SPECIAL FEATURES
- The S-series Droideka or Destroyer Droid is a modernized variant of the Q-series; it's been explicitly designed to be a weapon of war, a roly-poly ball of death that can quickly unfurl to reveal two twin blaster cannons and lay down heavy firepower. With a powerful combined particle-energy shield and correcting some of the weaknesses of the old Droideka, it has become a more lethal, though still costly, option of warfare for those preferring the cold bite of durasteel to the living warmth of organic flesh.
- The S-series Droideka is a particularly vicious war/battle droid - correcting the weaknesses (at least, some) of its predecessors, it now can navigate stairways as well as climb up walls and surfaces via magnetic feet, making it no longer forced to be on level ground. Additionally, boasting incredible firepower for its size, as well as more accurate weapons systems with very little chance of overheating, a longer-lasting internal charge, and a more powerful combined particle-energy shield generator (and strengthened plating/chassis), it's definitely menacing. Its sensorrs have been upgraded to utilize the infrared range as well as being radiation sensors (and improved targeting/sensory capabilities, which allow for better coordinated and more accurate weight of fire), and it can swivel its arms inward more to target closer targets. But most impressively of all, it can still roll and still retains its iconic rolling sound.
- Cost is one such factor - while a bit over one point four that of the Q-series Droideka, its modernized state means it is not reverse-compatible with prior lines of Droidekas, forcing both a more expensive front cost in addition to purchasing parts long-term from the manufacturer. Additionally, it still is slow, its shield still can let slow-moving objects or sentients pass through, and it has not received any increase in intelligence or thinking capacity. It also has no close combat ability, and the S-series Droideka is particularly not easy to traverse with up stairs still. It may have finally conquered them as an overall challenge, but it is still a slow, tedious process. Also, it is still a Droideka and thus isn't modular/configurable for other roles easily.
The S-series Droideka was born out of both a want and a need. Ank Dec, in particular, wanted to ensure a modernized Droideka line was particularly committed to, especially given the fact that the Colicoid Creation Nest was always seeking to offer both new products and those of older, modernized, upgraded lines. To this end, the Q-series Droideka was modernized and updated - and while it still is primarily similar to the Q-series Destroyer Droid, improvements have been made to correct some of its issues. Overall, though, it's a successful, if pricy, line, and the Colicoid Creation Nest is certain it will receive buyers for its products soon enough.
