- Avali Supremacy - Most of the Satorian population are pre-dispositioned to serve the enigmatic Avali.
- Avarice - Satorians inevitably succumb to avarice, how this manifests can vary from individual to individual but they will inevitably begin to seek the accumulation of something whether that be Knowledge, Wealth, Power, or even animals.
- Diet: Omnivore
- Communication: Spoken and Body Language (emphasis on tail)
- Technology level: Galactic Standard (Exceptions noted below)
+Logistics+
The Satorians utilise advanced logistical methodologies and technologies to support their personal and master's enterprises.
+Autonomous Machinery+
Satorians being physically weak typically rely on machinery and droids to do the jobs they cannot. This has resulted in advancements in automation.
-Material-
Satorians society is geared towards service industries, they haven't invested much into material sciences. Instead using their extensive wealth to procure materials from other species.
-Military Technologies-
Satorians are a subservient species, the Avali have purposefully maintained this by heavily restricting advancements in the military. - Religion/Beliefs: The core belief that underpins Satorian society is their unshakable belief that they somehow descended from the Avali, whom many believe to be God-like figures. As a result, many live a comfortable life of servitude working diligently to further the goals of their serpentine masters. But even if doubts existed, few would care for the Avali to treat their servants well and many of the most accomplished Satorians live a life of luxury second only to their masters.
The reason for the poor lifespan isn't a lack of healthcare but rather simply the cursed Avarice. Around the age of 25~30 most will succumb to an unstable desire to accumulate, when a Satorian begins to show signs of this they are expected to perform ritualistic suicide or risk prosecution. This condition affects about 95% of the population, with the remaining 5% surviving for much longer before it catches up with them. - General behaviour: As a subservient species much of the Satorian behaviour is influenced by the Avali families that control them. Many view the world and others as a resource to exploit, many of their actions being determined by a perceived value of a particular action. If a transaction is believed to be unprofitable for them, or their masters they will refuse or try to manipulate others into more favourable terms.
That being said, they are loyal as breaking the terms of any agreement is a mark against their name, and thus also their guild.
A Satorians family is the Guild, which is controlled by an Avali family. They are hatched not knowing their parents and the act of mating is transactional rather than one of affection. That isn't to say they are heartless, Satorians will defend their peers if threatened and can form relationships, but love is a complex issue and not usually encouraged.
Despite being a subservient species, they are treated well and often share the luxuries of their Avali masters, although this may be limited by perceived rank in a guild. The reason for this is simple: Avali believes the Satorians to be their possessions and particularly skilled or knowledgeable Satorians are the most valued commodity of their markets and mistreatment of Satorians is taboo.
That isn't to say Satorians lead fulfilling lives, but for many services to the Avali is its reward.
Satorians infrequently appear in the broader galaxy, most who have seen them would have done so during dealings with the Avali. Either as consultants or advisors serving aboard the ship of a Guild Fleet.
-Republic & Empire Epoch-
~300BBY
The Satorians culture is young by most standards, with the first recorded encounter happening during the High Republic Era when an Avali migrant fleet, to their surprise discovered bronze age settlements on Sator IV's equator. Catching the Avali off guard the decision was taken to passively observe the population, and ascertain if the species was a threat to their society.
~250BBY
In order to facilitate this, the Citlalee (see-tah-lee) Guild was commissioned to construct an observation post in the high orbit of the planet. The station is handed over to Xihuitl a female Avali xenobiologist who begins conducting surveys and monitoring the inhabitant's cultural and industrial progress.
~230BBY
As Xihuitl and her team prepare to publish their findings, Tharakus Prime enters a state of intense solar activity. While preparing to evacuate the station they are hit by an intense burst of radiation that disables the Outpost and damages Sator IV's upper atmosphere. Xihuitl manages to escape but becomes stranded on the planet.
After failing to contact her, or the crew she is assumed to have died in the accident. Meanwhile, Xihuitl awakens to find herself in a subterranean structure after the natives recovered her body from the fallen star.
~190BBY
The Satorians have become a subterranean species, using the caves to take shelter from solar radiation while the planet's atmosphere recovers. Xihuitl, hoping to contact her people begins teaching them the basic sciences, mathematics, and medicine. She is surprised by their capacity to learn making note that given time and resources they could become technologically superior to her people.
However, not all is well. She learns that some members of society begin to regard her as something more than a traveller as she originally claimed. Having no interest in such things and longing to return home she becomes increasingly desperate and tries to accelerate her plans.
~185BBY
Xihuitl leaves during the night speaking only with her closest allies warning them not to expect her return. She doesn't.
Despite this progress continues at pace under the stewardship of an elder council. However, history is marred by frequent inquisitions and attempts to suppress the more spiritual members of their species.
~100BBY
The Citlalee Guild cedes control of Sator IV to their rivals Tlayouak with the promise to claim and exploit Sator IV's resources. Initial Scout teams are sent and find evidence of Avali technology on the planet. This eventually leads to the discovery of Xihuitl's remains and her logs revealing detailed information on the native population.
Amoztli, leader of the Tlayouak Guild senses an opportunity and begins using the information to manipulate local populations. Using their superior technology she begins fabricating events to excite religious groups. This culminates in a three-month war when several male Avali are dispatched to help religious elements overthrow ruling governments and powers.
Following the conflict, the Tlayouak begin to subjugate local populations through various means. Others are purged in the name of Xihuitl who is canonised as a religious figure by the Tlayouak.
~30BBY+
By the point of the Clone Wars, the Satorian race had been mostly integrated into Avali society. While their role within guilds was continuing to develop many remained optimistic about their futures. During this time, many Avali were seeking opportunities elsewhere in the Galaxy and with high demand for specialist goods, they found themselves becoming a valued commodity.
This was reinforced by the Siege of Calix in 22BBY when Satorian Holdouts were successful in delaying a CIS offensive long enough for the Shovah and Var Migrant Fleets to engage the Separatists in high orbit above the Avali home-world of Xak Tharakus. This led Quetzalli, the most influential Avali female of the time to take on partners who showed a keen interest in the well-being of their Satorian subjects, and some members began to rise to prominence by taking on senior roles in the Guilds.
This remained true of the Satorians for generations to come, although selective breeding and genetic engineering remained a commonplace practice until the fall of the Empire and New Republic laws came into force.
-Chaos Epoch-
For much of the period following the Clone Wars Satorian, history was dictated by their Avali masters. While some rose to prominence the vast majority were nameless servants long forgotten to any semblance of Galactic History. There were even arguments that the Satorians should once again learn their place but those voices were quickly silenced.
In 426 ABY the Avali industries were in full force, and their knowledge of Terraforming remained in high demand as the Galaxy continued to recover from the Yuuzhan Vong War. However, all this changed when the Citlalee Guild's migrant fleet came into contact with the so-called Gulag virus. After several senior Avali and hundreds of Satorians succumbed to the virus they immediately recalled to Xak Tharakus for treatment.
Despite attempts to isolate and prevent the passage of the virus infection of the local populations was inevitable, and the Avali suffered heavily under its effects. For the Satorians it was a game of numbers, their vast population could sustain heavy losses and recover quickly. The Avali, however, was a different story.
Their masters were notoriously slow breeders, and almost immediately closed their borders to the wider galaxy but it was far too late and much of the Avali population was devastated by the virus's effects. But for the Satorians this represented a significant boon as they became invaluable and highly respected members of the Avali culture.
For the wider Galaxy, Satorians contributed in other ways. When Omni rose to power many Satorians found their skills to be in demand across the Galaxy. Migrant fleets and their representative Guilds would loan out individuals to local governments providing logistically and analytic support that helped identify and shut down nodes throughout the Galaxy.
