- 840.z Holo-Targeting Suite: In conjunction with the targeting computer, the 840.z Holo-Targeting Suite allowed improved accuracy for firing at the selected targets. This was needed to balance out the amount of missile targets it acquires and so much so, it required two of these to be installed. (x)
Life Support
- Overwhelming Firepower: Being able to fire 144 missiles at once, all guided to their targets makes the Sal Kar Turret very dangerous. In addition to new updates, it can also fire around itself with its side missile launchers, improving chances of survival.
- Multi-Missile Loading System: If different missiles are used, it catalogs them and makes sure to load them by the order of the user interface. This makes it extremely useful when firing a certain section of missiles at a select target.
- Multi-Targeting System: It can target up to 144 individual target from sight alone though requires verification from various crew operators on the Sal Kar Walker.
- Bombardment Shield Generator: Due to the nature of its payload and the previous bombardments on older models, it has been updated with a DSS-02 Shield Generator, making it much less likely to be destroyed from orbit.
- Dome Shield Generator: Like the model it was based on, it produces a dome to which one can walk through to destroy the Sal Kar Turret. While great on the outside, go through the dome projection and it can easily be destroyed with sustained firepower.
- Unmovable: It cannot move and cannot be transported, stuck with all the electrical power grids attached to it.
- Target the Extenders!: When the Sal Kar Turret extends the top when extended for firing, it exposes the DSS-2 Shield Generator, making it a valuable target for destruction. Destroying it not only stops it from firing its long range missiles but will also destroy all shield capabilites.
- Need for Constant Power: It is attached directly into the main power grid, if it gets disrupted, the Sal Kar Turret stops working.
- Volatile Payload: Piercing the shell into the ammo compartment can cause a chain reaction to where the entire Sal Kar Turret would implode, destroying itself.
With the Byrn'adul moving closer towards the planet of Nar Shadda, Haon Hafey implemented the upgrade plan for aging Sal Kar Walkers into a new design, the Sal Kar Turret MK II or just Sal Kar Turret for short. A massive mainstream difference was that the walker legs were not to be used for moving, rather to be used for a feeding source of missiles to be transported safely from underground into the Sal Kar Turret itself. While still massive and something to not be understated, it has had some updates.
One of the largest upgrades was the shield generator. Formerly a bombardment was good enough to destroy one in one fell swoop, now a proper DSS-2 Shield Generator was installed to prevent it from being destroyed outright in a bombardment strike. Only issue was that it produced a dome like structure around it where things can move through it unlike the old design to where it wrapped around the Sal Kar models. In addition, it was installed into the main extender to save space for more missile storage as the previous model did not have enough of it.
Another large problem was now the constant need of electrical power. They ate a lot of power to operate as it required many computations for targeting data along with the additional missile capacity on the sides now that are able to fire onto infantry and some light to medium vehicles. Another glaring issue that has not been addressed is a proper storage system to where if a missile is struck from the inside, it does not chain reaction destroy the rest of the Sal Kar Turret. Something Haon had tried to find a fix for, but have failed to do.
On the eve of the first test from yet another abandoned vehicle left during his days in Black Sun, Haon Hafey watched as it fired all its missiles at once in an emergency test and decided that perhaps it needed one last upgrade. Adding in the Seismic Missiles as an option, he knew it would be risky but perhaps for desperate times...it comes for desperate measures.
