Born Roland Maynard Darik, son of Galactic Alliance Marine, Colter Darik, a veteran of the storied 'Wolfpack' Battalion which served under Jedi General Maynard Treicolt until its disbandment near the end of the Third Imperial Civil War. After which, Colter was pulled from the front lines and assigned to a support cadre role at the Anaxes war college, acting as a senior enlisted advisor to help train and mentor up and coming Alliance Defense Force officers. It was during this tenure which Roland was born and was never far from the military lifestyle. However, he was hardly an idealistic youth, often getting himself into trouble and fights with other boys. Eventually, however, he skidded fate too closely, ending up in legal trouble with Alliance authorities. His father was able to broker a deal that saved Roland from any harsh repercussions if he completed a five year service requirement in the Alliance Defense Force.
He obliged, entering recruit training on his home world of Anaxes within the next few months. Initially, he was due to be assigned to the Ground Forces as a maintainer, given the means by which he entered the military. However, his performance in his initial training earned him the attention of those who held the keys to better opportunities and he was selected as part of the tithe of his class to be shifted into more specialized training. It was then that he was branched into the Starfighter Corps. Though it would hardly be behind the cockpit where he would wage war. He would be on the ground, as a terminal attack controller, those embedded with Marine and Ground Force units to integrate starfighter support in the midst of battle. He saw his first action in a counter-insurgency operation in former Imperial space before he eventually saw true war on Empress Teta and later Coruscant.
