SB 0316 "Title Matters Not"

SENATE BILL 0316
TITLE MATTERS NOT

  1. In the absence of a senator, a system may designate an individual to represent her interests in the Galactic Senate. This individual is granted all the rights and responsibilities of a senator, however they do not have the title “senator”. The head of state may represent their respective system’s interests in person or appoint a government official to represent them on their behalf.

  2. Senators are and shall remain the primary representatives of their respective systems in the Galactic Republic and shall remain the primary point of contact when engaging in official talks.

  3. Should a system wish to have a non-senator represent them, their representative will be allowed to do so within the Galactic Senate, pending a majority vote to induct the representative by the sitting Senate.

TL;DR: You don’t have to be a senator per sé to actually be a senator. You can be a representative, emissary, king, etc. and still be granted all the rights and responsibilities as a member of the Galactic Senate.

Gael observed his computer screen to look for any changes or additions that should be made. He grew tired, so he saved the document and shut down his computer terminal. He would resume the bill another day and would send it out to his fellow senators once both he and the legislation were ready.

Martika Varta

Senator, Umbara; Committee on Civics & Infrastruct
Martika read over the proposed bill and marked his suggestion corrections in red, which included only the removal of engendered language and the addition of a title.

Proposed corrections:

  • In the absence of a senator, a system may designate an individual to represent her their interests in the Galactic Senate. This individual is granted all the rights and responsibilities of a senator, however they do not have the title “senator”. The head of state may represent their respective system’s interests in person or appoint a government official to represent them on their behalf.
  • Titles are important for the organization and quick referencing of bills and measures through the Republic Code of Law. Title Suggestion: Representative Reassignment Act
