APPEARANCE:
Talani favors dark clothing made of light but durable materials. Most of her clothes have hidden pockets and sheaths sewn into them to conceal her wide array of vibrodaggers. Her hair falls to about the middle of her back and is usually kept in a ponytail or a long braid. There is a large scar stretching from the corner of her left eye, across her nose and halfway down her right cheek in a diagonal line. Even with the scar marring her face though, she is though to be quite pretty.
BIOGRAPHY:
Sar’Talani’Vek, daughter of Sar’Alon’Vek and Sar’Nialah’Vek, has never had what one might call a happy life. She grew up on board a freighter mostly. Both of her parents had left behind the rest of the Chiss for the adventurous life of smugglers. When she was three years old Talani witnessed the death of her mother, Nialah, at the hands of an angry ‘customer’ who had ambushed her when they went to drop off a shipment. Thankfully, the little Chiss was too young to remember the horrible events she had witnessed. The customer had come onto the ship to negotiated payment, and had ended up shoving a vibrosword through her mother’s heart.
This left Talani in the care of her father. Alon continued smuggling, though he was nowhere near as accomplished at the practice as his wife had been. Talani had witnessed her father being beaten for losing shipments several times. He was a bit of an adrenaline junky and liked to take the more dangerous routes when transporting goods. She had essentially began learning the smuggler’s trade at the age of five from watching her father’s mistakes. By the time she was ten years old, the young Chiss had learned all of the things you shouldn’t do when it came to running illegal cargo around the galaxy.
Tragedy struck again though when Talani was thirteen years old. She had become something of a partner in her father’s smuggling operations at this point in her life. The young girl had gone with her father to meet the Sempra the Hutt for whom they had been transporting a shipment of spice. Her father had taken a shortcut through Republic space and ended up having to drop the load. He didn’t have the money to cover the cost of the drugs. Talani watched as Sempra ordered the death of her father. She was standing two feet behind him when he was shot in the head with high powered blaster. His blood and brain matter had ended up splattered across her face. A shard of his skull left a nasty cut on her face from the corner of her left eye, across the bridge of her nose, and down to the middle of her left cheek.
The Hutt saw how Talani remained standing, head held high, even as her father was killed right in front of her, rather that slaughter Talani too, Sempra saw potential in her. He told her that he was willing to give her employment with the gang he controlled on Nar Shadda. With nowhere else to turn, Talani accepted on the condition that when she was eighteen she would be allowed to have her father’s ship. Sempra the Hutt had agreed, provided she run shipments for him once she had access to the ship.
Among the gang Talani gained something of a reputation. She was known for completing any task she was given without mistakes. Her aim with a blaster was terrible, but the girl was deadly with knife. Sempra often used her to “decommission” high ranking officers of other gangs. She became something of a personal assassin in his employment, along with doing whatever the gang told her to do. She kept her head down and did as she was told until the day she could reclaim the ship.
When she was sixteen the young Chiss hit a bit of a “bump in the road” when she found out she was pregnant. As punishment for being unable to do the work that was required of her as a gang member and Sempra the Hutt’s personal assassin, she was ordered to kill the father of the child. Talani tried to argue, saying that it was entirely her fault and the man she loved shouldn’t be killed because of her failure, but her arguments fell on deaf ears. She eventually gave in, promising that she would never allow herself to grow close to anyone ever again. When Talani finally gave birth to the child, a little girl she named Sar’Zaitha’Vek, Sempra took custody of the child shortly after it was born, seeing it as another perfect way to manipulate Talani. She was allowed to visit the girl once every three months for a few hours provided she followed her orders and didn’t do anything to displease her employer.
Shortly before her eighteenth birthday Talani negotiated a deal with another member of high society on Nar Shadda. Another local crime lord agreed to give her an old warehouse and a small amount of money in exchange for her to run spice for him as well once she had her ship. Talani used the money to convert the warehouse into a cantina, providing her with a cover business for her smuggling career. She used the cantina to hide the large sums of money she was receiving for her smuggling runs. She now lives on Nar Shadda in an apartment above her cantina. The Chiss still does smuggling jobs frequently, but when she isn’t out with her ship she can be found overseeing things in her cantina. The only regret she has is that she hasn’t yet found a way to regain custody of her daughter.
