Utilizing the designs of the Tammuz-an R-22 Spearhead, coupled with the knowledge they had attained by looking at various interceptors of the past, the pair - along with a daring pilot - set about to improve on what had come before. After several years, and various successes, the RZ-1 “A-Wing” entered the Rebellion’s service as their adopted, and primary Interceptor, at some point following the tumultuous Battle of Yavin. The records pertaining to this history are unclear, and as such, were unable to pinpoint the exact date at which the RZ-1 had entered widespread use within the Alliance to Restore the Republic’s armed forces.
However; shortly after the Battle of Endor and during the decline of the Galactic Empire thereafter, the A-wing had undergone a generational advancement as the Mark II had entered production, and service soon after.
This was where the history of the Chronos began.
Pushed into service after the Battle of Endor, the RZ-1 MkII that would eventually take the name of “The Chronos” drifted from Alliance Warship to New Republic Warship, as it’s pilots were replaced and rotated throughout the growing armada. It earned numerous battle honours over the years and was commanded by various commanders of note, before meeting its untimely demise during the Second Galactic Civil War. For nearly eight centuries, the wreck of the famed RZ-1 had remained preserved within the glacier surface of some long forgotten world, until disturbed by the galaxy-spanning war between the titanic forces of the resurgent One Sith and Republic forces. Found in the aftermath, along with the preserved skeleton of its former pilot, the Jedi Knight - Arcanus Sunstrider, carefully excised the crashed starfighter from it’s frozen grave and brought the vessel back from its enforced retirement to serve once again.
Using his status within the Republic Military, the newly dubbed “Chronos” had its systems and entire structure overhauled to the modern standard, so that the ancient starfighter would prove to be more than a match for various interceptors deployed during this newfound era. When the vessel was complete, and ready to embark on its first combat operation, the Galactic Republic had crumbled - and many of its Admiral’s had defected to other factions staking their claim in the great galactic game. This left the Jedi Arcanus adrift amongst the stars, as the religious body he had sworn himself to, was reviled by the masses for failing in their charge to defend the innocent and uphold the laws of the ailing Republic.
So, in the years following the Fall of Yutan and the Siege of Coruscant, the "Chronos" had become nothing more than an overpriced relic sailing atop the solar winds, as it’s owner searched for purpose - during the era dwindling of light.
