- Serves as a focus for Illyria's dark energies. Specifically, it is enhances her control over her terramancy, which is her primary Force power. However, while it makes it easier for her to draw upon her power for longer periods, it is not unlimited. It does not grant her the ability to summon earthquakes or cause massive chasms in ground etc.
Weaknesses:
- Vulnerable to blasts of Force Light.
- It loses all supernatural properties and becomes a mundane weapon within the Force-negating bubble generated by a ysalamiri.
- Contains a darkside aura and can thus alert other Force-users to the wielder's presence.
- Careless use of the sword can result in the wielder being afflicted by their own poison.
- A rapier is primarily a thrusting weapon. Low weight allows movement, but can put wielder at a disadvantage against physically strong opponents who wield heavier, more powerful blades.
- As a tradeoff for its greater speed and light weight, the rapier lacks the weight and heft of a larger sword. Moreover, it cannot just hammer away with kinetic power.
DESCRIPTION
Some time after enacting a hostile takeover of the Covenant of Uriel cult, Sumiko Tanaka decided she should design a reward for Illyria's faithful service towards her. After all, shiny trinkets and toys help keep a minion motivated. So Sumiko devised a weapon that would be designed to be useful for her Apprentice in combat...and enable her to keep tabs on her. After all, neither of them are 'dark is not evil' anti-heroines. Or kindly Sith. Instead they're two Neutral/Lawful Evil sociopaths, who are allied out of pragmatic convenience. Regardless, using her knowledge of alchemy, Sumiko created a Sith blade for her acolyte.
Unlike the standard Sith sword, this is not a heavy broadsword, but a rapier. The reasoning for this is that Illyria is an Eldorai. Compared to humans, her people are quicker and more agile, but they are physically weaker. Compared to a standard Sith broadsword, the rapier is much quicker and lighter. As a consequence, though it is not weightless, it is more likely to keep up with a lightsabre in a duel. However, it lacks the weight and heft of a larger sword. Plus of course, the rapier has to pierce the armour joints and weakspots, if an opponent is wearing armour. It can't just hammer away with kinetic power. It is a weapon designed for speed and precision, not brute force.
Aside from this, the Scarlet Serpent as Sumiko called the sword, contains the standard attributes of a Sith sword: resistance to lightsabres, the ability to ground, store and unleash Force Lightning and blaster bolt deflection. It is virtually physically indestructible by conventional means, but contains a dark aura that can be felt unless otherwise obscured. Moreover, it is vulnerable to strong blasts of Force Light and will lose its preternatural qualities within a ysalamiri field.
Through a drop of her blood, the Scarlet Serpent was bonded to Illyria. The sorcery allows the Dark Eldorai to channel and focus her dark energies easier, specifically for use of her terramancy. This can give her a boost, but a limited one in the greater scheme of things.
Furthermore, Sumiko imbued the blade with the toxin called Devaronian blood poison. Simply touching the blade can cause extreme pain. Should it break skin, the wound would be most painful unless treated. Furthermore, there is the risk of the poison entering the victim's blood stream and causing them a lot of pain over an extended period of time. Of course, this also means that the wielder has to be careful, lest they accidentally hurt themselves with their own poison, which would be quite embarrassing. Needless to say this makes the weapon a good implement of torture.
Finally, the Scarlet Serpent contains a Nightsister blood trail. Sumiko learned this spell during her time with the Witchmasters. She saw no reason to tell Illyria about this feature. Presumably her minion would not like the idea of her master keeping tabs on her...but that's her problem.
