- City Name: Although the official name of the city in Wan’ante is Saltühn’unshatwatne, the city is commonly referred to both in Wan’ante and Galactic Basic as Saltühn.
- Classification: Capital City
- Location: Ra’Katha, on the shore of the Shimmering Sea
- Affiliation: Saltühn is under the primary influence of the Kemotat Rommer, an ancient and powerful house within the Dejoka’ar race. Saltühn also has minor connections to Te’mansoa Industrial Works, owing to the fact that the current leader of Kemotat Rommer, Bastille Rommer, is also the chief executive officer of the mining corporation.
- Population: Heavy
- Demographics: The primary demographic of Saltühn are the Dejoka’ar, a race of olive-skinned humans who speak a dialect of Huttese and Wan’anteen
- Wealth: Medium -- while there are certainly many who hold exorbitant amounts of wealth in Saltühn, primarily the Kemotat Rommer, there are far more living on the galactic poverty line or below it. While this is partly due to the standard of life being much lower than that of more-developed planets, it mainly stems from the fact that much of Saltühn’s population is simply poor. Even the Saltühn middle class, mostly made up of merchants from nearby cities and those who trade their craft in the Bazaar, are poor by galactic standards.
- Stability: Medium -- While there is the guard of the Kemotat, enforcing a certain level of regulation on the city, it is always wise to be armed when exploring Saltühn, especially the further you journey from the palace. With many taverns, large and noisy bazaars, and other sorts of unpleasant shops, it’s easy for the unwary to get a nasty surprise. At the very least, the chance of rioting or rebellion is minimum; behavior such as that is strictly not allowed.
- Freedom & Oppression: While some might call it freedom, some would call it freedom with a tinge of anarchy. The primary concern of the Kemotat guard, the only sort of thing that resembles a police force in Saltühn, is to keep the Kemotat safe and the city free of insurrection. That means that common thievery, murder, and fights often go unnoticed, or take a lesser priority.
- Description: Saltühn is a city of mystery and intrigue, with the bright colors of the bazaar and buildings nestled up against the coast of the Shimmering Sea mingling with the noises of haggling merchants and dark, damp taverns. The grand palace of the Kemotar looks down on the entire city, and roads vary between finely-paved to barely more than tracks in a mud, with taverns, shops, merchants, and caravans that create the unique lively atmosphere that makes Saltühn the mysterious city it is.
- Karivatte | Shorefront: Where water and sand meet, the shorefront of Saltühn has turned into a harbor full of sights, smells, and sounds. Native birds squawk and near-ancient sailships pull into the archaic harbor of the great desert city. Colorfully-painted walls and buildings line the shorefront, with small fronded trees dotting the landscape here and there. Merchants from neighboring villages and cities throughout the Shimmering Sea dock here to unload their wares, and much of Saltühn’s poor live in hovels outside the city gates, fishing on the wharves for a living. However, in the nicer parts of the shorefront fancy piers line the waterfront, where people may stroll to take a view of the beautiful sea that Saltuhn is nestled against, or enjoy a drink in one of the many taverns lining the sandy beaches of the Shimmering Sea.
- Uoko Bazaar | Great Bazaar: Lively and colorful, the Bazaar is often referred to as the center of Saltühn, in both commerce and livelihood. Merchants from across the planet, and even from further than that, come to Saltühn to sell their wares in brightly-colored stalls thrown up against narrow streets. Canopies of silk and satin shade vendors as they haggle and hawk, and it is said that almost anything can be purchased in the great Bazaar of Saltuhn if you know where to look. From spiced meats, casks of Ra’Kathan wine, or silks so smooth they feel like liquid tumbling through your fingers, the Bazaar of Saltuhn has them all and more.
- Qasrseh'Dawan ce'Saltuhn | Saltuhn Medical Facility: Commissioned by Bastille Rommer, the Saltuhn Medical Facility features state of the art technology and high patient capacity, to the point that its designers boasted it could treat all of Ra'Katha and still have room left over. While that may be an exaggeration, the Saltuhn Medical Facility is still leaps and bounds more advanced than any previous medical facilities on Ra'Katha and is well equipped to deal with any sort of health crisis or the normal day-to-day afflictions that may plague Ra'Katha.
- Coperr Sharin | Coperr Street: If at the Great Bazaar one can find almost anything, then Coperr Street is where one can satisfy the most exquisite of tastes, with the finest taverns throughout Ra’Katha located on its winding cobbled roads as it makes its way straight from the shorefront to the Palace of the Kemotat. Stores of fine silks and jewelry are also found on Coperr Street, along with the wealthy of Saltühn intermingling with the rougher denizens of the great Ra’Kathan city. Be careful, though; although heavily patrolled, Coperr Street is also known for brawls, riots, and murders that can happen quickly if you’re not careful; a side effect of a road with too much access to strong Ra’Kathan alcohol.
- Minatmoseh ce'Ra'Katha | Ra'Katha Spaceport:
- Ranzaar Horadi Botorr | Ranzaar Pit: Fighting in the pits is considered a great honor for the people of Saltühn, and even more so for those that duel on the sandy arena of Ranzaar Pit. Named for the fabled pit-fighter Ranzaar from the days of the Rommer Empire, two massive golden statues of fighters with curved swords interlocked tower over the entranceway into the arena, proclaiming the honor and worthiness of those who participate in the fighting. The stands over the arena pit are large enough to hold twenty thousand, with three levels of seating determined on how much a visitor is able to pay; the lower seats being much more expensive than those higher up. Raised boxes circle the arena, to hold those wealthy and powerful visiting the Ranzaar Pit, each with a massive sconce and flame. The Kemotar's box, situated in the cetner right over the gate into the pit, holds two sconces and is situated in a spot where the acoustics are just right for the Kemotar to be able to address the entire crowd. The spectacle that arena fighting is, fights are held almost daily in the Ranzaar pit, and nobles and commoners alike from across Ra'Katha journey to experience the excitement, the bloodshed, and the glory.
- Kemotat Palace: The grand palace of the Kemotat is the ruling seat of Kemotar, sitting at the top of Saltühn as it overlooks the rest of the city. With large halls, luscious gardens, and riches beyond imagination, it is truly a palace for a King. The Palace has been built up over hundreds of years, using the finest sandstone, marble, quartz, and other materials that Ra’Katha has to offer. The main hall of the Palace is hundreds of feet tall, with massive columns that lead to the dais of the Kemotar. Balconies from high towers look out onto the rest of the city, with a view all the way to the Shimmering Sea. It is truly the palace for a King, or in this case, a Kemotar.
SECURITY: MEDIUM -- While Saltühn isn’t the most regulated of cities, it does boast the Kemotat Guard, which keep rioting and murders to a low, although unless you’re rich and powerful enough to buy your own security, you are not guaranteed to be unmolested in Saltühn. Bar fights along Coperr Street are common, and thieves infest the Bazaar, forcing visitors to keep a close watch of their pockets. But for those who are apt at defending themself, Saltühn should be no problem.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Saltühn is by no means one of the older cities in Ra’Katha, a planet that is notorious for old cities. Originally a village of fishermen and traders nestled against the Shimmering Sea, the conquering Kemotat Rommer turned the small trading village into the mighty capital of its planet-spreading Empire, bringing riches and peoples all across Ra’Katha. Yet during the great galactic darkness that swept through the galaxy as the Gulag plague took the lives of millions, the ports of Saltühn closed one by one, until Ra’Katha itself was completely cut off from the outside galaxy. Soon, even the great Rommer Empire failed, breaking into many small kingdoms as Saltühn was all that was left of the former glorious nation.
Now, centuries later, Saltühn stands as a relic of a brighter time, with awe-inspiring architecture and markets that still link much of the former Rommer Empire in trade and culture. Easily the largest city in Ra’Katha, it’s chaotic streets, spiced air and sand intermingling through it all gives it a unique persona that no other city in the galaxy can offer.
