- Save Your Mind: digitize and upload your consciousness, free yourself from your body and live on in digital form. This is a form of mind transfer, meaning this is permanent, you leave your body and being uploaded to the main core, and can live on in a digital form. Your body becomes a mindless shell in the process. In normal case this is not a copy of you, it is you. It is possible to transform the consciousness back to a body, to a synthethic body, into a droid, or to the original body if it has the necessary cybernetics to run the consciousness. It is also possible to live on the main core in a digital world, or in any other device that can run a digital world. This is a kind of immortality project for non force sensitives.
- Same Black Cat Twice: with Save Your Mind it is also possible to just make a digital copy of yourself, it is a carbon copy of your mind, but in this case you obviously do not save yourself, it is just a copy. The benefit is that you can effectively double yourself. Running multiple copies is very resource-demanding so K Corp advices against that.
- Never Fade Away: Never truly Fade Away, digitized consciousnesses are much more resilient than normal ones. You can change bodies, live on secure servers, hibernate yourself for even hundreds of years, you can survive soft resets, and can even save yourself on a special chip to avoid grave dangers from the world. Fail-safe systems exist. Immortality is within your grasp.
- Altered Carbon: once you run on code it is much easier to change yourself. Lower your pain, increase your patience, learn new things in the digital world by just uploading the data in your mind, delete bad memories, or just simply be happy. There are many possibilities to enhance your mind and body.
- Like Tears In The Rain: although digital minds are hard to kill, they are not really immortal, you can still vanish like tears in the rain. You are not a force ghost, not one with the force, just 1s and 0s running on something, if the hardware you are running on is destroyed, you die. While you can survive soft resets, a hard power reset means the real you dies and a perfect copy reboots. In this case the systems notifies you about this happening and you can choose how to go forward. Being digital also opens up possibilities for digital attacks, by computer viruses, hacking and the list goes on.
- Is That Really You?: the process is perfect, the transition is seamless, the feeling of continuity is whole, it’s you. It doesn’t feel like dying. But the question can still linger in the back of your mind. Is that really you? Does it really matter? The answers exist, but only K Corp core engineers and K Corp leadership knows.
- Force Ghost In The Shell?!: Force users who use Save Your Mind and transfer their minds back to their cybernetic bodies can experience weakened connection to the Force and weaker Force powers. Save Your Mind is K Corporation’s most advanced and closely-guarded project to date. A true hidden gem. It is a complex and elaborate way to digitize someone’s mind and transfer it out of their body.
The participant has to enter a very special facility designed only for the technology. It is basically a clinic mixed with a datafortress. Here the person gets mentally and physically ready for the process. The process itself is very similar to an operation. The person gets anesthesia then highly skilled medical personal connects the nervous system with the computer system. When the connection is established the program “Save Your Mind” runs and transfers the person’s consciousness from real to digital form. All the biological connections and signals transform into virtual form. At this point the consciousness start to leave its former body, before it slips away it is uploaded through a high-capacity data cable to the central sever, called the main core. Here in the main core the person wakes up. It feels like floating in an ocean and slowly being washed to shore. In the digital world a K Corp guide waits for the newcomer and introduces the person the the virtual realm. Every mind has to spend a few hours in the virtual world until everything gets wrapped up. When the full process is done the person can choose where it wants to go. Transfer back into a body or live on a digital world or somewhere in between. The possibilities are great. The usual choices are being transferred back into a body, be it a cyborg, a fully synthethic or a droid body. Or live in a virtual world for a while, although these virtual worlds are not like the real one, the colors and objects are strange, it’s like a ghost world, but here it is much easier for the person to modify itself, learn new things, change some of your attributes. The third option is living on a server, but be in contact with the real world, like a living hologram. The most secure choice is being uploaded onto a special chip (shown in the pictures) which can be installed into a body. Minds are surprisingly coherent and compact, they can fit on a chip. The surrounding infrastructure that supports them however is very demanding.
The special facilities where the complex transformation can happen are top-secret sites. Secret fortresses with clinical units, extensive digital infrastructure like vast data centers, each has strong a defense system, a powerful cooling system and multiple energy sources. There are designed to keep the digital minds safe. Running all the calculations generates extreme levels of heat, so all these sites are located on cold planets like Hoth, Pagodan or Kalidan.
Save Your Mind services are offered to premium K Corporation clients. It has a very high price. A dozen of VIP clients have already successfully taken part in Save Your Mind. There were no complaints so far. The usual clientele are political figures, rich businessmen, famous artists, military leaders, nobles and corporate suites.
History:
While K Corp software engineers and programmers were working on a secret Artificial Intelligence project, they accidentally got very close to making a digital copy of an existing intelligence. They immediately recognized the importance of this breakthrough and reorganized the project to pursue new goals. Using the best minds, mathematicians and coders from across the stars, and the best equipment money can buy, they slowly reached a true breakthrough. The first version was just making copies of someone’s mind. The first tests obviously failed, they needed to find out the whole digital background of a simulated consciousness, the whole environment that in a being like that could exist had to be programmed. And the framework that can run that digital environment also had to be programmed. People working on it wrote tons of code, so much that these codes would fill up gigantic libraries. Of course the infrastructure weren’t ready, nothing could process that much data. Everything just crashed, servers went up in flames. K Corp had to develop new technologies and data cores for this to ever work. While normally they only use their own hardware and software – as being a proud tech megacorp – and especially in a secret project like this they initially didn’t want to rely on other parties, the task was simply too great. Not sparing any cost K Corp bought the best hardware and software solutions on the market to use and combine them with its own bleeding-edge technology. This much hardware required extreme cooling. The secret data centers were built on cold planets, like Hoth or Kalidan. After having the hardware ironing out the code was much easier. The first version was ready shortly and the conglomerate made some mind copies. Animals and personals were copied to digital form. The process worked very well. The copies showed signs of awareness. K Corp theorized about the use cases of the technology. During a marketing meeting they came up with the Save Your Mind name for the project.
After the 1.0 version the real top-secret project started. The goal was to transfer a mind to a digital form without killing the subject. A technology was originally planned for in-house use only. Some time was needed to perfect the method. For a long time they were just basically unintentionally killing the original person and were making perfect copies. Time was needed to realize the mistakes. Save Your Mind wasn’t delicate enough to truly help the mind on the journey to another form. They had to explore not only the digital, but the biological, psychological and the philosophical realms and sciences too. The first person who was really transferred was a wookie. Later this wookie was successfully transferred back into a synthethic wookie body. The code to mind upload was finally cracked. Now they needed to establish standardized equipment and methods for the process and polish the little details. For example the upload had disorienting effects on the subject, with other side-effects such as phantom pains, sickness, loss of body experience. They had to adjust for these. Also housing the consciousness requires a safe digital world with connection to the real one. All these little problems were solved. Then came the second part of the secret project, transferring the digital minds back to a body. Droid bodies were the first prototypes. Later it turned out the best option is a cyborg body, preferably the host’s own body with cybernetic implants.
With the program ready for real use K Corp started to offer the Save Your Mind services for some premium clients. And as mentioned before, a dozen of VIP clients have already successfully taken part in Save Your Mind. The technology is a great success, there were 0 complains about the service. Political figures, rich businessmen, famous artists, military leaders, corporate suites, nobels and others have already successfully digitized themselves.
Although Save Your Mind is the most shining and ambitious technology on K Corp’s virtual crown, it also required the most sacrifice… credits and lives alike.
