Runners: The Ferryman's Glitter

TcDqVKI.png
Nuyen City, Atrisia several kilometers south of Jar'Kai. Nuyen's Shakatu district runs along the waters edge. Here is where most of Nuyen's economy comes from, shipping, and taxing those who ship through their waters and space. Shakatu is run down and has been in decline for awhile although somehow it still clings to life. Dotting the district are your typical signs of life, temples, businesses, food stands and residences.
After the events of Kal'Shebbol, Ria Misrani stops here to rest she hadn't planned on it but she received an invitation from someone who went by the name of Min Saigon. Said to meet her where the Seoulpa River met with Nuyen's harbors and that would be Shakatau, without any real sense of direction Ria decides to grab something to eat at a nearby tea room chain, 'Takoyaki Tea.'

Objective: Meet with Min Saigon

Walking into Takoyaki Tea, it wasn't hard to notice that Ria was well out of place but it found comfort in that she wasn't the only foreigner here. Had Min not provided the coordinates, the blonde slicer was sure that she'd have never known that this planet even existed. Takoyaki Tea is an up and coming chain ran by Sejong Hanbok, from the look of one side of his face, he looks pleasant enough at least on the photos that line the wall of Takoyaki's proud history. Sliding into a booth, Ria grabs the menu and is pretty sure she can't understand Atrisian and simply points to a photo of something that looks okay when the service droid arrives.

The service droid returns with tea and snacks, and Ria begins to eat. Things are quiet in the establishment her booth overlooks the gritty freight yard just across the way. Above Takoyaki's are residences of various qualities most of them no better than the other despite the advertisements saying otherwise. Neon signs begin to illuminate the darkened sky. It's not necessarily night but the pollution around Nuyen's Shakatu district is thick, most people here are use to it.

Growing up on Nar Shaddaa, Ria's become almost immune to poor air quality. Thankfully Takoyaki Tea boasts a good air filter. Just as she's getting ready to finish her snack the service droid returns and hands her, her bill. There's something else attached to this, though, a slim, almost translucent data card. There's a chip inside of it that much she can tell. Ria pays for her meal using her credstick that was given to her by Gigi. A burner stick that no one ever asks where it came from and people don't care so long as the credits are credits.

Slipping the credstick back into her blast vest, the blonde leaves Takoyaki's and finds herself back out on the streets. She waits with pedestrian traffic to cross the street, studying the translucent card in her hand. Squinting she can just about make out what it says. Choji Station, huh. Looking up just as traffic begins to move she scans around looking for Choji Station. Looking back down at the card as she reaches the opposite of Takoyaki she can see something else on it. Jar'Kai Transit, now she gets it this is a metro card to get around.. Wait. She was pretty sure that Jar'Kai was the city north of here, confused she sticks the card into one of her other pockets on her vest and keeps walking.

As she walks along Nuyen's Tsuchiya street she comes across another opening to the freight yard something which loosely translated into Duraworks. Ria doesn't make anything of it, not now anyway as she walks through the crowd. Her blonde hair stands out as does her light fawn colored skin, and blue eyes. Tucking loose strands of hair behind her ear she keeps going until she comes to a crossroads, Tsuchiya, and 8th. Ahead she sees a skytrain station, Jar'Kai Transit is beveled up and underneath it, Nuyen Metro. Which looked to be a subsidiary of the capital's transit authority. Shrugging her shoulders, Ria doesn't think it'd hurt to go up and have a look around. The girl from the Smuggler's moon trudges up what seems to be a mountain but in reality was roughly six flights of stairs to reach the first level platform. There's nothing of interest here just people waiting for the train but the metro map on one of the pillars is something that Ria takes note of.

Walking there she puts a finger on the little red dot that might as well say, you are here, at Tuschiya Station, level 1-platform 2. This line was simply called the blue line and ran a circle around Shakatu, there were express lines that ran parallel to each other and if she wanted to get to Nuyen's main line then she'd have to hit the blue line and then get off to take the green line that would get her as far as Atsukai, from there she'd have to take a grounder bus to get into downtown.

"Choji, Choji." She's whispering to herself looking for it but can't seem to find it. An older woman walks by and is looking over Ria's shoulders, and hears her say Choji.

The older woman taps Ria on the shoulder, "no Choji here. Choji been taken down, long, long time ago. You want Eungam. Take a blue line here, but you go to level two, third platform and then you take blue line all the way to red, you see the red?"

"Yeah, yeah I see it." No, but she'd figure it out and at least try to comprehend signage or else rely on the strangers around her. "So I'm going upstairs, and down to the third platform and Eungam is there?"

"No, Eungam is grounder station baby, but you take the red line there and then go down it'll be there." The older woman instructs and then pats the blonde on the shoulder. "Stay safe, Shakatu is not nice for a girl like you."

The feth? Ria thought to herself, as she simply waved a polite goodbye to the older woman. For a girl like me? What in the feth is that suppose to mean? Ria tried to not let that bother her as she found a set of stairs and went up to the second level. Walking a little ways until she came to the third platform, it seemed her timing was great as the train pulled up. Getting into one of the back cars, the slicer took a seat, it was another ten minutes or so before the train moved out of the station heading down toward wherever it was she was supposed to go.

She kept her hands in her lap and looked out the window as Nuyen's Shakatu district passed her by, and she noticed that Shakatu shared a great deal of border with the Seoulpa river. Sweet lekku it could take her all day to find wherever it was that Nuyen met with Seoulpa. Kark, should've just gone straight back to Naboo, she thought to herself but it was too late now, she was sitting here on a train going through this city that she had never been to before trying to find something she's never even heard of.

Thirty minutes go by and she's found herself where the red line meets with blue, and runs parallel to green. The lady mentioned that Eungam was a grounder station so it meant that she'd have to go all the way back down to the ground level, or street level as it were to find this station. It really felt like she was back on Nar Shaddaa in some cases only she could actually see the ground and feel it as she walked along the streets. Nar Shaddaa she was never quite sure what that was, as it didn't seem to matter how far down you went there was always somewhere you could go that would be further.

This part of Shakatu wasn't nice, so maybe that lady had a point, because if the part where Takoyaki Tea was, was considered nice. Then this place was an outright slumhood, where it was easy to get your hands on spice or anything else that might be considered illegal. There was some graffiti on the walls that read, Shakatu's Slot Town. Ria wasn't sure what that was supposed to mean, but if it was supposed to mean gritty, sinful, and outright dank then yes this was Slot Town.

"Fething abyss," She cursed putting her arm to her nose, "where the feth is Eungam?"

XdVCH2h.png

"You're standin' on it kinpatsu." A local says, "the entrance is down this way, I can help you there."

Ria looks at him and studies him for a second, she can see the tech on his neck and just below his eyes. "So it's an underground station?"

He scoffs, "yeah what did you think grounder meant?"

"Um." She really wants to say here on the ground, but she's not in her hometown of the Corellian Sector on the Vertical City and it's always best not to mess with the locals. "I don't know, but you said the entrance is down that way?"

"Names Kenzou." Ken introduces himself plainly, "listen it's really not a good idea for a sweet kinpatsu to be walking around out here all alone."

Ria recalls that she's got her stun baton and her blaster pistol and she knows that he should be able to see it. "Hey, Ken. I can take care of myself, appreciate the offer, though."

"Alright kinpatsu, your call. I'll be around the Slot." Ken turns and walks away from Ria, and Ria goes in the direction he pointed, she sees the signs for Eungam station and descends down the stairs. When she enters the grounder station the smell from above seems to be worse down here and no one else seems to bother. Homeless line the walls, trash is everywhere and all Ria can think of, "you can take the girl out of the slum, but you can't take the slum out of the girl."

knpKjDN.png

For all its lights and glam, Nar Shaddaa was a far cry from civilization at least as far as the core was concerned. She walked as far as she could walk passing by several platforms, and going through various crowds all saying the same thing, 'hey kinpatsu, anyo kinny girl.' Or something like that, cat calls, wolf whistles things she's heard before so it doesn't bother her much, but what does bother her is the inability to find Choji. She walks back in the other direction and now those same people are asking if she's lost, but she doesn't pay them any mind. Even as she crosses their paths for the third time, at some of them at least sound concerned. This time, she notices something on a wall it's faint, but you can still make it out. 'Choji.'

It feels like a dead end because there's nothing there, it's locked off, she sees it, 'Choji.' Written on the duracrete wall and behind her is another duracrete wall and then as she turns she faces a third wall, except there's something on this third wall. Feeling along her vest she pulls out the card the service droid had given her back at Takoyaki. She can make out a card slot and a piece of electronic that shouldn't be working, but as she slides the card in.

The wall that had 'Choji,' written on it opens. Looking behind her she can see that the locals are busy getting high, and so she takes the opportunity to slip inside. And here, she finds the air is a lot more palatable, taking in a deep breath she sighs. "Okay now to find where the Seoulpa meets Nuyen's harbors..."

Acaleus walked within the wall of Enryu Corp in Nar Shadda with his hands on his back. He was getting old, even tho he only had twenty five "Venus! Im going out. Watch the company for me" his pilot/secretary approach to him "Do you really think you can go out to the town tonight?" "I can take out a zombie Rancoor, i dont think its going to be a problem" said the assassin jumping while guards salute Venus "Lady, our engineers have a trouble they need you guidance" "Alright alright...and i wanted to rest in my bed" yawned while walking towards the laboratory.

He brought full equipment with him and his black assassin clothes for camuflage. With his sticky gloves he was able to climb only metal walls but it was all of what he need. Acaleus was now on the fifty floor of a building when he let go. The air flowing through his skin was the best feeling he could desire. Once the speed of the falling was increasing, he got close to the building and started both of his wrist lightsaber, stabbing the wall and slowing the fall, landing on a ledge. He was in the planet since a year now and the hole city was his own playground...except when he was in a mafia territory.

Four speeder cars flought at the height of Acaleus, putting lights towards him. A nautolan pointed him with a blaster pistol "Yo Acaleus. The deal was that you stay out of the Cavenecia district and..." the assassin force pulled the blaster, while creating a force shield. The first impacts wouldnt break it but once Acaleus saw a two handed blaster, he leap forward firing towards the driver of the car. A small battle was held for the right of the speeder, but once he turned his lightsabers, the Cavenecia mercs surrender. The others on the other car werent going to, so Acaleus took out his Skorpion Evo and unloaded the magazine towards the other cars, while raising a force shield. The battle prolonged for a few minutes but the force user took them out. He grabbed he nautolan by the neck, his shoulder was burned by a bolt "The only reason why your mafia is standing its because i made a deal with your boss. Now i desire this district once more" said throwing him to the car, with his death allies.

Acaleus came back from the hunt "Venus, lets get a ride to Atrisia" "Why?" "Bussiness. I got a Hutt by the name of Hector on that planet. If this go well, we can trade materials like diatium batteries" "Hey you got blood on your chest" said pointing out the red stain "Not my blood, lets go". Minutes later they were in hyperspace on the AT-120...

Sol turned to her " so what did it say? " he asked flipping a Iradonian omelet on the traditional Tattonian skillet.
"Just.. lemme see. ok . ' hay you guys meet me on this planet in on. ' seriously you and i need better contacts " She noted " I mean Mesan Igar is great and all but he is utter garbage at delivering information." she complained typing in a few coordinates.
" Eggs are ready. but that tandoshan Pepper is getting low we'll need to get more. any idea where this location is? " he asked passing over a plate.

Objective: Meet and Greet

Spending the majority of your life aboard a ship, even one big enough to hold a viable population for generations, means living with fresh, filtered air. People born on planets, or who only travel on ships for short durations don't understand just how much of a difference it is between ship and a planet's atmosphere.

Add in the fact that Nuyen City's atmosphere could hardly be considered air, and you have a situation where a man like Malcolm would be bent over, wheezing for oxygen.

He spent the first thirty minutes in such a state, until he got into a shop and purchased a respirator mask and air tanks. He took a few minutes to rig it up, snaking the respirator tubes underneath his knee length coat, settling the small air tanks on opposite sides of his belt, a handsbreadth behind each of his pistols. Beneath the jacket, he wears a dark grey sweater, and a pair of durable pants tucked into equally durable boots.

Mask fully in place, Malcolm moves along the streets, moving with the crowds away from where people saw him making a spectacle. He was here to make contact with an information broker. This one was one of the avenues that his former home had gotten information on the galaxy at large while they were off past the rim. First he was to make for a teahouse of some sort, named Takoyaki. Once there, if it was decided he was safe, he'd be given some sort of message on how to move forward. Otherwise, he'd be spending a long time drinking tea.

Location: Nuyen City, Atrisia
Allies: Shadows
Enemies: Potentially Everyone
Objective: Meet and Greet

It took Malcolm the better part of half an hour to find the teahouse. Cities did not work like starships, they were spread out amid so much space. Sitting in a booth with his back to a wall and easy lines of sight to both the front entrance and the kitchen, Malcolm was decidedly out of place. His coat was thick, dirty, and had obviously seen a lot of use. His breather mask was off brand, and he only took it off after testing the air quality using a pocket scanner. His hair was fairly tousled and he had a grease smudge on his cheek where he missed while cleaning the mask initially.

Despite all this, he seemed to be causing only cursory looks, almost as if the patrons of the teahouse were used to scruffians coming around.

The place had an automated wait system, so Malcolm input a quick order of green tea with honey and something that looked like a gooey rice ball. It was new, so he decided to try it. After only a few moments, the droid serving his table delivered his drink and treat. The rice balls looked and smelled delicious, and Malcolm said thank you to the droid before his mind caught up to the fact that it was a droid. He mentally shrugged, assuming that some circuit in the droid may appreciate the small recognition of service, then dug into the rice balls. They were so delicious that he couldn't help but vocalize it.

This did seem to draw some attention and ire, and Malcolm quickly quieted himself as he continued.

As he was finishing up, the droid returned and waited for him to pay, blocking his most direct way out of the booth as it did. Had he wanted to, he was pretty sure he could vault over the table and be out the door before the droid sounded an alarm, but he was here to make contact with someone, and ditching a bill wasn't the best way to make friends. To pay, Malcolm slotted a credstick. The stick had actually belonged to his grandfather, a man who had come from Atrisia and joined the generational ship through a series of nigh unexplainable events. Lucky for Malcolm, the design of cred sticks had remained unchanged on the planet in three generations, and the droid accepted the payment.

Before it moved away, however, the droid pinged Malcolm's comlink and uploaded a data file, then rolled away. Malcolm sat there a moment, dumbfounded, then decided to check it out. He pulled out a pair of sunglasses from his jacket pocket and slid them on. He hadn't needed them in the gloom outside, but they also doubled as an AR overlay connected securely to his commlink. He quickly partitioned the file he had received from the rest of his system, then opened it.

Keiji,

I didn't think you'd ever show your face on Atrisia again, chummer. The dust up with the constabs long nose made us have to move from the old store house. Constab sent ferrymen to try to bring you down, and the rest of us hid in the periphery for a long time. Be careful, the constab may still have noses out sniffing for you.

I've attached a few things that should get you back into the swing of things here, if you're staying long.

Malcolm sat back, looking at the message from someone with the moniker Dancer talking to his grandfather. He took a few moments, then put his breather back on and went outside, accessing the rest of the files in turn, and learning more about his grandfather by the second.

Where the Seoulpa river meets Nuyen's harbors, the phrase ran over and over in Ria's mind. She walked down this abandoned grounder line. It was dank, dark and honestly? Nar Shaddaa seemed a lot homier than this place, rodents the size of blaster rifles were scurrying about and Ria just kept walking. Not all the signs were legible and even less were illuminated down here, so she had to stop what seemed like every five minutes to read all the signs, and to try and navigate the maps.

Until she came to a map at least a couple of dozen metres from the 'secret,' entrance that got her this far. The map was your standard affair bolted into the ground with a little you are here marker and faded text both in basic and old Atrisian. She placed her finger along the clear plastique and marked where she had come in from which wasn't actually Choji! Unfortunately, this place is so old, she couldn't have made out the arrow above it and rest of the words that were meant to say. 'Choji Station, this way.'

Her jaw went slack as she took in a deep breath and exhaled. Choji Station was where the Seoulpa met the Nuyen. Just above Choji was where all the big fishing ships came into, but since the freight system had undergone a major overhaul there became less, and less traffic. Less traffic meant the need to keep Choji Station around wasn't there, and it was shut down but this allowed someone else to take over. In fact, as Ria took a step back from the map and looked across the tracks she could see it plain as day, a little information booth and metro kiosk. "Choji Station..." She said to herself and looked a little further down the tracks, there was a grounder car, sitting, and rotting underground.

It looked to serve as a bridge between this side of the track and the other, so she looked around. Out of habit mostly, and then walked down the track and into the car. As soon as she stepped into the car, the car locked. "What in the abyss," She whispered to herself and looked around there was no one here. Was this automatic? No, it was only automatic if was meant to be a trap.

NfcYiuy.jpg

"Flika? Isn't it?"

Ria immediately narrowed her eyes on the holo-projection, she looked up at the car's ceiling and saw it had been refitted for this purpose. "No one's called me that in a while," she answers.

"Forgive me then, my data on you seems... outdated. My name is Min Siagon," she introduces herself, "and I beg your pardon for the inconvience of being stuck in this grounder car, but I have to inspect everyone who comes through here."

The blonde remained silent, with a sullen expression on her face.

Min continued, "I've been watching your work with the Underground and I wanted to reach out to you."

"Lady, you could've called me, and instead of dragging me around halfway across the galaxy," Ria barked.

"Walk to the kiosk and insert your metro card, I'll see you soon, Flika."

The holo was disconnected and Ria kicked the ever loving poodoo out of the door just before it opened. Stomping out she crossed over toward the information booth. The metro kiosk was lined up against the wall opposite of the information booth there were a few benches here that at one time held patrons who waited for the grounder service. Crossing toward the kiosk she noticed only one kiosk was working, so she slipped the metro card into it.

A wall next to the information booth opened up and Ria, quirked a brow while walking toward it. Once she had crossed inside the wall closed up behind her. She took a few steps further and the darkness she had been acquainted with before seemed to give way, as little by little the light became brighter and brighter.

Graffiti lined either side of the hallway she was in. The hallway led into a large open space, and there before her was Min Siagon. Looking to her right and to her left she saw wall to wall this place was stacked, ready to perform any kind of operation this Min Siagon wanted. The more Ria looked around, the more she walked to examine the room. Of which, Min didn't even seem to mind, she looked as if she expected Ria to inspect every nook and cranny of this former stationed turned hideout. "Alright, what gives?"

"Have a seat on the sofa, Ria. I do not like repeating myself and so I'll wait for the rest of our group to gather here."

"Our group?" Ria questioned as she took a seat on a long, broken in, plush sofa that was a terrible shade of green. "What do you mean by our group?"

Min smiled, "you'll see soon enough, Ria."

Takoyaki Tea, that was different. Pony didn't really like tea, he was more of a water person. Ponyboy decided to try it anyway. The teen had received a menu from a service droid sadly the menu was impossible to read he just put it down and looked at the droid.

"Umm, a simple water will do." Pony said. He then waited, a few minutes later the service droid came back with his water. The boy nodded and took the water with a smile. He began to sip the water.

Ponyboy had no clue why he was even on the planet in the first place, the air quality was horrible for his daily running. But work was work. Pony was a courier, he would deliver packages anywhere, sadly the package was on this planet. The boy had received a order ticket that described the Teahouse he was in.

Soon after the teen had finished his water, the droid came back with something in it's hand, it was a card of some sort, Pony grabbed it from the droid and nodded. He then pulled out a journal wand wrote:

Package received at Takoyaki Tea.

The teen examined the card and noticed 'Choji Station' Pony looked back at the journal and continued:

Destination 'Choji Station'.

The teen closed his journal and put it away in his messenger bag. PNG sighed as he took the card and walked out the door. Looking around he had no clue where to go. He scratched his head.

"See what happens when I get an order for some stupid planet......where the heck in Choji Station." The teen said clearly annoyed. A local stopped and turned to him.

"I could lead you near it for some credits." The boy sighed, without help he would be lost forever. The teen smiled. "Lead the way, credits will be paid after you get me there." He said, the local nodded as he began to walk.

...

"This is as far as I go boy." The local said. Ponyboy nodded and handed him a handful of credits.

"Thanks" Pony said as he looked around. At least he was closer he looked around, there was a group of guys getting high near him, he continued to turn his gaze. Faded on a wall was the word Choji. The teen smiled as he walked towards it. Nearby was a card scanner, he slipped the card in, and the door began to open. The boy tilted his head as he walked in.

"They want their key back?" The boy wondered as he slipped the card back into his pocket and began to walk further into the station.

It was dark and creepy, Ponyboy sighed as he began to jog down the track, soon he would come upon a information booth.

"Um yeah, what time is your next transit?" Pony joked, he was about to walk away when when he noticed a kiosk was still working, he inserted the card and a wall began to shift.

"Wow they must really want their card back...it can magically open walls." He laughed as he walked in. Blinding lights appeared as he walked down the hall. Then the hall opened up to a large room with a woman sitting on a couch...and another near her.

"Wow.....just wow." Pony said as he slowly made his way to the duo.

"You probably want your key.....card...thingy back" he said as he reached into his pocket.

Corvus walked along an alleyway towards the transit station. A hood pulled over his head to hide his features, along with what he was carrying underneath the cloak. A note had been left for him when he'd traveled into the city back home on Serreno. He jumped ship when a smuggler he hitched a ride from got nipped by the customs agent at Atrisia's port for carrying contraband, which led Corvus to stealing his credit pouch and swiping the keys to a speeder bike. No one would suspect anyone of his size to be capable of these crimes, but his family was no ordinary one, this was standard issue training from mom and dad.

A key card had been left under a bench that he was supposed to rendezvous at inside the station, Corvus traced the card to a terminal. Once he inserted it, he was surprised to witness a false wall that lead into the station's underbelly.

At the end of the walkway, he stopped, witnessing a woman speaking to another woman on a sofa. He suppressed his Force signature and stayed quiet.
