MISSION REPORT: Scouting Mission

Equipment Loadout:

Sable crouched low on the rooftop, her breath steady and measured as she surveyed the sprawling cityscape of Naboo below her. The night was quiet, save for the occasional hum of a speeder passing by or the distant murmur of a crowd. The soft glow of the city's lights illuminated the elegant architecture, the graceful curves of buildings and winding streets. From her vantage point, everything seemed serene—almost idyllic.

But beneath the calm, Sable's mind was already moving, calculating, assessing.

Her mission was simple: an assassination campaign, precise, quick, and lethal. She was to plant explosives in key locations, ensuring maximum impact with minimal collateral. But the challenge was finding the right places to strike—places that would hit hard, places that would be both strategic and symbolic.

Her sharp eyes scanned the scene below, noting the places of interest. The Naboo royal palace—large, ornate, and filled with high-ranking officials—was an obvious target. But the palace had too much security, and her primary target wasn't there. She needed to think smaller, more surgical, and focused on what could cause the greatest impact without drawing attention too quickly.

The first location that caught her eye was a row of communication towers just outside the city center. If she placed explosives on them, they would take out critical communication lines, sowing confusion and disarray among the local defense forces. The towers were vulnerable, unguarded at night, and they were crucial to the city's infrastructure.

Next, her gaze drifted to the marketplace near the southern edge of the city. It was busy during the day, but at night it was a maze of narrow alleys and quiet side streets. It would be easy to slip in unnoticed. The market wasn't a military target, but destroying it would send a message. And besides, the explosives would be hidden in crates, making it nearly impossible to detect until it was too late.

Her mind shifted quickly to a more personal target—the senator's estate. Located on the outskirts of the city, the mansion was home to one of the most influential figures in the Naboo government. Taking it out would strike at the heart of Naboo's power structure, disrupting their political system and causing chaos in the upper echelons of society. The estate was guarded, but not in a way that would stop her; she had the skills to breach it. The challenge was placing the explosives in such a way that it would cause maximum damage to the structure and its residents without alerting anyone beforehand.

The royal gardens were another option. Lush, expansive, and scattered with fountains and statues, the gardens were a symbol of Naboo's wealth and power. Destroying them would be a powerful statement—a blow to the city's pride. The tricky part would be getting close enough to plant the explosives without being detected.

Sable shifted her weight, her mind calculating the risk factors for each location. She would need to plan her route carefully, ensuring she didn't leave any traces of her presence. The rooftops were her playground, and she was well-versed in moving unseen. Her acrobatics would allow her to scale walls and slip through windows, planting explosives in places no one would expect.

She felt the familiar weight of her equipment—a small bag filled with explosives, a few remote detonators, and several small charges—pressing against her side. Every tool was perfectly organized, ready for use. Now, it was just a matter of timing and precision.

With one last scan of the rooftops, she began mapping her route mentally. She would start at the communication towers, disable the security around the market, move toward the senator's estate, and finish with the royal gardens. It would be swift, a flash of chaos in an otherwise peaceful city.

But as Sable crouched lower, making her final mental adjustments, she couldn't shake the sense that there was something more to this mission. Something lurking beneath the surface. Still, she didn't have the luxury to second-guess herself now.

Naboo was a city waiting to burn. And she was the one who would light the match.

But all good things only came with time.

Tasia walked the streets of Theed calmly taking in the energies about her. She was born and raised in the wilderness far from from the cities so every time she came here she bathed in the tide of personalities she could feel in the force. She had been here meeting with several jedi to discuss training requirements and her official recognition as a Knight of Shiraya.

The stars were out and her eyes traced the rooftops of the classical Nabooian structures of the city. It was beautiful, but there was something strange that didn't quite sit well with her. Something was up there, something that boded ill for people, what that was she couldn't say right now. She could leave it walk on by and allow the will off the force to continue it way, or she could investigate. The decision was clear, with a single bound she was on a nearby balcony and walking up an external stairs case to try and get a better vantage. She continued up several floor until she reached a low rooftop. She squatted down and breathed slowly trying to pick out the alien presence from the noise of those below her.

"Come on, focus." she said to herself. The dark presence flickered in and out like trying to spot a single person in a shifting crowd. She was naturally gifted in the force but her formal training was limited, she could pick out the breeding pair of birds in a flock of sparrows, but people were different. "Where are you?"

She stayed still as the so-called Knight of Shiraya made her way up, her movements careful but lacking the fluidity of a true predator. A hunter, perhaps—but one used to open spaces, not the tight, shifting battlefield of a city at night. Sable waited until the woman stilled, crouched in concentration, trying to sift through the noise of the living city for a presence that did not wish to be found.

Tasia would find the presence soon enough. Small, untamed, but horrifically twisted in the force.

What would start as a whisper of darkness at the edge of perception, would soon become a blanket of cold that the Knight's senses like a cold wind at her back.

Sable would loose a small sigh, inching forward, before moving to reveal herself to the woman. Best to just get this over and done with than to draw it out.

“Are you looking for someone?” She calls out, her voice distorted by her modulator, the rather dark attire she wore would more than likely be seen as concerning.

Tasia felt the building darkness and the coldness that wrapped around her trying to penetrate to her core but she resisted it's attempts and cracked her neck ready.

"Are you looking for someone?"

She heard the modulated voice and turned towards the woman clad entirely in black armour. "Perhaps, or perhaps I am just out enjoying the stars of my homeworld? You on the other hand pose so many more questions." she pulled her saber hilt off her belt clip and held it in her hand, she would not strike first, it was not the jedi way, but the sensation of darkness from this individual was unmistakable and she knew she was ready to fight the Sith in front of her.

Thirty metres or so below her the people went about their daily business unknowing about the potential duel. "I am Tasia Palpatine of the Order of Shiraya, I ask you, what are you doing here?"

Sable tilted her head, her stance casual despite the lethal readiness coiled beneath her armor. She let the silence stretch between them, her red eyes briefly flickering over Tasia's form, taking in every detail. She could feel the weight of the woman's presence, the attempt to project an aura of calm under the tension that hung in the air. She could almost taste the battle looming—Tasia had already made her intentions clear.

"Out enjoying the stars?" Sable's voice was smooth, modulated, tinged with a humor that didn't reach her eyes. "How charming."

Her fingers flexed, feeling the weapons built into her armor—the whipcord launcher remained prepared on her wrist, the concealed vibroblades itching to be drawn. She didn't need to draw her own weapon; she was already armed, her armor a deadly suit of adaptability. The moment the battle started, she'd be ready. It was almost too easy.

"Me?" Sable raised a single eyebrow, her expression the picture of calm. "I'm here because I'm always where I need to be. As for what I'm doing—well, I am allowed to sight see, am I not?"

She took a small step forward, the movement calculated, but it was the subtle shift in her stance that marked her readiness.

"I'm curious, Miss Palpatine," Her lips curled into a faint, almost mocking smile behind her mask. "Are you always so eager to make enemies, or is today just special?"
She didn't intend to start a fight this night, however.

Not yet.

Sable allowed herself to relax, and showed the palms of her hands to the woman with a lightsaber. "You're coming off rather aggressive for a woman out to see the stars."

She gave a smile that bared her teeth a little. "Aggressive? Me? Not at all, you just can't be too careful these days. Women skulking around on the rooftops dressed all in black, hiding their faces, it's a look, am I right?" she raised her eyebrows playfully, using her free hand to push her hair behind her ear.

She was the woman take a step forward and she saw the bare hands exposed to her in a move that signalled submission, or at least a move that was perhaps meant to, but Tasia knew that many creatures had hidden barbs that could be deployed without warning, why would she treat this woman differently.

"You mean you don't think we will be friends, that's a shame, it really is. I love new friends, if you'd just take off the mask maybe we could go and grab a cup of caf from somewhere. And then regret it when we can't sleep." she joked and stood with gentle ease to her. "We should at least get down from here." she gestured at the edge. "No guard rails you see."

Sable let out a quiet chuckle, the modulator in her helmet giving it a low, almost static edge. "Oh, I don't know," she mused, tilting her head slightly. "The whole 'skulking around in black, hiding your face' thing has its perks. Mysterious, intimidating—really helps when you don't feel like small talk. Besides, I could be horribly scarred under this mask, and that would just sour the mood, no?”

She stayed where she was, weight balanced, hands loose at her sides. Her visor flickered with subtle data readouts, tracking microexpressions, shifts in stance—small things, but enough to tell her that this woman was as wary as she was playful. A good combination.

"I'm flattered, really," Sable said, her tone laced with dry amusement. "But I don't do 'friends' on a first meeting. And definitely not before caf." A beat passed, and then she took a slow step forward. "But you're right about one thing—this rooftop's a terrible place for a conversation."

She glanced at the edge, then back at the woman. "Lead the way. I promise not to shove you off." A smirk was evident in her voice. "I would kill for a caf right now, though."

She could be playful too.

She would of course follow the woman down, if that was the direction this conversation would go.

A strange woman no doubt, and obviously trying to play tricks with her, but a Jedi must allow someone the benefit of the doubt and allow them to be in the light if that is what they wish, so she would make guarded talk.

"Follow me then, I know the perfect place." she guided the other woman down from the roof and to the back of the buildings a clear fire escape that would lead to ground level. "I don't believe I caught your name?" she asked politely, feigning relaxation to ease the other woman into making a move that she could respond to. The arrived at a small street vendor staffed by a droid that served caf from a steaming urn. It wasn't the most exotic location, but the caf was good and there were less bystanders.

Sable followed with a predator's grace, steps silent, movements relaxed but sharp with latent tension. Her eyes tracked everything—the exits, the distance between them, the droid, the smell of the caf. She didn't trust easily, and even less so when someone acted too polite.

Still, she played along.

"Funny," she said as they descended the fire escape, voice low and smooth like a blade being sheathed. "You sound like you're trying not to sound like a Jedi."

She stepped into the alley's faint light, hands tucked casually into her coat, though her senses were anything but casual. As they reached the vendor, Sable lingered in the scent of roasted spice and bitter caf. The warmth curled around her like smoke, but her eyes never left the other woman.

"My name, huh?"

A slow smirk tugged at the edge of her mouth.

"Most people who ask for it tend to already know it,"
she said, as if testing for a reaction. "But… sure. You can call me Dopple."

She paused, then angled her head slightly as if weighing her next words.

"Not familiar with the Order of Shiraya. Is this a performance group that has evaded my notice?" She inquires, following along.

"OK... Dopple." she responded to a name which sounded certainly like a pseudonym. She made a gesture to the batista to order two large caf and then turned to find a seat with the other woman. It was a pair of cheap metal chairs done up with ribbons to make them look more fancy next to a table that was just a little too high, revealing that it was not a matching set.

The order of Shiraya is a jedi order based on Naboo, I am one of its newest members." she thanked the young nabooian teen that brought over their cafs and paid for them. She picked up her caf and took a sip. Watching to see if the newcomer would reveal herself in order to take a drink. She was still very curious and was ready for this to be a long drawn out ruse by her potential foe, but experience had to trump suspicion or you could become paranoid, so she would give her the benefit of the doubt.

"You are armoured and armed on the rooftops of Theed, but you do not wear recognised military insignia, you can see why my suspicions are not entirely satisfied, yes?"

Sable offered a dry chuckle, the faintest tilt of her head occurred as she would follow the woman.

"Suspicion's healthy. I'd be more concerned if you weren't asking questions."

She would sit down before Tasia, looking at her calmly, her expressions remained concealed behind her mask. Her other hand tapped idly against the side of her hip where her sidearm sat holstered. She had no intention on using it, yet. But people in the past had given her reason for less. Her remaining hand fiddled with her cup of caf. She would of course, reply to the woman’s questions.

"I'm not GA. But Order of Shiraya? I can’t say I've heard of you—quiet, noble, good intentions. Hope they last."

Perhaps to spite the woman, or maybe because she didn’t want to reveal her face, Sable continued to fiddle with the drink.

"I'm technically a freelancer. Is it that suspecious if a bounty hunter comes through, Miss Palpatine?"

She leaned back slightly in her too-small chair, boots resting on the crossbar. She still fiddled with the drink. It was going to be a bit awkward to explain this situation.

"Allow me to ease your concerns, if you still have apprehension: I'm not here for you or yours. I am merely passing through. If I wanted to cause trouble, we wouldn't be talking like this."

She nodded slightly toward the caf between them.

"Still, if you've got questions…ask. Better we sort the air now before it gets thicker."

She tilted her head, slowly nodding at the woman as if realizing something.

“I never did care for Jedi, several of your friends have tried to kill me in the past. I do hope you won’t continue that trend.”

Tasia laughed and gave a slight smile. "You've given me no reason to try to kill you yet, but that you have been hunted by jedi in the past is not reassuring, we dont tend to kill for fun?" there must be a reason that the other woman had been hunted in the past so there was a chance she might turn right now and try to end this conversation violently.

She shook her head gently "We aren't part of the alliance either, Naboo is the head of the Naboo Republic, but I guess there are a lot of similarities." they both wanted peace and stability, they both fought against the darker elements of the galaxy.

"I never really trusted bounty hunters either, someone who will kill without question just for the credits doesn't sit well with me. Are you on a contract now?" she asked, there was a look of pity rather than disgust on her face, she hated the idea of bounty hunting, but understood that it was a necessity so while she would not immediately judge Dopple for having that job, the fact that someone was forced to do it made her feel saddened. Perhaps she was better being naive in her little village by the lake.

"Are you going to drink? I suppose you might not even be able to, heck, you could be a droid under that mask."

Sable smirked faintly at that, a slow, deliberate expression that barely touched her eyes.

"I haven’t been hunted by Jedi," She said, voice calm, low. "Doesn't mean I earned it. Sometimes all it takes is being in the wrong place… or being born to the wrong people. Guilty of both. But yea, some padawan was killing thugs on Nar Shaddaa, went too far, and tried to cut my head off. Interesting time."

She lifted the cup, and mimicked drinking. Of course she didn’t. "So no—not a droid. Wouldn't trust one to make a clean getaway anyway."

The side of her head tilted just slightly, catching the light, revealing a small bit of the woman behind the mask. Tasia would catch a glimpse of the woman within—ashen skin, red eyes—before she shifted, the lens reverting back to concealing her identity.

"I'm not on a contract," She added, eyes watching Tasia closely. "Not this time. If I were, I'd be long gone or someone else would be bleeding."

It was a partial lie.

A pause, then a quieter note in her voice, edged with something more tired than defensive.

"I've done ugly work. Not proud of all of it. But don't mistake me for one of those gutter scum who pulls a trigger for drink money. I choose my targets carefully. I've walked away from jobs when the credits were high, but the blood was wrong. I don’t like inefficiency."

She glanced away briefly, watching the street, as if looking for ghosts in the movement of passersby.

"You don't trust bounty hunters, but you trust Jedi?” She pondered this, rubbing her chin.

“That's fair. But don't put me in a box with the rest. I'm not here to kill or cause trouble. I'm here because someone I know, might be interested in things here. I’m just here to scout, shall we say."

Another pretend sip. Then she looked back, eyes slightly narrowed.

"But, let’s say…if I was hunting someone—hypothetically speaking—what would you do about it?"

Tasia listened to the other woman carefully, she didn't seem like good news, but at least she was talking and seemed rational. It was quite expected of a bounty hunter to be able to self justify their own actions. She was feeling less and less like this would end in violence but then Dopple, who showed herself to at least have a face, posed a complex question.

"That would allow depend on who you are hunting, why you are hunting them and what you plan on doing them. A live capture of a criminal on behalf of the authorities is very different to a vengeance killing on behalf of the Hutts. I might even help you with the first." she laid out her cards on the table, she didn't need to say what she might do if she caught the other woman on a murder for hire job.

Sable gave a small nod, expression unreadable but with the faintest trace of approval in her eyes. Well, if her eyes could be seen. She still played with the cup, feigning as if she was about to take a drink, before ceasing.

It was more fun this way. Besides, she liked keeping her face hidden.

"Fair answer," She said simply, setting her caf down with a soft clink. "You've got a good head. Clear lines. I respect that. I think I’d be willing to work with you, in such a situation."

‘Dopple’ leaned forward slightly, elbows resting on the edge of the mismatched table, fingers steepled loosely in front of her.

"I've worked both ends of that line before—the clean jobs and the dirty ones. But I don't take blood money from the Hutts. I actually have a greater purpose now."

A pause followed, thoughtful. A brief reflection of her past crossed her mind, ruminating on her several attempts and failures as a mercenary. That was the difference between them however, Sable wasn’t the failure. She was the refined product.

"But no, I’m just a sight seeing for right now. Nothing major. The mask and armor is for my own safety. No one likes a disfigured visage."

Her posture shifted ever so slightly, tone sharpening just a fraction. "But that doesn’t mean I can’t defend myself either."

She leaned back again, the moment of intensity fading into something quieter.

"I didn’t expect you to trust me. Honestly, I would suggest you not do that. But if you're the kind who helps bring in the real monsters, we're not standing on opposite sides of this table."

A faint smirk again, more tired than cocky.

"And if I was planning a vengeance killing… well, I'd probably be smart enough not to say so over caf, wouldn't I?"
She teasingly bumps Tasia’s cup with a lone finger, just to be amusing.

Or maybe, it was foreshadowing? Only time will tell.

"A greater purpose? Colour me intrigued my mysterious friend." she said to Dopple as they chatted she was still suspicious of the other woman, of course she was and then the other woman confirmed that she was right to be.

Tasia moved her mug away a little as the other woman playfully tapped it, was she flirting? Strange games were being played that the Jedi might not entertain, not yet anyway.

"Who, in your opinion, are the real monsters?" she joked, curious as to what the answer to this question might be. She understood the need for protection, perhaps not the need for hiding her face but she would not judge that if she was genuinely shy about her appearance.

Sable chuckled softly; low, smooth, a sound that slipped between amusement and something darker.

"Monsters? Depends who you ask," She said, eyes glinting behind the lenses of her mask. "Some would say it's the ones who kill in cold blood. Others might say it's the ones who smile while giving the order."

She let her fingers trail lightly along the rim of her mug, thoughtful.

"In my opinion?" She paused, gaze drifting out toward the street again, as if watching ghosts pass by. "The real monsters are the ones who twist ideals into chains. Who dress cruelty in robes and call it peace. Who tell you they're saving you while they burn everything behind them."

There was a bitter edge to her voice now—not loud, not angry, just worn. Heavy.

"I've seen too many people play hero while stepping over graves they made. Too many banners waving over ash. Eventually the galaxy will be a wasteland.”

She glanced back at Tasia then, and for a moment the mysterious veneer slipped—just a flicker of something raw behind her guarded expression.

"But maybe I'm just jaded."

The moment passed. She gave a faint shrug, tilting her mug in mock toast.

"Still…if you're the hopeful kind, maybe you'll prove me wrong. Wouldn't that be something?"

Then, with a subtle, playful curve to her lips, though it was still hidden behind her mask. Which she gingerly decided now, to remove. "I do think compared to other Jedi, you’re more interesting."

Her ashen white hair fell just short of her crimson eyes, there were signs of sleep deprivation that lingered just underneath, but she wore a soft smile that seemed unnatural for her. “Would you agree with my points, Miss Palpatine?”

Tasia smirked at the comment, interesting? Was she? She couldn't tell if that was a complement or a challenge.

The other woman finally removed her helmet and she saw her face properly for the first time. She was pretty, striking, she couldn't really tell the species but Tasia was rather sheltered and her species knowledge really only extended to regular visitors to Naboo.

"If that's what we are calling disfigured I am very curious to know what you looked liked before." she raised an eyebrow playfully and sipped her caf to cover up her smile, this conversation had not gone how she had thought.

"When i first sensed you on the roof, I had visions of you resisting, us fighting and maybe one of us being thrown off a roof. Perhaps I should be grateful that a jedi asks questions first."

She was enjoying the conversation, her suspicions were still elevated but the encounter did not look like it would turn violent, which was a relief, two force users fighting was typically a very messy and there was nearly always collateral victims.

"But where next..." she mused, asking to herself.

"You are a force user? Correct? Have you ever had jedi training? There are ways of hunting monsters while staying in the light. It's quite a satisfying life." this was very true, Tasia derived much pleasure from defeating the challenges that the vulnerable of the planet faced.

Sable tilted her head slightly, the corner of her mouth curling into something that might've been a smile—wry, unreadable, but it was there. She replied, her voice low and dotted with amusement. "If I went around showing my face to everyone, I’d be quite bad at this job."

She leaned back and drank from the cup At least, giving a soft sigh at the taste. Though her eyes were steady on Tasia as she spoke of her vision of their first encounter, calculating but not hostile. "Well, we can still go back up on the roof and try that, if you wish. I can't say it will end well for you."

At the mention of Jedi training however, Sable's expression shifted, a hint of annoyance perhaps? Her tone shifted as well, the amusement gone. "I’ve never been officially trained. A handful of lessons, but that’s all."

Her gaze dropped briefly to the rim of her cup, fingers tracing it absently. "I already hunt monsters. Would wearing a robe while doing it change my outlook that much?"

A pause. Her mind still mulling over the question, to her it was a strange thing to be asked.

"But you…almost seem sincere with that proposal. To me, that’s a rare currency these days."

Then, after a beat, her eyes met Tasia's again, more directly this time. "If I say yes, are you going to ask me to be your student or something?" The question was a jest, of course, but she still feel a bit curious as to why Tasia had inquired about this.
