could only hit Star Destroyers, then take a step back by stating a frigate could be hit by this. Which is it?

Since you have neglected to perform on the last item I had asked for you to do within the submission, Providing PVP related weaknesses to this, I will give some for you that will need to be added. As currently, your submission is pretty much a dedicated weapon, with shielding, can fire past shielding of pretty much any kind, and do massive damage that could arguably be along the lines of a superweapon.

  1. Due to the utilization of being Solar Ionization, it cannot fire at planetary bodies, perform orbital bombardments or the like due to the Atmosphere of a planet's "O-zone layer" or natural filtering of Solar Radiation. If fired at a planetary body, the "bolt" this will fire will fizzle out. Limiting its usage to Ship-to-ship based combat.
  2. Due to the weapon being extremely large in size, it will limit other weapon based systems that can be used upon a ship that utilizes this weapon. As it will take up a lot of space in which could have otherwise been used for other weaponry. OR it can extremely limit the Hangar Capacity in which can operate upon the ship.
  3. Not only is it a Solar Ionization Cannon, but also using items that draw a heavy amount of power in order to shield, and provide aiming procedures to fire the weapon. Limiting its firing capability, how often it can fire, or a "Charge time" due to drawing a massive amount of power. While it does have its own dedicated core, and power systems,
