After the Stormtrooper Bill of 902ABY established the 0 Legion, unofficially 'Null Legion', there was a new need for a mass produced trooper armor that could be cheap but effective for their needs. Turning back to the tried and true, the Economic Council of the Sith Empire bid contracts to private entities, but eventually settled with a more close to home design. The Sith Engineering Corp put a bid in for the rights to design and produce the armor, with a twist.
The armor would not skimp on its need for weight, ballistic, or energy protection. Relying on the product designers hired from Jaeger Solutions, the armor was built on the culminative success of hundreds of armors and components before it. Yet that alone would not make the armor cheap. It was made cheap through a revolution in pattern design, allowing whole pieces to be electrically built en masse within a liquid medium full of materials necessary to produce the plates. Equivalent plates were more time consuming, even with most modern factories, but the Sith were never so good as they are when it comes to war.
While naturally dark, the armor is coated in a protective paint that prevents corrosion. It does not hold metal, but rather synthetic plastics designed to have an exceptional hardness and energy window. This allows the trooper to take multiple shots from a blaster or kinetic round without fail, though this is not universal. The angular plates allow bullets to avoid critical infrastructure, but the kinetic underlay is more prone to breaches. This is, unfortunately, where design becomes its own enemy.
To both maintain the lightness, and the protection of the armor, there is not a full exo suit capable of tanking all damage from every spot. There are key weakpoints that are not hidden. The neck, where the arms connect, leg joints, inside of elbows. These places did not have the same protection to make the utility of the armor all the more present. As a result, the armor does not have any form of 'power' capacity, in the sense that it augments the users strength or capabilities. Rather, this is made up with the high tech designed plates simply being lighter - to allow a more natural feel to the troopers, cutting down on the learning curve powered armor would introduce.
Meant to inspire fear, the armor has red lenses regardless of the helmet pattern, and a voice modulator that translates their words into a garbled, bassy mess. Other troopers armors are able to translate this speech in real time, but allows for covert discussions amid an otherwise populated area. Additionally, the armor is painted with a variety of paint markers to signify their individual Corp within the Null Legion. The standard pattern is red accents, with a red, leather shoulder plate to signify veterans. Additional use of a kama is given to those with distinction or rank, and in very rare cases they are even allowed pseudo light sabers through the use of plasma filament swords - left exclusively for the most skilled among them.
It is not uncommon, however, to see troopers with prayer seals on their armor. Where once, men carried medals into battle to show their skill to the enemy, the Sith troopers and conscripts use prayer seals to signify their deeds and empower them. Most seals are not actually able to do anything besides give them hope, but in rare cases they are given a reinforced seal capable of saving their lives: if not brutally raising them from the dead to continue to fight.
Data uplinks and high tech options allow the armor system to integrate with battlefield command networks run, for example, by the Sith Empire's Super-AI "Typhojem". When deployed in the streets during garrison operations, their video uplink allows the AI model to detect criminals in real time against a long dossier of known or suspicious persons. This allows for the domestic deployment of the Legion to root out heretics, rebels, or anyone that would threaten the sanctity of the Sith Order and its rise to power.
Grouped together, the armor is able to feed a miniture network between eachother so that even squads can have highly encrypted, real time connections to their brothers in arms. From hud views, life signs, or aim guidance, the armor is advanced enough to make a far better soldier out of a below average man. Through these connections, soldiers are able to even track enemies others see with their helmets through walls, or track their own soldiers without sight. A variety of vision overlays, tactical options, and carrier packages make it more than just multipurpose, but vehemently useful in all situations.
For this reason, and built on its exceptional pedigree of design, the S-9a was named after
Kaila Irons
, the proposer of the bill that would create the Null Legion. With her name on everyone's lips, the Null Legion has been deployed across the Empire to reinforce the war fronts, both domestically and abroad.

- Mass Produced Excellence:
- Building on the pedigree of its design, the S-9a is able to function as a powerful, multipurpose armor that can be deployed quickly and effectively on numerous battlefields. With its imposing look, carefully designed systems, and mass production, the S-9a will serve as the new face of the Sith Legions support, carefully deploying across the Galaxy to strike fear into their enemies hearts.
- Cutting Corners:
- To keep costs down, the armor is not as fully covering as previous models, rather it focuses its protection on harder, mass produced plates. Inbetween these is a relatively easy to breach underlay that is more meant to protect the soldier from the stray shot (not including the bruising that comes with it) or environmental factors. While it can't survive for long, it is able to be deployed in a large variety of environments, but this does not allow it to stop the thing it most likely should - enemy ammunitions.
