- City Name: Salyrini
- Classification: Underground Metropolis
- Location: Sarka
- Affiliation: Silver Jedi Concord
- Population: Heavy
- Demographics: The vast bulk of Salyrini's populace are native Sarkans (92%). A number of offworlders, primarily humans and near-humans, involved in importing goods or exporting nova rubies form most of the rest city's population.
- Wealth: High. Salyrini is the capital city of Sarka, and consequently there is always a steady flow of credits being spent by government institutions that is being pumped into the local economy, whether its buying the latest tunneling machines to further exacavate the cave networks of Sarka or simply accomodating the costs of distinguished guests. Perhaps more importantly to this city's wealth, Salyrini is the epicenter of the extremely valuable nova ruby trade. Most nova rubies that leave the world are inspected, processed, and exported from the city's northern quarter, which serves as the city's primary economic district.
- Stability: Medium Salyrini is a long-established city that has been ruled by the native Sarkans for thousands of years in peace that has so far only been disrupted by the occasonial dealings of offworld powers. Until the recent Bryn'adul incursions, Salyrini was considered to be relatively sleepy for its size. With the Bryn'adul increasingly pushing forward towards the galactic core, anxiety has started to make its presence feel known, especially as refugees have filtered through the city, escaping from devastated worlds that have fallen to the Bryn'adul. Still, aside from the presence of increased security and precautionary defensive construction, life largely remains the same for the native Sarkans and their guests.
- Freedom & Oppression: Sarkan caste society remains as structured and complex much as it has been for thousands of years. While most native Sarkans find this social structure to be expected and comfortable – it continues to be complex and confusing for outsides. The notorious expectation of Sarkan dignataries expecting to exchange hour long introduction remains, which frequently frustrates Silver Jedi Concord staff trying to rush through red tape in order to deal with the Bryn'adul refugee crisis. Some of these Jedi and government officials do seem to be taking hope in that the younger Sarkans appear to beginning to grasp the severity of the turmoil wrought by the Bryn'adul, though the older Sarkans do not appear as concerned.
- Description: Salyrini is a well known city in the Sarka Sector, and currently is a contender for the Sector's capital under the government of the Silver Jedi Concord. Valuable nova rubies have garnered the city a reputation for exceptional wealth, and with it, power and influence within the sector. This wealth combined with the exceptional social coherence of the native Sarkans have made them a political force to be reckoned with in the area and the Sarkan's ambitions easily show within Salyrini itself. Despite its location, it is relatively cosmopolitan despite its density. Yet despite this glittering exterior, it conceals anxiety about the Bryn'adul horde that slowly appears to be encroaching towards them as well as a lack of serious defensive preparedness by the natives. Many Silver Jedi Concord defense force troops and elite Antarian Rangers have begun to correct this, but many critics say it is too little, too late.
- Northeast Quadrant: Once regarded as the most prime real estate in the city, collapsing cave roof has opened up much of the city to the open skies, making it unpopular with the native Sarkans. This area has now largely been converted to a starport and also contains a refugee transfer point.
- Southeast Quadrant: The primary government section, most of the buildings here house various official functions, including many clan headquarters and those of the local defense forces.
- Southwest Quadrant: This area is primarly concerned with the valuable nova ruby trade, consisting of guarded warehouses, jewelry stores, and landing pads for those directly engaged in the trade. Because of the rubies value, this area is heavily patrolled by the local defense forces.
- Northwest Quadrant: This is the primarily residential area, home to towering skyscrapers, hatchling nurseries, and many common day businesses. This area is centered around a confluence of the Yras and Urdo rivers, which also serves as a popular recreational area.
- Escape Tunnels: Tunnels have naturally sprouted out from all across the city over many of the years due to the native Sarkan tendency to tunnel. Some of these tunnels are rather precarious, leading to them being reinforced with duracrete and augmented by anti-concussion field generators to ensure better structural integrity.
SECURITY
High: As the local seat of power and because of the valuable Nova Ruby trade, Salyrini is fairly well defended from internal threats. A Starlight Scutum-series Shield System based in the Southeast quadrant and powered by geothermal power provides protection to fully encase the city if needed. Internally, the Salyrini have largely relied previously on their strictness of their culture to maintain order, relying on only a few number of highly trained local law enforcement officers to provide any means of fighting back. However, with the potential threat of the Bryn, the government has purchased a number of Capricorn Rail Guns and concealed them throughout the city to provide a better means of fighting back. They have recently concluded a deal with the main Silver Jedi Concord government in which large numbers of nova rubies were exchanged for a large federal presence of Silver Jedi Concord troops. Most of these troops are in the eastern quadrants, either directly working on the defensive preparations of the city or helping to shepherd the refugees through the city and on to the next travel point. Civil defense plans have just started to be put into place to evacuate the city's populace through the sprawling and ancient tunnel network.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Salyrini is an ancient city that has steadily grown larger and larger over thousands of years on top of the Yras and Urdo rivers, which have tributaries which have fed the hot springs which the ancient Sarkans needed for heat before the advent of modern technology. Unlike many civilizations, the Sarkan's strict cultural conformity has seen the relative small outposts at these hot springs expand in a linear and highly organized fashion. Trade in the valuable Nova Ruby trade has allowed the city to expand steadily, with most recent expansion being vertical out of sheer necessity. Some of this expansion has disrupted the natural cave roof, causing sections to fall onto the city below.
