Roleplay Advice?

I have some questions I wanna ask.
  1. Is there any way to spice up a Master/Student roleplay? Because I want to make my Padawan to show some form of bond growing between her master so then they can be more like brother and sister, but in the most interesting way possible instead of trying to rehash the Ani-Obi brotherhood. I mean sure, there is going to be some how, some way, a reminiscence of that because well... every show, movie or game with two protagonists are bound to have some sort of theme of brotherhood or sisterhood. But I wanna make it look interesting as the two go along. So is there any suggestions on how I can spice up a training session?
  2. Is it possible to actually encounter a Sith Lord but in a way where it's not like it's all planned, but it was just coincidental, which means, they will have a right to interrupt a thread but at the perfect time? Or does the third person still need permission? Because timing would really make the thread interesting because then, I can prove he just jumped without being told to n all.
  3. Is it 100% necessary if I use @ all the time? because I've begun to stop doing that since I found it really annoying tbh. I mean, the person already knows I'm going to be the ONLY one on the thread so far... so is it really necessary if I keep putting mentions? I only do it for the first few posts then stop...
that's all really. IF I have anymore questions, I'll post them.

  1. Yes, but the spicing up of threads is an issue that needs to be addressed between both the Master and the Apprentice to make it work. An example of a training thread is to learn in motion. Set out on an adventure and have the Master teach the student on the go.
  2. Yes, this is what Public Threads are for.
  3. No, but it's the best way outside of following a thread to ensure that the person you write with is made aware of you having posted.

1. Some stuff I can think of is perhaps there being secrets and problems that can cause bumps in the road, so to speak. Things which will push the bond formed to such limits, and test its strength. My Padawan had more of a father-daughter relationship with her Master than a sibling one, but her resentment with being in the Order and her drug problem (as well as some insecurities) allowed the relationship to be more than buddy buddy. It's important to understand that even in a close relationship, familial-feeling or otherwise, there's always gonna be obstacles. Throw some in and you should be good to go.

2. Assuming you mean where you didn't actually ask the Sith Lord to jump into the thread: any threads posted in the Open Roleplaying Forum and headed with the Public header are open to anyone, which means any person can hop in (unless there's a disclaimer like "PM to join" or "Bounty Hunters Only"). But if you want to attract Sith Lords in general, what you could do is put something into the title thread ( like so: "Meeting of Minds (Open, Sith Lords Welcome!)") OR you can post your thread, then put another thread up in the Role play discussion forum and simply post the link with a sentence or two inviting any Sith to come join in.

3. I know it's annoying, but unless that person is following the thread you're in, the @mention feature is there to notify the writer that you've posted. That way you can both stay on top of things.

1. One thing to keep in mind, people often advance their characters from Padawan to Knight very quickly on Chaos. A span on months, or even weeks in some cases. So that's not a lot of time in which to write and develop a lasting rapport between two PCs. Further, most training of padawans is done by multiple teachers in diverse threads often dedicated to specific skills or abilities -- as opposed to a single instructor. That being said, I think what you're looking for is possible, but you'd want to communicate with the person writing the Master to make certain they understand your desired outcome.

2. "At the perfect time" only works if you're pre-planning and coordinating with people, in my experience. Otherwise, you don't know what they're have planned and they don't know what you have planned, so you might be posting in the same thread but probably are going to have different preconceived notions about where the thread is going or about.

3. If everyone in the thread chooses the "Follow this thread" option, @mention becomes redundant. Otherwise, follow the advice above.

I always say have fun with it and padawan/master threads with training on the go can get some spice but I've been in ones where it felt natural for stuff and I have been in ones where suddenly everything took a complete 180. The one feels good and you can go with it easier, the other well is jarring and usually the natural reaction to being snuck up on by a band of two hundred pirates is to run and take te padawan with you while making a way to obscure it. Also communication is key, a thread one on one where you are both there doesn't need rapid posts. Spend time talking and brainstorming.
