Much had been left behind on Coruscant when Ares chose to leave. His home was in ruins, and had his parents not evacuated when they did, they would be dead. His sister made it out with them as well, but that was not the case for many that he had fought beside. The Sith were to blame. They were a plague to the galaxy, searching for any opportunity to gain power and keep it. As long as they were strong, as long as the machine which fed them was working, the galaxy was not a safe place for anyone.Ares had taken up the personal responsibility to weaken them. It was a fool's errand, and he knew it, but his soul would not rest until they paid for all the lives that had been snuffed out in their name. His once soft and moldable personality was cold and rigid. Are was a killer and a soldier with one mission, revenge. That would be accomplished anyway possible.
The mercenary had taken odd jobs, ones that would have made him question his morals if they still existed, in order to procure enough credits to supply himself with a ship and armor that would allow him to move about as he wished. What he truly needed was a benefactor, one that would ensure that he no longer had to take jobs that kept him away from the real target, like the job he was on now.
Ares had been hired by an antiquities dealer to make his way into Ankorat Prison and steal one of the statues that sat in the center of the main yard. Apparently the figure was of some well known outlaw that would fetch a high price at auction, a price that Ares was guaranteed a fifteen percent cut from. The proposed opening bid was enough to get him to agree to it, and the fact the man left out a very important detail. Ankorat Prison was still occupied, and it was not normal criminals.
The location itself was classified, and how this dealer knew where it was was certainly a mystery. Ares had not questioned him though, because it seemed like a fruitless effort. He should have. Failed science experiments, if you could call them that, occupied near every cell of the prison. There were no guards, which Ares found highly disturbing. The only thing of note was the smell, which he was thankful for the filtration system on his helmet, and the rock and sand covered building. This was a mistake, but he had already agreed to the job.
His brain told him to leave, but his gut told him to press on. There was something about that, whenever Ares listened to his gut it was usually important. He could not ignore the sense that there was something more to this mission, so he pressed ahead.
The main yard was in the center of the prison, and the map pulled up on his HUD made it pretty clear that the building fit the schematics he had been given. That only raised more questions about this client. The only thing that did not match was the wall, or door, blocking his way. Sounds of blaster fire, creatures growling and roaring, and humans screaming were all he could hear from the otherside. Ares attached enough explosives to make a hole bigger than was necessary. Someone needed help, and Ares wasn't going to sit by and let anyone suffer.
Maybe his morals were not entirely dead.
