STRENGTHS
  • Interceptor - The RZ-5 maintains the lineage of its predecessors with its design remaining focused on speed and maneuverability.
  • Astromech Slot - Unlike previous A-wing variants, the RZ-5 was designed to include the capability to slot in an Astromech Droid to assist the pilot. This has seen a reduction in pilots losing control of the craft due to the temperamental J-77 Event Horizon Engines; as well as increased overall efficiency and operational capacity of the craft.
WEAKNESSES
  • Limited Deployment - The inclusion of an Astromech port in the design of the craft has resulted in an increase in its overall size. This increase in size has thus resulted in fewer of these crafts being deployed in a singular squadron due to the additional space required to support these Interceptors.
  • Minimal Defenses - As the design of the RZ-5 retained its focus on speed and maneuverability, other systems had to be sacrificed. This can be seen in the lighter armor plating and diminished defensive capabilities as the operator of the craft is expected to rely on its speed to protect itself.
DESCRIPTION
The RZ-5 Crynyd-series continues the long lineage of A-wing Interceptors that were first introduced during the Imperial Era and employed by the Alliance to Restore the Republic in its Starfighter Squadrons. Maintaining much of its original design aesthetic, where the RZ-5 differentiates itself from other A-wings is in the inclusion of an Astromech Slot which is missing from predecessor designs. The inclusion of an Astromech provides the pilot additional support in controlling the craft and has seen a reduction in pilots losing control of the A-wing due to its temperamental J-77 Engines. However, the inclusion of this Astromech Slot has seen an increase in the overall size of the craft, which has in turn resulted in a reduced number in which these Interceptors can be deployed.

Maintaining its focus on its speed and maneuverability has also resulted in the sacrifice of heavier defensive measures that are present in prior iterations or similarly sized Starfighters. Due to this decrease in defensive capabilities, mainly heavier armor plating, the RZ-5 is forced to rely heavily on its speed and maneuverability to overcome a threat during a prolonged dogfight or space battle. Though having sacrificed defense for speed and maneuverability, the RZ-5 retains a modest armament loadout that when coupled with its other capabilities provides the means to allow the craft to come out on top and continue flying.

As the need for additional Starfighters and Bombers continues to grow, the RZ-5 Crynyd-series provides the Galactic Alliance with a mass-produced Interceptor to further supplement its increasing and expansive Starfighter Wings. Its design and capabilities can be easily summed up as "Speed will Win the Day", a motto that many of those pilots that operate these craft hold tight to their chest as they scream through the stars.
