- Structure Name: Sanctuary
- Classification: Jedi Temple
- Location: Abafar
- Affiliation: Jedi big & small
- Accessibility:
Located on the planet of Abafar, the Temple is situated directly within the dead land deserts atop the only oasis within the area. Heading to Sanctuary takes quite a bit of work, and it is highly suggested that one only travels their in a starcraft. Locating the Temple on foot or even inside of a vehicle is extremely dangerous due to it's desert location.
Oddly enough, the force itself seems to guide those in need to Sanctuary, calling to Jedi and those others of the light who require a home.
- Security:
Though the construction of the Temple was done with heavy stone and carvings into the mountains itself, the structure is still vulnerable to orbital strikes. This is mitigated by a single deflector shield generator that can be switched on and maintained just long enough to allow residents to escape through secret tunnels worked into the base of the mountain itself. Aside from this Sanctuary holds no other physical defenses.
The greatest protection that Sanctuary holds is its relatively isolated and hidden status. Abafar is a little known planet, and the locations of the Temple is even less known in the galaxy. The only way to truly find it is to journey with someone who has been there before, or to hear the Temples call.
- Description:
The building itself was constructed and seemingly carved from a mountain side, built up to look ornate yet oddly humble. The exterior of the structure is mostly unadorned, it's most prominent feature being a tall tower that reaches out above the mountain. Further back the structure scales into the heavy rock itself, several stairways and exterior facing buildings nestled neatly into the deep stone.
The Temple is large enough to hold several hundred beings at once, and deep below the building is located a small underground farm based on an oasis. This allows the structure to be self sufficient even without food runs.
It's location is key to it's name. Sanctuary serves as a hiding place for Jedi and other lightsiders, accomplishing this through it's placement on a world that most do not know of. The Temple is tucked away deep in the dead deserts of the worlds, and even the residents of the world are not aware of it's location.
The Temple itself however is seemingly infused with the force. Whether this is a result of construction or some odd twist of the force itself is unknown, but Sanctuary seems to 'call' to those of the light that are in need. It appears within dreams and even waking hours, singing to it's wayward children in order to bring them home. Sanctuary is meant as a safe haven for those of the light in need, and the Temple itself seems to know this.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Conference Hall - Located at the very top of the central tower structure, the Conference Hall is exactly what it sounds like.
This large circular room is equipped with a massive holo-projector and enough chairs to seat around twenty four people. Each of these contain fluffy pillows and are said to be the most comfortable seats anyone has ever experienced in the entire galaxy. Surprisingly, despite the seats, this room is rarely used by anyone in Sanctuary, mostly due to the fact that the Temple has no Council or any real leaders.
Most often the Conference Hall is simply used by individuals who use the projector for their studies or communicating with far away members of their family or particular Jedi Order.
Hangar Platform - Located directly in front of the main structure.
The Hangar Platform is surprisingly small for a temple the size of Sanctuary. This was a conscious choice by both the designers of the Temple and those who paid for it. Done mostly in order to keep Sanctuary from being crowded, the ships which to land there generally tend to be only slightly larger than the average transport. There is of course additional space for other craft around the Temple, though this is mainly desert plateaus.
Archives - Perhaps the most important location inside of Sanctuary, the Archives are located in two sections of the Temple itself. The first of these sections is within the tower like structure that looms over the mountain. The second piece of the Archives is located within the Base of the mountain, accessible only through the winding tunnels of Sanctuary.
These two portions of the Archive are equally important, though have different functions.
The 'top' half of the Archives serve as an open place of education and learning. Anyone and everyone who comes to Sanctuary can access the information found here, and it is encouraged that everyone adds their own bits and pieces. Found within this section of the Archives are pieces of history from all over the galaxy, including what was gathered by Soliael Talith under his time as Neth the Keeper.
The bottom half of the Archives is located at the base of the mountain and is more secure. Kept behind thick vault doors and well protected halls, the bottom Archives store the dangerous information gathered by the Jedi at Sanctuary. Though accessible to those who seek certain tidbits, padawans and innocents are generally kept away.
Living Quarters - Located throughout the entire structure are various styles of living quarters.
Sanctuary boasts a large capacity of beings, and there is always seemingly room for more. Quarters throughout the Temple range from one bedroom barrack style rooms to large suites meant for entire families.
The living quarters of Sanctuary seem to change and shift depending on what is most necessary at the time, a quality that is said to be born of the Temple itself but is in actuality a result of various automatons working to constantly shift the Temple to what is required by its living residents.
Surrounding Desert - Though not exactly a location, the surrounding desert is an important piece of Sanctuary itself. For the Jedi residence of the Temple the desert that sprawls around the Temple serves as more than just a barren waste.
The Jedi utilize the desert around them as everything one can imagine.
From training fields to landing pads the desert plateau's and small dunes serve as a way for the Jedi to add to the Temple's already bolstered interior. Though venturing too far away from Sanctuary can be dangerous, it is not rare to see dozens of Padawan's, Knights, and even Masters training and moving around the surrounding land.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Sanctuary was constructed only recently by a small contracting firm anonymously hired by Soliael Devin Talith.
Though Soliael himself has never much cared for the Jedi Order or anything they've ever done, his wife Kira has been the exact opposite. Raised by the Jedi Order and brought up to serve the light, [member="Kira Talith"] has shown her devotion to the ways of the Jedi for most of her life, including the troubled years within the Republic.
Watching carefully, Soliael observed the pain his wife went through as the orders fractured and continued their lapse in working together. He saw her attempts with the Jedi Academy and everything she did to encourage their children to help the New Jedi Order.
As the troubles between the Orders mounted, and tragedy struck the Talith Family, Soliael observed his wife slowly growing more and more melancholic. The effect was a natural one, and though he attempted his best to cheer her up the tide he was working against was more than he had initially bargained for.
Due to this, Soliael devised a means of alleviating at least some of Kira's concerns.
This was done through the construction of Sanctuary, a Jedi Temple that would be open to not only all the Orders, but those who served the light. The Temple would be operated by a suite of droids and other automatons, seen to and cared for permanently by creations of his own hand.
Sanctuary would serve as an open home to those of the light that were in need for peace and solace.
Hidden and tucked away on a world that had been all but forgotten by the galaxy, Sanctuary was constructed by Soliael through old contacts in what was formerly Moross Crusade Territory. Throughout the Temples construction Soliael himself made brief appearances, utilizing natural bonds of the force to imbue the building with a natural sense of the light.
This is what allows Sanctuary to 'call' to lightsiders within the galaxy, bringing them to the Temple when they most need it.
Due to it's nature, Sanctuary has no true owner. The Temple is maintained and kept stocked by independent droids. All Jedi and those who serve the light are welcome, and those who find Sanctuary are more than welcome to stay as long as they wish.
