Anya Venari
Star Queen Tirathana VII
Sarix Mk2
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The Sarix (pl. Sarixi) has been the traditional melee weapon of the Eldorai for millennia. Isolated on Kaeshana they developed weapons very like the Velmorian Energy Swords, which were physical blades with an energy sheath around them. The Eldorai never developed the means of creating a true lightsabre, but for their local wars it was enough.
The arrival of offworlders came as a deep shock to the Eldorai for many reasons. One key reason for this was the disparity in weaponry. A Sarix was just about the only weapon which could reliably deal with modern armour, but to do so the Eldorai had to get close enough to engage in melee – a hard feat when blaster bolts tore through Eldorai armour like cardboard.
However, several decades in the galaxy, cataclysm, rebellion and invasion has changed the Eldorai, and their traditional weapons needed to change. The Angelii, the Eldorai Force Using corps, used the Sarix because they had little choice, though the high ranking officers switched the lightsabres where possible.
Therefore, Queen Tirathana ordered production of a more up-to-date weapon from Firemane. That mega-corp’s massive resources allowed it to produce many of these weapons for the Eldorai. Still, not all Angelii would be getting the new weapons, only those units on campaign or officers received them. There were unfortunately cases of desertion and outright theft, allowing some terrorist units and rebels to equip themselves with the new weapons.
In power, the new Sarix is closer in power to a lightsabre, but still lacks in key areas. For one it lacks the ability to cut through heavy armour plating, blast doors, rock, etc. Trying to do this will cause the energy shroud to shut down to prevent a burnout. Second, the weight of the blade is of course much more than a lightsabre whose plasma beam is weightless. That makes it harder to duel, and makes fighting a lightsabre user without a shield or other equipment very dangerous. Lastly, the blade itself is vulnerable if ever caught without the shroud, liable to being cut or shattered if so exposed.
However, for personal use in combat, the Sarix is a good weapon for one trained in melee. The Sarix has an enhanced ability to cut through many materials similar to, but not to the extent of, a lightsaber. The Sarix can also put additional momentum and impact through the weight of the blade, allowing them to hammer an opponent or knock a lighter weapon aside.
The Sarix itself usually contains a crystal and power field which glows blue, though other colours can be used, just like with a lightsabre.
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent: To update and strengthen the old Sarix weapon of the Eldorai. The original weapon was created as a clearly inferior version of a lightsabre, something the technologically inferior Eldorai might have made. This new weapon is based on 20 years exposed to the galaxy and the need to compete. This weapon moves closer to a true lightsabre in terms of ability, but it still lacks several things a true lightsabre does. A duel between lightsabre and Sarix will usually end poorly for the latter unless equipped and/or trained with other items to counter those strengths. This is not a lightsabre, but a slightly inferior copy.

- Can parry lightsabres and deflect blaster bolts like a lightsabre.
- Has cutting power similar to a lightsabre but lesser.
- Blade can be used unpowered, in which case it performs as a standard durasteel sword.
- Weapon can be used in one or two hands, with pros and cons for each.
- Shroud. The energy shroud covering the blade grants it some of the properties of a lightsabre. It can thus cut through many materials and deflect blaster bolts.
- Weight. The weight and mass of the blade gives it greater kinetic energy in combat. A strong two-handed slash allows the user to put more strength into the blow, potentially knocking an opponent or their weapon aside.
- Versatile. The Sarix can be used in one or two hands, with or without the energy shroud and in conjunction with other equipment.
- Cutting. The Sarix lacks the lightsabre’s ability to sustain heavy cuts. For instance, a Sarix cannot cut through a blast door such as Qui-Gonn did, nor can it be used to melt through a solid wall or vehicle plating. It can only be used for cutting and piercing personal equipment and small items of other material.
- Weight. The Sarix is a physical blade, and thus is much slower than a lightsabre in a duel. This also applies to reflecting blaster bolts. It is harder and slower to move the blade, making it less efficient.
- Unpowered. Without the energy shroud the Sarix is merely a durasteel sword, admittedly a fine one. If caught with the power off, or if ion or other circumstances deactivates it, the blade can be destroyed relatively easily. A lightsabre or even a vibrosword would have no problem cutting it, and a blaster will blow it apart.
