OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: To create a specific Intrusion Countermeasure Program for Johnny Diamonds' personal use.
  • Image Source: Modified from Original
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: I.C.E.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION

  • Manufacturer: Johnny Diamonds
  • Affiliation: Johnny Diamonds
  • Market Status: Closed-Market
  • Model: SapphireProtocol.exe
  • Modularity: Yes
  • Production: Unique
  • Material: Digital Programming Code

SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Intrusion Countermeasure: SapphireProtocol.exe was written by Johnny (known henceforth as 'The User') as a way to keep himself and his anonymity safeguarded while netrunning and slicing. It is designed with the explicit purpose to constantly monitor for active slicing and alert the user while masking the user from said attack, rendering them virtually invisible to whomever might be trying to actively slice the user while data-locking the user's code, rendering it unalterable should the situation meet certain criteria.

  • Active Ping: When SapphireProtocol.exe detects pre-programmed criteria, it will actively ping whatever may be trying to slice the user, and trace it back to it's source using it's own active masking to keep itself hidden to all but the most experienced netrunners.

STRENGTHS

  • Digital Ghost: SapphireProtocol.exe is in essence a type of digital Faraday Cage. It takes incoming slicing attempts, and filters them out gradually along parallel systems, rendering the user's digital footprint almost null.

WEAKNESSES

  • Toothless: While SapphireProtocol.exe is a very powerful program to shield the user from unwanted slicing attempts, it has no actual attack capabilities of it's own and relies on the user or sister programs for any such actions. It is defensive in nature only.

DESCRIPTION

Having spent the past two to three years as a virtual hermit on Nar Shaddaa, Johnny Diamonds began to grow increasingly paranoid that he would eventually be found out and/or taken out one day. As a result of this inherent paranoia, he began writing SapphireProtocol.exe as a way to retain his anonymity, as he basically lived on the net, only going out into what he refers to as "meatspace" only when absolutely necessary. Considering his main source of income was in both information and the theft of credits in the form of data transfers, he found that he did not so much need something to attack, but something to mask him, and keep him undetectable in the case that someone or something got wise to his intrusions on whatever system he might be lurking in at the time.

SapphireProtocol.exe is represented on the net as a blue/teal digital diamond, which also serves as Johnny's personal digital alter ego's logo. It is a purely defensive measure, and should it fail, Johnny must rely on pure skill to get himself out of trouble. This program is simply extra added protection, a sort of 'Plan A' so he doesn't have to resort to Plan B all the time.
