Sanctuary

About three months had passed since Edric and Zesiro had gotten married. In that time, she had grown into her position as his wife, consort and high lady. She wouldn't be considered his queen because that went against tradition, but that is essentially what she was.

Things on Kesh were quite productive and thriving. The people appeared happy and even some of her old co-workers had stopped in to say hi. Surprising as that was, it was something she should have expected.

No longer did Zesiro need to walk the streets, looking for trouble and stopping it. In a way, she sometimes missed being able to do that, but it was a good thing considering what she needed to tell her husband.

Lately she had been so very tired and slept far more than normal. If she woke up before a certain time of day, she was sick for the rest of it. Another key factor in her visit to the doctor was her monthly cycle had been missed since they had gotten married. The news she heard from her was not expected either, but she was happy.

Racing back to the palace as much as a now noble woman could, she ran to where she knew she would find Edric at this time of day. One of his favorite places...the gardens.

Edric was busy laying under the shade of a tree, messing with a flower that he had been working on in his father's old labs. It was nothing special but it created a spiral like pattern to its leaves. curling out from the interior and almost looking like a top that had been spun and now the afterimages continued for all time. He was not working today, as much as he could avoid it, having more or less taken the day off and let his advisors handle things for him while he relaxed. He had gotten used to being able to kick back and relax, allowing himself to fit into his role a bit more easily and to govern with less on his mind to worry about.

And so it was here that Edric would be found, only moving when he heard someone coming. His eyes shifted to look the other way and smiled when he saw [member="Zesiro"], trying to appear as noble as she could when he had given up on such a long time ago. It was probably good that she did, made atleast one of them look like a proper ruler, even if either were as far from that as possible. He wondered if life would change drastically at any point with the galaxy changing as it was. If the GA falling would bring an end to their little corner of happiness sooner or later.

Thoughts for another time, he told himself.

"Hey there Zes, you look excited. What is going on?"

Alone in the garden now, Zesiro shucked off trying to appear like a lady and flopped down on the ground next to her husband. Laying on her back, she idly picked at the leaves fallen on the ground from the tree above. She did return the smile Edric gave her and her eyes glinted in the light of the sun as it fell through the tree between the branches.

"Excited is hardly the word, but maybe ecstatic would be better."

Just how to deliver what news she had became suddenly difficult. Rolling onto her side, she looked at him with a look that said she was at a loss for words. They had been together long enough he would know what the look meant and to give her time to get her thoughts together and into words.

Reaching the hand out that had just been playing with the leaves, she wanted to touch him and make her message mean that much more.

"Well you know how I've been so tired and sometimes sick lately? There's a reason for it. Don't worry, I'm not sick or ill and will be just fine in about six months."

It didn't quite answer the question fully, but it gave enough information. Hopefully he would be piece it all together and figure it out himself.

"Ecstatic? You are certainly perking my interest Zes..." Edric's brow raised as he looked at her in the eyes, seeing what was wrong seemed to be something that took Zes more than just a few moments to talk about.

One thing he was not used to seeing was Zes at a loss for words. He could not remember for a moment ever seeing her acting like this, being unable to speak or to say something. She was always the one that knew what to say. It caused a moment of worry but her hand reached out and he took it in his, holding it tight and smiling at her.

He did not care how long it would take her to answer, did not care how long it would take for her to get her mind collected. He just smiled and leaned his head forward, pressing his forehead against hers.

"What ever it is that is wrong, I am certain you will be fine long before that. I am here for what ever it is that weights on you like it does."

Edric was many things, but some of those included both Naivety and being without understanding. Such was the case with the situation that Zes now faced, unable to understand what was happening.

She may have been at a total loss of words, but that didn't mean Zesiro was without a sense of humor. Laughing slightly when he said she certainly had his interest, she gave Edric a wide smile. He took her hand when she held it out and it gave her an idea. Listening to what he said about her getting better before those six months were up made her realize that he was unable to figure out what she meant.

Taking his hand, she rested it on her lower belly area.

"I am perfectly fine Edric. We're going to be parents."

If that wasn't clear enough she didn't know what else she could say. Their foreheads touched and they laid there like that as she spoke.

"I would hope you'll be around for everything, Edric."

Edric was dense and stubborn a great deal of the time, unable to really understand things alot of the time if they are not explained simply for him. He wasn't stupid, just naive and focused on things that did not involve others. Which is why he still looked at her a bit oddly as the pieces took their time to connect. The placement of his hand alongside her words made him at first smile, then furrow his brow, then lay there looking at her eyes. He shifted between emotions like a turn dial but finally he reached out and hugged her tight, leaning his head against hers and smiling.

"Don't be stupid, I wouldn't dream of disappearing... I must say though, this is unexpected, though I can't say entirely impossible considering... uh things." His smile became a bit softer and his he let go of her a bit more, allowing his head to come and lean against hers once more as he looked at her eyes.

He didn't really know what else to say. Hell he barely knew if what he had said was correct or right. He was lost and there wasn't much experience from his past to base his reaction on. He had not had siblings, blood related ones atleast, and his father had never been open about what happened to the daughter he had once had. So Edric was a bit lost in this situation, but that was why he had Zes. She knew how to handle situations like this.

"There is a lot to plan for."

Zesiro didn't pull away or reject it when Edric pulled her close and held her tightly. Holding her breath while he did, she breathed again when he loosened his grip. He said her news was unexpected and she almost rolled her eyes.

"Yes well, it is a good surprise. What do you want? I think a son would be great, but I've only ever known sisters."

They rested heads together and in perfect companionship. At the moment there was nothing to worry about, no people to see, they could lay there for the rest of time and not worry about anything. Time would pass though and duties would need to be tended to. But not right now.

"What do you think your dad will say?"

"Man will probably be a bit too happy to even talk, he gets weird when it comes to kids. Will probably go full grandfather mode once he finds out, so watch out for that." Edric smiled as he thought about what was to come, knowing that Solan would not be disappointed in the development. Hell the kid was probably something that might help ground his father.

"As for what I want... Either would work. You know how I am, I don't care one way or the other as long as things are fine and work out well in the end." Edric smiled and leaned back a little, smiling like a jackel at this point. His right hand moving up and stroking her hair as they rested there and Edric thinking on what to say.

As usual though, the young man said nothing and was more lost than ever before with this knowledge. He was uncertain what to do or how to sincerely react with this knowledge now infront of him. He had no idea what to do and he could only see this ending in a good way with things only improving at this point. The young man stayed silent for a few moments longer before finally finding something to say.

"Though, on second thought, not sure if Solan being a grandfather would be that good. The child might catch the unhealthy obsession that man has with redheads."
