DESCRIPTION |
Designed to fill a role between that of a Dedicated Starfighter/Bomber and a Corvette - the Rugrus-class Heavy Gunship is meant to act more in a support role in terms of combat capability rather than a direct combat role. In this instance, it is often deployed from larger vessels when comprised in Squadrons - or singularly when on long-range missions - often to support Anti-Starfighter Corvettes and Frigates. Their primary weapon, a Dual H9 Turbolaser, is fixed in a forward position and provides a devastating weapon that can often make short-work of a Starfighter's defenses. However, its main drawback is its power consumption - which if fully depleted can render the vessel without its primary weapon, or worst yet, render the vessel itself completely powerless and dead in the water. This is often mitigated or carefully balanced with the vessel's L-41c Converter, which allows the Gunners to transfer power from the engines into the weapon directly to ensure that its power reserve is not depleted more rapidly. This though has its own downside which can often render the engines powerless, requiring a delicate waltz to maintain appropriate power levels in both the weapon and engines. However, it should also be noted that the vessel boasts an impressive array of weapons outside of its primary cannons, consisting of Ion Cannons, Torpedo, and Missile Launchers, as well as Auto-Blasters and Anti-Missile defenses. Even with it being heavily armed and armored for that matter, the Rugrus-class is surprisingly agile in terms of speed, due in part to its six Ion-based engines, which provides the vessel a means of potentially outpacing some of the fastest Interceptors in existence. However, in terms of maneuverability, you'd have better luck strapping engines on a barn and turning it on a dime than the Rugrus-class would of being able to perform a similar rapid maneuver. This can, in turn, limit its usefulness in a prolonged dogfight as it is rather more equipped to screen enemy corvettes or frigates away from Anti-Starfighter vessels - or utilized in the interception of slower-moving enemy vessels such as Bombers and Shuttlecraft. Even with these drawbacks in terms of its lack of maneuverability, low deployment count in regards to squadron sizes, and the energy consumption of its primary weapon - the Rugrus-class fills an important role that other Lastwall and affiliated organization's vessels lack or cannot properly fill. The Rugrus-class assists other vessels in their own missions, ensuring that Corvettes and Frigates have an additional heavy hitter to support their own complements in terms of Starfighter Squadrons or weapon load-outs. Likewise, the Rugrus-class can also be utilized as a heavy escort vessel - as it is capable of carrying passengers, albeit a limited number - though lacks the same capabilities as a dedicated shuttlecraft might. Still, with the Galaxy spanning Conflicts still posing a threat, the Rugrus-class is poised to become a more common sight in the galaxy. |
