ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • A smuggling ship has to be fast. The upgraded NZ OS-HD3H Hyperdrive system has the Rubicon clocking in at .5 past light speed. The NZ SLAB-01 SubLight AfterBurner can be engaged to enhance sublight speed from very high to extreme, coming with a decrease in maneuverability from high to average while in use.
  • A smuggling ship also has to be nimble. The Rubicon is highly maneuverable on its own. The NZ AIMS-01 Active Internal Maneuverability System can be engaged to make the ship dance like a starbird, taking its maneuverability from high to very high, but coming with a decrease in speed from very high to high while in use.
  • Being fast and nimble is great, but it's best not to be detected at all. The Rubicon is equipped with a SE-717 Now You Don't stealth system to avoid scanners, and a Carbanti 29L electromagnetic countermeasures package with signal augmented sensor jammer to prevent detection of its exact location.
  • Smuggling ships get shot at. There is no way around it. The Rubicon is covered in reinforced titanium armor over a durasteel frame and equips a power shield amplified by a SE-151 Shield Force Multiplier to survive a little longer under fire. It also has a coat of ferrosphere paint to frustrate missile lock.
WEAKNESSES
  • The Rubicon isn't an attack vessel. It is not designed for continuous offensive action, and instead focuses on speed, maneuverability, and defense.
  • SLAB and AIMS are competing systems. As such, they cannot be engaged at the same time. Further, SLAB deceases maneuverability from high to average while engaged, and AIMS decreases speed from very high to high while engaged.
  • SE-717 Now You Don't stealth system cannot be engaged simultaneously with offensive measures, meaning no hiding when the lasers turrets start firing.
  • The signal augmented sensor jammer can prevent detection of the Rubicon's exact location, but use of the system will reveal the ship's general location.
DESCRIPTION
Every legendary smuggler needs a legendary smuggling ship. Han Solo had the Millennium Falcon. Dash Rendar had the Outrider. Pal Veda has the Rubicon.

The Rubicon started as a barely modified YT-2400 owned by the Devaronian entrepreneur Radix Kane for his contract employees to transport legal cargo, while the hotshots running the real credit-making goods below radar did so in their custom freighters. Veda quickly proved himself to be one of Kane's most skilled pilots, but he was young and broke, so he often found himself in the co-pilot's chair of other's ships instead of where he belonged. He struck a deal with Kane to take the Rubicon off his hands, the cost to come out of his cut of future jobs. Little did they know how profitable this would turn out for both of them.

Over the years, Veda slowly started adding modifications. First came minor upgrades to the engine, sensors, and navigation. Then a little more firepower, just to make sure he wouldn't be a sitting duck if pirates (or worse) happened to find him. Ferrosphere paint was an easy addition, and the Carbanti 29L system combined with the signal augmented sensor jammer would hopefully help him avoid space combat altogether. But the jobs got more dangerous, and the calls got too close.

The Spacer's League sought to eliminate some of that problem, bonding spacers, smugglers, bounty hunters, and the like to better defend themselves in the Outer Rim. Through the League, Veda met the wayfaring Jedi Master Coren Starchaser and was intrigued by the products Starchaser Enterprises offered. After a consultation with the elder explorer, Veda upgraded his shields with the SE-151 Shield Multiplier, offering a little more protection over the standard power shields. He also added the SE-717 Now You Don't stealth system as a compliment to the Carbanti 29L to try to stay off enemy radar completely. The Rubicon was quiet and hardy, but it needed more juice.

That's where N&Z Umbrella Corporation came in. A fellow spacer referred Veda for an upgraded reactor and hyperdrive system. Surprisingly, the NZ C.H.A.R.M.01 was compatible with the older YT-2400, giving it a little extra power for the more sophisticated systems running on board. That included the NZ OS-HD3H hyperdrive system, upgrading the current hyperdrive from .75 to .5 past lightspeed, with a 4.0 backup. When Veda went to pick up the new parts for installation, the representative passed on a personal recommendation from the proprietor Duke Tertius C. Nargath to add in the new NZ-SLAB-01 and NZ-AIMS-01 systems, easily powered by the NZ C.H.A.R.M.01. While they SLAB and AIMS systems compete for resources, meaning they cannot be used simultaneously and the use of one actually decreases the ship's other capabilities, Veda immediately recognized the benefit outweighed the costs for his purposes and gladly purchased the recommended additions.

Fully modified and customized, the Rubicon had finally reached its true potential. A legendary smuggling ship for a legendary smuggler.
