"Duty is the greatest word in the dictionary. Do your duty. You cannot do more, you should never do less."

"Admittedly it is not honesty which in real life overcomes dishonesty. In the harsh struggle for existence, the stronger, the harder capacity for self-assertion daily gains victory and yet it is bitter if this capacity is based upon intrigue and a burning ambition as in the case before us."

PHYSICAL INFORMATION
Age
: Thirties.
Force Sensitivity: Non-Force User
Species
: Chiss.
Appearance: Royal is a Chiss female of more than average height and with an imperious manner. She has well cared for hair and nails, and wears immaculate, rich coloured clothing. She takes care to always look her best and stays abreast of what is trendy in the high society circles she walks in. In terms of bearing, she is poised, graceful and precise. In short, she lives up to her 'Royal' name. This is very ironic since she is not an aristocrat. Rather she grew up poor. However, she has done her best to disassociate herself from her humble origins and become a member of the elite in both dress and demeanour.

SOCIAL INFORMATION
Name
: Royal. Her full name is Gro'yald'thas, but she uses her core name since she mostly works with non-Chiss and it is a lot easier for them to pronounce, let alone remember. Given her demeanour, it has become the subject of jokes, but never to her face.
Nicknames:

  • The Blue Eminence
  • Toady-In-Chief
Loyalties: The Inner Circle,House Kerrigan-Alcori, Siobhan, Firemane Industries.
Wealth: Significant. Royal grew up poor, but has acquired significant wealth over the years. Royal is very materialistic, but too smart to steal money from her boss. Her wealth is not on the same level as that of the movers and shakers of galactic politics, but she will not have to worry about how to fund a very comfortable retirement.
Notable Possessions:

  • A fancy penthouse apartment aboard the Arx Aeternae. It has been set up in close proximity to the Kerrigan-Alcori residence.
  • Collection of expensive business suits, shoes and dresses. Some of the dresses are formal and classy, others are of a more risque nature. Her shoe collection includes Heartbeat Heels.
  • Heartbeat Hair Pin to maintain style.
  • A Charric.
  • Stun Pearl.
  • Racket's Bite.
  • She owns a personal starship comparable to the Tantive. It has lavish furnishings meant to accommodate her expensive tastes.
  • Very detailed files on members of her personal staff and major players in Firemane and among its vassals. They are updated on a regular basis.
  • A signed holopic of Siobhan Kerrigan.
Skills: Royal is an extremely efficient bureaucrat, organiser and bookkeeper. She is in charge of managing the Kerrigan-Alcori household and Siobhan's personal chancellery. This makes her an important, but unobtrusive figure in Firemane's hierarchy. She has authority over the Kerrigan-Alcori family's servants, personal guards, personal assistants and members of the harem.

In her capacity as head of the chancellery, she prepares and organises her boss' schedule, handles her correspondence, deals with complaints against Firemane officials, clemency petitions, Siobhan's personal affairs and finances. Moreover, she manages her Lady's estates. In accordance with the elementary principle of bureaucratic accumulation of power, Royal has done her best to fill key posts with people who owe their position to her. Like a watchful, jealous Cerberus, the Chiss manages the flow of information and decides who gets to meet the boss. She is good with paperwork, keeps detailed notes and is a good organiser. Sometimes she also acts as an informal fashion consultant. Royal speaks many languages. Apart from Minnisiat, Cheunh and Sy Bisti, she is fluent in Basic and Eldarai. One of her Chiss relatives, who disapproves of Royal's choices in life, claims that her Cheunh has become corrupted by a Basic accent.

Personality: One day, an acquaintance asked Royal: "What is Firemane's vision statement?" Without any hesitation, Royal replied, "Firemane's vision statement is the will of Lady Kerrigan. Full stop." Yes, she said full stop, too. While this anecdote may be apocryphal, it sums up many aspects of her personality and conception of power dynamics quite well.

When people think of Chiss, they tend to imagine 'genius' admiral or sometimes spies. Royal is neither. Instead she is the type of majordomo and ante-chamber dictator that powerful figures in business and politics inevitably attract. Royal is the chief of Siobhan's household and the head of her boss' personal chancellery, but she has become much more than that. From early on, Royal has done her best to make herself indispensable to her boss. If, during dinner conversation, some incident is mentioned, the Chiss will pull out her notebook and make an entry. Or else, if Siobhan expresses displeasure over some remark, some measure, some product or film, Royal will make a note. If something seems unclear, she will get up and leave the room, but return almost immediately after having given orders to her office staff to investigate at once and to call her, no matter the hour of the day. A simple remark made by Siobhan may thus swiftly be turned into a directive.

Seemingly no assignment or desire of her chief is too daunting or too small for the Chiss to concern herself with. She has acquired a reputation as the 'maid for everything'. For instance, she oversaw renovations in one of Siobhan's vacation residences. It is said that one can reach her at any time of the day or night, even on holidays. She keeps very detailed notes of her boss' thoughts, translating them into directives and regulations. In bureaucratic routine she is readily adaptable and the classic embodiment of the dictator in the ante-chamber. She cannot hinder the access of court favourites and has no say in military matters, but possesses a good deal of informal power since she is never far from her boss' side, never missing the chance to whisper in her ear.

Royal never ceases to maintain a flattering tone with Siobhan. She flatters her boss shamelessly, doing her best to ingratiate herself with Siobhan. Moreover, she supplies her boss with gossip, particularly on her colleagues. This has given her a reputation as a sycophant. It is well-earned. The Chiss is a smoker, but since Siobhan dislikes the smell, she makes sure never to smoke cigarras in her presence. She likes to enjoy a glass of liquor, but she always abstains unless she is absolutely certain that her duties are concluded for the day. She keeps detailed files on the members of her personal staff and Siobhan's retinue, classifying them as threats or assets. She is friendly to those who have Siobhan's favour, but not loyal to them when they lose it. Royal claims to have never pursued a policy of her own other than the Lady's. This is disingenuous. Royal is not a visionary or original thinker, so it is doubtful that she has a different vision for Firemane.

However, while she faithfully implements her boss' policy decisions, she does her best to advance her own career and improve her status. The politics of implementation can be just as important as policy formulation. She is an ideal functionary, ready to adapt and execute someone else's vision without argument. She also lacks inhibitions against presenting someone else's ideas as her own if she believes it will work to her advantage. She has few ties to her native culture and indeed is not that impressed by her fellow Chiss. After all, Csilla has been ruled by foreign governments for most of her life time. Moreover, she was born as a member of the under classes and thus did not have the advantages of the aristocratic elite that stood at the top of the social pyramid. Indeed, she is quite fond of mocking Chiss aristocras. This is ironic since she has done her best to adopt the behaviour of a member of the upper class, right down to dressing like one. Royal seems to be free of the xenophobia that is common among her people. Indeed, she is quite friendly towards the Tygarans. However, it is up for debate whether this is due to genuine egalitarianism or simply because she has taken note that Siobhan is fond of them and disapproves of those who disparage her elves.

Royal is very efficient and skilled, but always seeking to make the best impression. Quite what Siobhan thinks of the Chiss is ambiguous. Royal occupies a position of significant trust, and Siobhan rather enjoys watching the Chiss butter her up. Moreover, the two are sleeping together. However, while Royal's job is important, it also leaves her without a concrete power base. This makes her dependent on Siobhan's favour. She derives her power from the office she holds and her closeness to the chief. It is a good idea for her colleagues to be on Royal's good side, but she is not popular.

A few critical words from Siobhan and Royal would be finished. But for all her moodiness, Siobhan has yet to utter these fateful words. Some of the Firemane bigwigs, especially in the military, think of Royal as a court favourite who gets attention by sleeping with Siobhan and think she is a vain, frivolous and self-important fop. Firemane Vice President Kaylah Danton and Royal have a rather poor working relationship. Kaylah is an ambitious, self-confident woman who would like the top job and is thus a rival for the Chiss, who has often tried to undermine her. They have to be cordial to one another in public, but it is a very frosty sort of cordiality that just about conceals how much they detest each other.

By contrast, Royal gets on quite well with Vivian, Firemane's Dahomian Director of Comunications and public relations expert. The two have often worked together on projects and often jointly brief Siobhan. Shazora likes her, but does not trust her much. Royal has always been helpful, such as when it comes to providing aid to former Qadiri slaves and veterans, but the Qadiri diplomat is reluctant to confide in her too deeply. Kuwahara, a former ISB agent and now the head of GRU, suspects Royal of ulterior motives and has asked Siobhan for permission to bug her quarters. Elpsis dislikes most of Siobhan's courtiers and Royal is no exception. The Chiss is aware of this, but flatters the 'Young Phoenix' even more in a passive-aggressive way. Elpsis is barely at the residence, but Siobhan sometimes directs Royal to send messages to the young woman if she does not want to do it herself.

COMBAT INFORMATION
Weapon of Choice
: Pistols, bodyguards. Stun Pearl. Poisoner's Ring.
Combat Function: Royal is a bureaucrat, not a fighter. She has guards to the fighting for her, so she does her best to avoid combat. When threatened herself, her strategy is to perform a tactical retreat or, if that is not an option, draw a hold-out blaster or hold-out bolter, find cover and wait for backup. She can use a pistol or a vibroknife, but is a civilian, not a warrior. Fortunately for her, she is aware of this and will not risk herself in futile acts of bravura. This is pertinent since she would probably be a liability if she tried to do something stupidly heroic.

Strengths:

  • Decent enough shot with a Charric, pistol or holdout blaster/bolter.
  • Cautious and prudent. She knows survival is the better part of valour. Moreover, she is very resistant to mind tricks.
Weaknesses:
  • Civilian, not a soldier. Royal simply does not have the reflexes and conditioning of a trained soldier or martial artist. She is also not that strong.
  • Lacks the training and experience to go up against a heavily armoured opponent or Force-Users.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The stereotypical image of a Chiss is that of an Admiral who is a 'genius strategist' and a 'savant of warfare'. The suave Imperial Agent is another popular image. Royal does not fit into either of these categories. She was also not born as an aristocrat. Instead, she comes from the gutter. Her father vanished early and her mother had to work odd jobs to stay afloat. Though the Chiss are an oligarchy rather than a monarchy, their society is very stratified and regimented. People are expected to know their place and obey their betters. Royal started out dirt poor and grew up resentful of the upper classes. Lacking a formal education, she got lucky and was recruited as a maid for the household of one of the high aristocrats.

The head of the family was Admiral Brand, a Chiss blue blood of illustrious menage. He claimed to be a distant descendant of Grand Admiral Thrawn. His claim was dubious, but quite irrelevant. Contrary to popular belief, ability is not a product of genes. Thus Brand had not inherited his alleged ancestor's ability. Regardless, the Admiral was an authoritarian disciplinarian and a martinet. He was obsessed with rank, station and status. He did his best to imitate his supposed ancestor, including hiring a Noghri bodyguard. Ironically, this was one of the areas where he was smarter than the late Grand Admiral, for his bodyguard was a well-paid mercenary, instead of a servitor who had been duped into serving him. Brand served the Atrisian Empire, but privately resented being ruled by 'lesser men'.

Royal saw all the wealth and glamour, but also the haughty, arrogant people who had it all. Her own conditions were quite wretched and she was treated poorly by her employers, who regarded her as more of a serf than an actual employee. The Admiral's wife subscribed to the credo 'spare the rod, spoil the child'. Royal's life was a step up from abject poverty, as she had quarters and food from the household she helped look after, but she still had a difficult life of constant work and servitude. It was an isolated existence, as she saw very little of the outside world. She rose early at 5am and usually did not go to bed before midnight.

As a servant, she was under constant scrutiny. She lived in close proximity to the family, but was always reminded that she was not a member of it. Her employers felt they had the right to look through her meagre belongings. It was their purview to through her chest of drawers and make sure they did not contain anything objectionable. Brand's wife was a somewhat neurotic control freak who found the girl uppity. Ironically, the matriarch had been born a commoner and been adopted into a noble house. However, she compensated by being obsessed with rank, status and protocol.

She also saw it as her right to chastise an unruly child. Moreover, she insisted on 'no followers'. When Royal started a relationship with a boy who worked as a page, the matriarch had him sent away. At one point Royal grew sick, but she had to work anyway because otherwise her job would be at stake. That said, being a servant had its advantages. She lived in grand surroundings and was not destitute. But it was still a regimented, depressing existence. Her employers also did not want contact between the hired help and her family.

However, one of the children of the head of the family saw merit in her. His name was Braid and he was the second son of the patriarch. Ironically, his mother came to suspect that Royal was trying to seduce him. This would have been futile anyway since Braid was not interested in her, or in women in general, as he preferred the company of other men. Braid found that the girl was observant and had a good eye for detail. Servants were commonly treated as part of the inventory. Like pretty ornaments, they were everywhere, but rarely noticed.

Royal had a good memory and had a mind for gossip. Braid decided to put her mind to good use and educate her. When the matriarch of the household fired her in a fit of pique, Braid hired Royal. At first she worked as one of many secretaries, but her diligence and evident ambition caused him to promote her and she became an important member of his staff. Her employer wanted to advance his prospects and recognised the importance of information.

With his blessing, Royal established an information network of sorts, using servants in the households of the large clan. This was helpful since the family tree resembled a sprawling mangrove. This was helpful for digging up dirt on his rivals in order to advance his goals. Braid was a cynic who was contemptuous of the Chiss' xenophobia and isolationism. The two got along well and made a good team. He remembered the Klaxxi invasion and realised that Csilla could not stand on its own. Braid disliked his father, but saw him as someone on whose coattails he could ride. When the Atrisian Empire fragmented, Csilla became independent. Royal learned from Braid, who was outwardly respectful to his vain father, but fed his vanity to pursue his personal agenda. She won his confidence by unmasking a mole on his staff. She also turned out to be good at cooking the books. This proved useful when it came to concealing her boss' more illicit dealings.

However, his ambitions were thwarted by the coming of the One Sith. Having conquered Coruscant and vast swathes of the Core Worlds, they sought to claim Csilla. The Chiss had been a middle power, but could obviously not withstand a galactic empire. Nonetheless, Brand was one of those who wanted to fight. The admiral rallied his followers. However, while he was a good organiser, he was a poor tactical leader. His battle with a Sith fleet ended in abject defeat. Brand was able to escape, but his fleet was shattered. He blamed his defeat on subordinates.

Moreover, the battle spoiled the efforts of his son, who had been pretending to go along with the new order while making plans to clandestinely undermine it. Braid was killed by Sith Inquisitors. Royal was able to escape Csilla, joining a group of refugees fleeing the One Sith. Until this day, she had only rarely left the homeworld and never gone beyond the boundaries of the Chiss Ascendancy. She ended up in Republic space. This was an obvious place to flee to given the state of war between the Republic and the Sith.

However, the Republic was crumbling. Somehow, Brand had managed to make his way to Republic space as well. There he tried to convince Republic officers and government officials of his credentials as a genius strategist. Royal worked with a group of Chiss exiles. She showed her talents as an organiser and a bookkeeper. However, while she disliked the Sith and resented the death of her employer, she was not interested in returning to Csilla to fight a war to bring back the old days. To her, the old system was one where she had been kept down.

The fact that many Chiss aristocrats had adjusted so well to the new regime only seemed to validate this belief. That was her point of view. The Republic and its Jedi did not inspire her. For a while she found work with the Republic, but she was soon on the lookout for opportunities. She set her eyes on Firemane Industries, a megacorporation run by noted Sith enemies. Her former employer had occasionally done business with them.

Unlike the Republic, Firemane made no pretense of being a democracy. Its leader was a Dark Jedi had a more direct leadership style. They had money and power. Royal applied for a job. Using all her charm and natural wit, she managed to talk herself into an interview with Siobhan Kerrigan. Royal had prepared herself as well as she could for the interview. She did not have a lot of money, but dressed well. Moreover, she stressed her low class background, work ethic and the revulsion she felt for Sith. She undoubtedly embellished a bit. Royal did not like Sith at all, but they were not a personal enemy for her.

She also did her best to flatter her prospective boss. Siobhan probably saw through the brownnosing, but recognised her use and hired her. At first Royal worked in the Supply section. There she served as an aide for the department head. Mikayla Tarrant was a former Omega Protectorate bureaucrat and businesswoman. She was good at her job, but corrupt. Royal ratted on her boss after irregularities started showing up. The department might have produced a certain number of tanks, but one would be labelled defective and scrapped.

However, this tank had never been produced and the cost went to a secret bank account. It was fairly small scale and not enough to raise suspicions, but Royal noticed and investigated. She found there was a nice little embezzlement ring among certain members of the production bureau. Royal was offered a big kickback but saw reporting as more beneficial to her career because she could be noticed. She pretended to take the bribe while wearing a wire, so that she could get evidence from the boss, as Mikayla had been good at covering her tracks and pinning the blame on underlings. Siobhan had the corrupt department head punished, but was pleased with Royal. Subsequently, she recruited the Chiss for her personal office.

Royal recognised early on that while Siobhan was a very powerful and wealthy woman, she had something of an insecurity stemming from her past. Thus she surrounded herself with pomp and majesty. This was something the Chiss could use to finally achieve a position of significance. Thus she hitched her waggons to the Firemane matriarch and never looked back. In the time that followed, Royal made a concerted effort to separate herself from her origins as much as possible.

When it was convenient for her, she would play up the fact that she had come from the gutter like Siobhan and Tegaea and struggled against the pettiness and arrogance of overmighty nobles. But she wanted to join the elite and show off her success, taste and fashion. Outwardly Royal was loyal to Rukana Hessa, her boss and the Chief of House. Rukana was an old war buddy of Siobhan, having served the Protectorate as a combat pilot. She was a sycophant who worshipped her boss, but could not keep up with Siobhan. Moreover, she had a weakness for liquor, which impaired her judgement. Royal professed loyalty, but did her best to undermine her boss behind closed doors. At the same time she made herself indispensable. Royal combined attentiveness to Siobhan's whims with administrative skill and the ability to flatter. No task seemed to trivial for her and she worked like a horse. Unable to see that her own position was being usurped by Royal's machinations, Rukana backed her subordinate, for she hoped that she would one day benefit from the improved status of her office.

Royal did her best to be as close to Siobhan as possible. Royal started accompanying Siobhan on trips and gained authority over her secretarial staff. She noted that Siobhan liked to sleep around, so she selected secretaries who would catch the lady's eye. It did not take long for Siobhan to take Royal to bed with her as well. Her skill as an accountant and bookkeeper earned her the responsibility of managing Siobhan's personal finances. She also assumed responsibility for organising big events such as parties. Finally, Siobhan dismissed Rukana from her service after an argument. Royal was made Chief of House in her place. This was a promotion, but also a salient example to the Chiss of what could happen to her if she did not meet her boss' expectations.

However, Siobhan's military adjutant Brakana, an old hand from the Pyre days, disliked her strongly. Royal was outwardly polite, but soon started to intrigue against adjutant, who was trusted by Siobhan, but less adept at office politics. Nonetheless, Royal's remit was largely restricted to her boss' personal affairs, though Siobhan's autocratic leadership style meant that the private and the public often overlapped. The Netherworld Event solved the problem, as her rival was raptured, but Royal was not. The Chiss was one of the few Firemane officials who did not disappear during the rapture and were left to pick up the pieces and try to keep the company running in the absence of their boss. Royal was able to survive the violent riots that broke out on Kaeshana, and bickered with Sergeant Freya Solveig, who had temporarily assumed command at Firemane headquarters during the chaos. Freya had no time for court favourites.

The coarse, gruff soldier did not acknowledge her authority and was openly contemptuous, treating Royal as another pen-pusher and lackey of the boss. Freya hated the Chiss for what she was and what she stood for on principle. The soldier had various extremely vulgar nicknames for her that cannot be repeated in polite company. Royal bristled at being sidelined. However, though the situation was dire and her bosses had vanished, Royal elected to stick around and do her best to liaise with the scattered Firemane outposts and ships. She also acted as a temporary representative to the Eldorai court. This turned out to a sound course. When Siobhan returned from the Netherworld after having found her wife and daughter, she rewarded those who had remained true to the flag.

Royal remained at Siobhan's side in the days that followed, dealing with issues such as the discovery of Arkas and Tygara and the Eldorai Exodus. She acquired status and wealth, but also faced a rival who could not be dislodged so easily. Her name was Kaylah Danton, an old hand in Firemane who had worked with Siobhan and Tegaea since the days of the Protectorate. Outwardly both women were cordial to one another, but it was an icy form of cordiality that barely concealed their distaste for one another. The Eriaduan career bureaucrat was a straight talker, had an indefatigable work rate and was experienced in office politics. Her willfulness made her difficult for Siobhan to work with, yet she could also not do without her.

Increasingly, Siobhan expected subordinates to treat her like a queen. This was a tendency Royal encouraged by feeding her boss' ego and encouraging her to be suspicious of those who did not show her proper deference. Although Kaylah made some compromises to advance her career, she was unwilling to bow and scrape. As a result, she acquired rivals among some of Siobhan's new favourites. Royal rejoiced when Kaylah fell out of favour and was dispatched to act as Firemane's chief administrator in the territory of the newly conquered Xioquo, 'advising' the vassal Queen Liavondra.

This was a rather undesirable post with many pit falls and interpreted as an exile. However, Kaylah did very well in her new position, using her own brand of administrative efficiency, incorruptibility and common sense. She displayed courage when a war band of Kraal attempted a raid. In time, she returned to headquarters, where she once again occupied the Administration portfolio on the Board of Control. Royal was disappointed about this. However, the Chiss had also entered the inner circle.

A number of changes took place in Firemane after the Battle of Kaeshana and Tarissa Cadalthor's unsuccessful coup against the Eldorai Queen. Tegaea stepped down as joint CEO to focus on another project, namely her passion for exploration. By this point in time, her position had largely been ceremonial. Siobhan appointed herself Executive CEO and announced that she would be appointing a Vice President. As she put it, the Vice President would be the Prime Minister to her Queen. Royal had hoped that she would be promoted to this position.

She did her best to ingratiate herself with Siobhan and used her clients to carry out a form of lobbying. However, instead Siobhan appointed Kaylah. Siobhan liked Royal well enough, but considered the Chiss unsuitable for such a position. This left Royal rather disappointed. The elevation of her rival angered her. In time she would conclude that being placed in such an exposed position would have left her open to the barbs of her rivals. As Siobhan's secretary, gatekeeper and factotum, she could always plausibly state that she was just executing and transmitting her boss' wishes. This would not be the case if she was in charge of managing the whole bureaucratic apparatus.

With Siobhan focusing her efforts on supporting the Galactic Alliance's war efforts against the First Order, Kaylah was given significant responsibilities on the domestic front, chairing a number of board meetings in her chief's absence. She implemented some administrative changes to streamline Firemane's bureaucratic apparatus, shifting personnel, amalgamating or dissolving departments. In some cases she overstepped her bounds. Royal kept the chief abreast of any changes and Siobhan reversed a number of changes her vice had made, though at times Kaylah had the impression that the Lady was just displaying her dominance. However, many of her reforms remained in place. Indeed, Royal's intrigues backfired a bit since her relationship with Siobhan deteriorated. The boss was fighting and was not interested in office politics.

Moreover, Siobhan's health had suffered from all the injuries her body had sustained and the physical trauma she had put it through decades of fighting. A heart condition made her irritable, abrasive and irascible. Her subordinates had to tread carefully around her. Shortly before the start of the Contingency's somewhat strange incursion, the Lady had a stroke. Her doctors were able to save her life, but she was left infirm and suffered from memory loss. There was speculation that she might die or step down, opening up the succession question. Tegaea and Kaylah assumed a caretaker role, while Siobhan retired to Arkas to recover. The fact that her management team was able to run Firemane in her absence pleased her, yet also left her suspicious. Kaylah had her own staff and little time for Royal, though she could not fire her.

Royal followed her chief to Arkas. Indeed, the villa Siobhan spent her time in was commissioned by her. She arranged for it to get a large pool and had the communications equipment upgraded so that Siobhan could better remain abreast about what her company was doing. She also provided her lady with new attendants and tried to boss the doctors around. This did not go well with Doctor Osway. However, Siobhan resumed her affair with solicitous Chiss. Soon Siobhan started reading official reports again. Royal was always there to organise her paperwork, summarise events and press reports. Her role as a gatekeeper was reaffirmed. The chief soon took the reins of power again, asserting her role as the 'queen of fire'; a development that pleased her Chiss majordomo.

When the elf leaders of Tygara grew concerned about possible galactic affairs, Firemane convened a summit aboard the Arx Aeternae. Royal was responsible for organising the event as well the banquet and press conferences that followed afterwards. In that capacity she worked closely with Vivian, Firemane's Communications' Director, and Shazora, Siobhan's Qadiri diplomat and a new favourite. It gave her the chance to network a bit. At the summit it was decided that the elves would move into space and expand. Firemane would help them go off to colonise in the stars by providing them with advanced tech and leasing its arkships to them. Shahbânu Semiramis, the most powerful ruler of the Qadiri, had to pledge to abolish slavery, a practice that was common among her people. Kaylah was charged with overseeing the implementation of the agreement and ensuring that the elf leaders kept their word.

Royal did not have much of a role during the Tephrike campaign, as she was not involved in military affairs. She mainly acted as Siobhan's mouthpiece, affirming the rightness of her decision to punish the Dominion of Light for its treachery and the capture and presumed murder of her daughter Elpsis. Royal remains at Siobhan's side to this day.
