- Description: Root was the organization of personal assassins and guards employed by Kaito Kiyoshi as his criminal alter-ego Maou. Cybernetically enhanced Atrisians and Jar'Kai trained in the ancient ways of Blade and Shadow, Root assassins employed a variety of weapons and skills in order to eliminate their targets. The group was extremely loyal, even for tradition driven Atrisian gangs, and had a near-fanatical obsession with the honor of their duty. They wore a simple uniform that while bright, often helped them blend in with the crowds of Coronet City unassumingly, especially in seedier sectors. Red hooded coats with simple trousers and durasteel-tipped boots with shinguards were their defining features along with their Oni masks. Rarely seen off-world, there have been reported sightings of Root agents throughout the Core and even deep in the Unknown Regions. Nobody knew where Maou had obtained such skilled warriors but it was rumored that they were members of an Atrisian Sith cult or had once been part of the Atrisian Emperor's royal guard. It was rumored that they sought out Sith artifacts for their master.

- Combat Function: Root commonly employed up close and personal sneak attacks in their assassinations when possible. Their near 0 tolerance for failure, however, meant that sometimes attacks required that they utilize long-range snipers or other mediums to eliminate targets. That said, they were trained defenders as well as masters of ancient combat techniques that employed stealth, misdirection, and other trickery to throw the opponent off guard such as the use of smoke screens, acrobatics, and exotic weaponry from their Atrisian homeworld. The most often moved in groups of two to four. Where Maou traveled it was safe to assume there was at least a single group of them hiding in the shadows.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Root was established after Maou's meeting with the Sith Lady Darth Voyance. While his relationship with the Sith Lord was tenuous at first, she gave the crime lord enough breadcrumbs to entice him to further his studies of the Force. In order to increase his appearance of power he collected some of the finest Atrisian assassins promising them wealth, power, and purpose. He used Sith trickery to gain their initial loyalty and utilized his dark powers to break their minds to his will. What remained were shells of their former selves and unquestioning killing machines. They would act as Maou's personal assassins and his seekers, forever scouring the Galaxy for artifacts of dark power.
