- One and Done: As a bow, the Sólarnál is incapable of containing more than a single "arrow" and must be pulled back again to generate another one, the process of which takes three agonizing seconds.
- Close Range: The comparatively long time needed to produce an "arrow" makes using the weapon in close range is inadvisable, as those three seconds can be more than enough for an opponent to close in or fire a shot of their own.
- Dangerous: To aim and fire the Sólarnál means handling unstable energy in close proximity to the face and body, meaning an experienced or sloppy user may very well lose digits or suffer serious burns if the bow is handled incorrectly.
- Premature Detonation: While the bow's mechanics allow the bolts to stay cohesive over distance, if the wielder holds their shot for too long after generating the bolt, it may detonate, likely causing grievous harm to the wielder.
- Very Conspicuous: A stark contrast to many bows, the Sólarnál is loud and bright like a blaster, making it very difficult to use stealthily. This is a weapon made for open warfare.
DESCRIPTION
The Sólarnál, or "Sun Needle", Particle Bow is an energy bow created and utilized by Clan Galaar and is perhaps the ultimate expression of unity between the old style, low-tech culture of the Valkyri and the technologically advanced culture of the Mandalorians, serving as the perfect symbol for the Clan. Devised by Jiriad Galaar after seeing Nightsister energy bows in action, the Valkyri smith saw such a weapon as perfect for his clan, and began designing immediately. Some in the Clan believe Jiriad was blessed by Teign when designing the bow, as the final result is an incredible sight to behold.
The Sólarnál operates on very similar principles to the Nightsister energy bow, but rather than pure plasma the bow fires high-power particle bolts, typically unstable but forged by the bow's generator into "arrows" that maintain their cohesion over long distances. When the wielder pulls the plasma-generated "string" back, a particle bolt is formed over a three second period, after which it may be released. When fired, the Sólarnál produces a bright flash of orange energy and a loud noise somewhere between a crackle and thunder, similar to the noise made by two lightsabers locking up against each other, as the bright orange bolt crackles forth "splitting the sky" to bring high-power death to the clan's foes.
The arrows created by the Sólarnál are frightening indeed, exploding violently when they impact a solid object, and have already been used against great beasts in Kestri's wilds to great effect. The bow's unstable energy is dangerous to use and it takes a certain kind of warrior to hold unstable particle bolts mere inches from their body, but after seeing it in action few can doubt its power. Even those wearing heavy armor should run for cover when they find a Sólarnál pointed at them, for they may have but three seconds left to live.
