Scared of the Dark

Gyndine, the seat of power for the Phoenix Legions, and were his fleets and Legions were currently based until the mission to take Denon was exicuted. He was still waiting for the authorization from the Kaiser himself before his men were to take flight. The Legions under his command were placed under the 2nd Sector Army, commanded by a General loyal to Jagger but would be on loan to the Kaisers Cousin. He himself would await on a secondary planet where he would take command of the system.

The Admiral had a lot of trust in the Kaiser, loyalty and duty to the New Order was deep to his core. Yet he had a problem with this nations central government. SITH. He did not trust them, and as long as they commissioned an order to him without a seal from the Kaiser, he would drag his feet. He had never meet any of them, but he swore his loyalty to Cyril, not the Dark Council.

Jagger was sitting by his fireplace in the New Gyndine Government Building. His private officer was the center of all Legion Intelligence, Republic central database as well as the One Sith Imperial Databand was located behind 5 feet of Duracrete lined with Durtaniam. Admiral Jagger saw himself as a learner of Grand Admiral Thrawn as well as General Jan Dodonna. Each taught him that Information was King in any conflict. So he hid all the information he knew in the deepest hole he could. Yet he didn't feel safe in his nearly impenetrable fortress, a shiver ran down his spine as he felt eyes learning through him.

Admiral Jagger stood from his seated posistion and looked around, only to freeze a second, "If you wanted to kill me you would have, what is it you want?"

Vengeance chuckled. He wore a suit and tie, It made it easier to blend in some times in places he really shouldn't be.

"Who said anything about killing you?" "Have you done something to deserve death?"

Vengeance walked forward taking a seat beside where the man was. For a moment he just watched the fire before he turned and looked at the man.

"Sit..........why is it you think I am here?" "Who is it you think I represent?"

Jagger's breath was shortened, to miss the man at first glance was easy as the fire created many formed of shadows within his office. This truth did not make the Admiral feel any better as he was lucky this was no assassin. The fear and surprise he felt quickly disappeared as he realized the situation. His eyes narrowed to the point of the mans nose, though his vision and mind wondered the area to look for any other intruders. In a quick summary, he saw none, but he kept his brain on high alert. He took a deep but silent breath with his eyes still looking into the mans soul. The security of the place was thicker then the Politicians Skeleton Closet. The only way a man like this got past his security was if he was a highly trained assassin or a Force User. Either was now possible as he entered the Kaisers military and he had no friends within the military.

"I am a solider who send others to their death and kill my Nations enemies without regret," The admiral looked toward the man and took a seat, "I think death is the least I deserve, the better question would be is it you who will answer my enemies prayers?"

Jagger finally deduced as he spoke, "But I think our master, Lord Mephirium would still have for a need for me." His master was the only person he posed a true threat to. After the meeting with the other Admirals and Generals, he stepped down as a Grand Admiral and did not push for the occupation of Denon. As such this man had to only be someone deeply loyal to his new Master.

Vengeance chuckled.

"You think Darth Mephirium is the reason I am here?"

He turned looking at the man.

"He doesn't know I am here."

Vengeance paused.

"If he wanted you dead he wouldn't send a Sith to do it." "He would either come himself or make you come to him."

Vengeance turned to the man and smiled.

"You need to learn something about Sith." "Failures are kept secret as they show an exploitable weakness." "If a Sith wants you dead you simply disappear as if you never existed to begin with."

Vengeance turned back to look at the fire.

"To answer your enemies prayers would make me your enemy..............am I your enemy?" "Besides if everyone that killed deserved death then no one would escape such a fate."

The questions this man was placing before his feet were rather interesting to think about. As such he stopped a second to think, and with these few sentences answered many of his questions. First, he was indeed a minion of his master, and second he was not an assassin sent here to kill him. As he came to this conclusion he pulled his weapon from under his book and placed the weapon and the book on the night stand beside him. He then smiled and opened the Commenor Brandy before him and offered the man a drink.

"It would seem that only you have the answer to all your questions." Jagger then took a sip of his drink and closed his eyes for a second to enjoy the burn of the sip. "but I think I've got an answer and maybe a question for you, you are here because you want something from me, as many other want as well," He set the glass beside him and then leaned forward in his chair. "you are not my enemy either if you serve my Kaizer Lord Mephirium, all who serve him I can not call enemy."

The man then leaned back in his seat and left his arms at his side and in complete trust in the other man. He then stated, "If you are not my enemy, then are you my friend or just another common slave who cant think or enjoy a nice aged brandy?" Jagger sat there with a cold stone straight face and look no longer at the man, but through him.

Vengeance chuckled.

"I serve no man but myself." "Darth Mephirium has his goals and I have mine." "For the moment they do not conflict."

Vengeance paused looking at the drink but not taking it.

"As far as why I am here well that is simple." "Curiosity...............I have met Grand Admiral Rade and now I am meeting you."

Vengeance smiled.

"You do seem to be a better host than Admiral Rade.............while I appreciate the offer of the drink I don't partake." "Dulled senses are a dangerous thing in my line of work." "Do you know the most popular way a person becomes a Sith Lord......................by killing one."

Vengeance turned and looked at the man.

"I am a person who values two things...........information and a competent Military Commander." "Contrary to what we like to tell people Sith can't rule by themselves." "They're simply are not enough of us even if we weren't frequently trying to kill each other to get or stay one step ahead of the guy beside us."

Vengeance turned back to look at the fire.

"I serve two purposes in my life." "Teaching the next generation of potential Sith the art of war and the second is Intelligence more specifically misdirection and counter-intelligence." "The more you know about allies and enemies a like the more effective you can be."

Jagger cracked a smile as the man finished and didn't attack him. Jagger was a avid follower of the same thing as this man, the true power of the Galaxy was Information. He had spent years soon years gathering information about the Galaxy and its major players. Ever since he returned to Galactic civilization he strived for it. He was a strategist for the Republic Counter Intelligence Agency, as such he was able to get into the system with ease. The Sith Database was a bit more difficult for him, so this may be a possible benefit for him.

He picked up his glass once again, "When you've been drinking as long as I have, this," He sipped on his glass of brandy, "no longer dulls your senses, the burn gives clears my mind as the buzz clears my mind and let's me escape to a place where I'm trapped in my own head, where I belong."

He let out a slight sigh as he leaned forward to pour another glass for himself. The sound of the liquids as it exited the glass container sailed though the sound waves making a refreshing sound. As he finished he leaned back and looked back to the man, "So a man looking for information, huh, so how can I help you secure this information?"

Vengeance glanced at the man.

"Spoken like some one ashamed of what they have done."

Vengeance chuckled.

"Who said I wanted or needed your help?"

Vengeance paused.

"Let me tell you a story...........it's about a young man trapped in a world he didn't understand and never cared about." "You see this man was what most would call a good soldier." "A man that followed orders and did what needed to be done." "As this man got older he began to see things not as duty required him to see but as they actually were."

Vengeance turned back to the fire.

"You see chaos can look suspiciously like order and incompetence like wisdom to the untrained eye." "Or the eye too caught up in fanaticism to see the truth." "Take things like information." "A name on a building is just words.............it's use is what matters." "More importantly the effectiveness of the people inside."

Vengeance paused.

"Empires can be fickle things." "The assumption that it has no enemies...........no points of vulnerabilities causes it to view itself untouchable." "By the time it realizes it is wrong it is too late." "People are elevated to positions not because they are competent or knowledgeable in such things but because they are controllable." "The problem being that such an approach creates more vulnerabilities than it fixes."

Vengeance smiled.

"You see someone who has known only abuse can easily be turned by kindness.........an escape from pain." "Conversely someone who has known only kindness can very easily be turned by the appropriate application of pain." "They will say and do anything to no longer feel the pain."

Vengeance kept his gaze on the fire wondering my kind of response he would get. Coincidentally this man had already been excluded as being of any use to him. Vengeance was a well traveled man on both sides of the battle lines. He doubted this man knew anything of use to him. However he could be wrong but even if he was one had to be careful which eggs he put in which baskets.
