Azurine Varek knew she really shouldn't be here. This place was old. She could feel the war between light and darkness that flooded its walls without even having to put effort into doing so. There were secrets here that made the blood in her veins chill, a library that wasn't necessarily abandoned, but it was certainly ruins. That war seemed at a complete standstill, almost perfectly balanced with the energies it held. She'd read about this place on Coruscant when she was trying to distract herself from the reality she lived by reading about ancient sites, and had thought that maybe visiting wouldn't be that bad of an idea. She'd wanted to explore the Galaxy a little bit more, Master Noble had even encouraged that desire, but maybe she was in over her her head with this one.

Good going, Azzie. You should just leave, go see the The Great Library rather than splunking in old ruins. That should be on Ossus, too. She thought to herself. Her curiosity got the better of her, and she moved through the shelves rather slowly, tugging at the glove on her biological hand. She didn't want to put herself in a position where she was alone in a place like this, fighting to keep the darkness out of her mind from the unwanted echoes of objects because she didn't yet have the best control over her psychometry.

Maybe this place had been a library once, but it didn't seem like much of one anymore. There were a few tomes that her eyes caught, an ancient way of storing the writing that she hadn't seen up close having only read about it.

One of them in a corner, nestled into the shelving, seemed to give off a lighter aura, and she pulled it from it's position, wondering what could be written on it. It was in a language that she didn't fully understand, and she mumbled some curses under her breath.

Azzie, if there is something you want to know, it would be wise for you to ask Valery Noble Valery Noble , or even Efret Farr Efret Farr .

She heard Kynn's words in her mind, cautious and hoping to urge her to leave. For some reason, that only made her want to keep going out of a mix of defiance and pain. She didn't know what she was looking for exactly. Maybe she was just looking to satisfy her overbearing curiosity, but she wasn't going anywhere just yet.

Reign figured he could call it a field trip. The Diarchy was roughly in the area anyways where they had finalized their deal for ships with the Empire of the Lost. It had not been a large stretch to take his shuttle, and his daughter's to go visit the great world of Ossus, the site of Exar Kun's assault on the Jedi searching for their hidden knowledge of the Sith. Exar Kun had been the closest before the great Darth Sidious to bringing the Republic to its knees.

He brought his shuttle down low, heading not for the great library, which would have been enriching on it's own, but for the ruins. He was hoping to impart a lesson on the history of the wars between the Jedi and Sith and how their feud had sown chaos into the galaxy. How the Diarchy had been formed to rectify the ancient mistakes of these two conflicting powers.

As they landed, Reign stood, the ancient Sith symbols and golden accents stitched into his robes seeming to shimmer as he rose. Turning to his daughters he said
"Children, this planet was a great world of the Jedi, and came under assault from the Sith Lord Exar Kun. As we traverse these ruins, feel the force in this place, feel the weight of history and contemplate why the Diarchy must exist"
His daughters, dressed similarly but without the symbols and gold accents in their black robes, nodded their heads in acknowledgement. Rising in unison, they followed their father to the exit ramp.

As they exited, Lady Nightmare, the older and more introspective of his apprentices said
"Father, the force is strong here, a unique intermingling of both light and dark. There is much to be learned here" Reign looked upon her approvingly, her insight always made him proud.

The power and history here seemed to be overwhelming to the younger of the two. Lady Shadow seemed beside herself. For once her aggression in check as she felt the echoes of true war
"Is this what true battle feels like father? So much death, so much sorrow" she asked softly.

The lesson already serving a purpose he had not intended, potentially tempering the volatile nature of his younger daughter. Looking down on her he said
"The battles in this place were millennia ago my child, what you are feeling are echoes, a true battle, is a much harder burden to bare. The small space skirmish you had taken part in, was so impersonal, it is vastly different, to see your enemy, feel their fear mingling with your own. When the time comes, I will be by your side, and will make sure you stand strong"

The entered into the ruins of what was a library, the dusty tomes and ancient books adding a sense of sad mystery to the ruins. This was once a great place. And still was a place that his brother Darth Rellik Darth Rellik would spend hours in if he could.

As they entered an alcove, the Dark Lord stopped in his tracks, there was another presence here. A Jedi. Shadow felt it first, her aggression still in check.
"father, there's a Jedi here! What should we do?"
Smiling Reign answered "We are in no danger child, they are surely here for the same reason we are, to learn. Let us go make ourselves known"

Azurine rifled through the ruins, though it wasn't necessarily that hard given how this particular location seemed to be pretty leveled and significantly less in disarray than she expected an ancient site to be. She couldn't say she had been to very many of them yet in her life, though thinking on it, many places she had been might be considered an ancient site after about 900 years if they hadn't been maintained in all that time she'd been in stasis.

As hauntingly beautiful as this site was, it had a deep scarring to it. Battles and wars from long before now, long before the time of the first Empire and the Rebel Alliance that she had come from, left deep wounds that still seeped their energy through to the surface. Somehow, it managed to retain some semblance of balance between the light and the darkness. A fragile one, each trying so hard to overpower the other and failing.

She didn't yet have the chance to attempt to focus on another one of the dust covered tombs before she felt the presence of others enter the grounds. Three to be exact. One of them exuded a chilled darkness and strength that made the hair on her remaining biological arm stand on end. The other two, though, clearly had an affinity to the force and cold as it was, it wasn't nearly as prominently blisteringly so. Images of her past flashed through her eyes, being hunted across the galaxy with no end in sight, sending her heart racing. This time, she was alone and woefully unprepared.

Azzie's metalic prosthetic hand moved quickly to clutch the hilt of her lightsaber, and she flipped around right as the three emerged into the open room. Amethyst colored eyes narrowed, filled with the fire of her will. The gold emblems acorss his robes glited and reflected against the black fabric that gave an eerily sinister yet regal appearance. She took a step back, not saying a single word but clearly ready to spring into action if she had to, gaze moving from him to the exit that was on the other side of him and back again every so often. At least until her eyes finally landed on the girls. They were so young, also dressed in black. They were just children ... one was no older than she had been when she'd first left Iridonia to fight with the Partisans.

"I really don't want this to get ugly," she spoke softly, but firm, still ready to fight if she had no other choice and her life depended on doing so. Fear flashed through her eyes and she gripped her saber tightly, almost too tight.

They found the Jedi. Flanked by his daughters, they entered into the room where she stood. He expanded his sense, taking stock of the woman standing there. She was strong in the force, but damaged. Reign could feel her fear, but he was not here for brutality, he was hear to teach his daughters. The Dark Lord was pleased, there was an even greater lesson here than he had anticipated, he could use this.

Smiling at the woman, he opened his arms in a placating gesture
"You may put your weapon down my friend, you will have no need of it today. I am here with my children, we are here on an educational trip." he motioned to his children, who stepped forward and bowed in unison.

"Greetings" they said, always polite in the presence of their father. All three had a welcoming smile on their faces, they were not here to fight. The children emulated their father in all things, and if he were not to fight the Jedi, they would not either.

He took a step towards the jedi, still smiling.
"What brings you to Ossus?"

Azurine did her best to keep her violet gaze focused directly onto the sith lord in front of her, wondering how best to get out of this sticky situation she had somehow found herself in. Even now, somehow trouble just seemed to follow her everywhere she went, no matter if she was seeking it out or not.

Her only way out was forward, and she doubted that attempting to put to sleep was going to land in her favor when her technique with it still needed to be perfected. It would very likely work on the children, though, so Instead she filed that into the back of her brain as plan B in case a fight broke out so that she wouldn't have to potentially harm ones she considered too young. Her ability to cloak herself in the force might do it, but for how long before they'd be able to locate her presence?

She was pulled from her rapid-fire mental planning when he referred to her as a friend and ... spoke with a tone that was so much warmer than his dark presence suggested. It chipped a small gap at her guard, and she focused intently on his emotions and reading his aura. Despite her pretenses, he was somehow genuine. There was no malice in his aura.

She scoweled nonetheless, hesitant and apprehensive, "Friend is not exactly the term I use for the Empire," she spat fiercely. She had only been awake for a short time now, and the only darkside practitioners she knew of were members of the First Empire, so it wasn't necessarily a far leap for her to assume the same here.

Azzie was once again thrown for a loop when the children bowed respectfully to her, her arm holding the blade falling ever so slowly.

This might be able to work to my advantage, talk my way out of here.

The yellow blade that cast a golden light across her face was unignited, but she kept a firm grip on its hilt.

"What brings you to Ossus?"

The question left her confused. She opened her mouth to speak but couldn't seem to find the right words. What was she doing here? Looking to distract herself from her own darkness and buried turmoil would have been the honest answer, but she hadn't even admitted that to herself yet. She knew she had to say something, though, if she was going to converse a hypothetical and literal out to this situation.

"My reasons aren't exactly anyone's business but mine. For exploration should be enough."

“The Empire” Reign thought. Now that was strange. Responding to the woman, he said “I assure you, I’m no imperial. But a friend, I could be” he was still smiling at her, trying to put her at ease.

Lady Shadow, picking up on her father’s tactic said “our father has brought us here to teach us about the conflict between the Jedi and the Sith, it’s a very long story! I wish I was just exploring!”
Reign gave her a disapproving look and shook his head.

Looking back at the woman, he said
“I apologize, the young one is very excitable. We do not wish to intrude upon your solitude, but there is much to learn here. Please join us, a Jedi’s insight would be invaluable in the lesson I’m trying to impart. And who knows, perhaps you may learn something new of the force yourself” the Dark Lord had gleaned that the Jedi was here for knowledge, he just didn’t know what knowledge it was yet. But if he could help impart wisdom or power, he would do his best.

Tread carefully, Azurine. He may not be an Imperial, but he is still playing you.

Azzie heard the words echo through her mind. The ever-present soul of her former master tied directly to her own even in death. The strength of their dyad had been so concretely woven together that attempting to unbind them could very likely result in her own death, a fact that she didn't yet fully understand.

A small gust of wind carried the feeling of his hand against her shoulder, giving a soft squeeze, and then it was gone. Her heart ached, and she held her eyes shut for a brief moment.

I know that. I'm not stupid, but this is the only plan I have right now.

Her eyes, filled with a complexity of knotted emotion and making the violet hues dim like smoke, passed from the two girls to Darth Reign. Though she tried to hide it, the youngest one's demeanor and curiosity made her crack a bit of a smile.

"History isn't as boring as you think, kid. It's full of puzzles, mystery, and inspiring stories," she said, trying not only to attempt to keep herself in a position of conversation that she could use to her advantage to escape, but possibly influence the child towards the light if she could.

She didn't feel like she had much of a choice in the matter. Hanging her saber hilt from her belt as a symbolic white flag, she took a step to the side to implicate the answer to his offer, albit begrudgingly and still ever so watchful of his every move, "If I've learned anything, it's that there's no such thing as coincidence. So if we're both here at this time, there's likely a reason for it."

She didn't trust him, no, not in the slightest, but if she could get out of this without bloodshed of girls no older than young teens and her life intact, then that seemed the better choice here.

Lady Nightmare took the opportunity to chime in at this time, assessing the woman four years her elder. “There’s much one can learn about their future, by studying the past. The Jedi claim the future is always in motion, but Father tells us, that our story is ours to right, our will is what determines our path”

Looking at the Jedi, Reign nodded as she clipped her hilt to her belt. A sign that she was at least receptive. Moving toward her, The Dark Lord extended his hand “You are quite right, there must be a reason we were brought together. Let us discover it together my friend. I am Lord Reign, these are my daughters, Nightmare and Shadow. Come, let us seek answers together.”

With that he walked towards the end of the hallway, hands clasped behind his back, his apprentices trailing slightly behind him. Busying himself with a study of the ruins and making small anecdotes to his children.

Looking back over his shoulder, a broad smile on his features he called back
“come, join us, there is so much to see, so much to learn”

"Guess that's one belief we won't fully agree on. I think that destiny affects our choices just as much as our choices affect our destiny. Destiny doesn't take away will, but will also doesn't diminish destiny. A give and take," Azurine responded. That wasn't exactly something she'd learned from the Jedi. In fact, that was something she'd started to believe long before she'd ever met Kynn and been set on her current path.

She took a quick step backward when he approached her, once again scanning his emotions for any sign of malice before allowing herself to cautiously approach. She took his hand with her metal one, given that the right one was the one she was missing, and hoped that she didn't accidentally squeeze too hard with the lack of any feeling the cybernetic arm had, "Azurine."

The last time she had crossed paths with anyone of this nature, she'd lost everything and everyone she loved and was thrown into a future she was still desperately trying to understand. The time before that was the day she lost her arm. Every now and then, she still felt seering pain in her shoulder as if her arm was on fire, when there was nothing to actually burn. Phantom pains Raeth had called them. Said it was common for losing a limb. She doubted the sound of a wheezing ventilator accompaning it was though, though it was a sound that would haunt her nightmares likely for the rest of her life. With past interactions like these, it was extremely unsettling as well as intriguing how this Lord Reign was acting towards her. Did he really want her input? She had no idea, but her gut leaned towards no.

Azzie walked along the hallway after them, her eyes never leaving him in case he tried to pull something that would have her caught completely off guard.

"How much do you know about what happened here?" She eventually asked. She really only had the basic summary, but her curiosity was just too strong not to at least ask, knowing she could always fact-check his answers once she managed to find an opening to take off.

Reign paused for a moment, thinking back through his own lessons before answering. “Ossus was a very important planet to the Jedi, being the first planet they moved to after Tython. It was said to be the repository of all the knowledge the Jedi had accumulated, including their knowledge of dark arts and Sith artifacts. It was this fact that brought it under attack by the Jedi Knight turned Sith Lord, Exar Kun. Kun desired the Sith secrets hoarded here. This place was once beautiful, but during the war, the Cron Cluster was detonated. Devastating the planet”

Reign paused, letting the words sink in before continuing. “many say the dark knowledge contained here still exists, others that the knowledge of the ancient Sith exist now only in lessons passed down from generation to generation, master to apprentice”

The Dark Lord observed the Jedi as he spoke, looking for some hint of her purpose on this planet.

Azzie listened quietly, paying careful attention to his hands as he spoke. She didn't trust him, not at all, but she was interested if only by the way he seemed to react to and treat her that other darkside practitioners had never done. She wanted to know what the difference between them was.

"When I came from, the new Great Library wasn't even a thing, all I had were the stories of ruins told by the Guardians of the Whills," she didn't quite realize just how much that statement gave about her reasons for being here, practically advertising how she was a relic displaced from time herself, not even after they came out of her mouth. Of course, the old and rickety lightsaber hilt, too, had that same air about it,

"I'm not exactly interested in sith secret knowledge, thanks," she said, attempting to be dismissive, but there was still a nudge of curiosity in her, and not even moments later she found herself asking another question,

"Exar Kun- didn't he kill himself just to haunt his own temple?" Though the query came out more mockingly than she had intended, it had always sounded incredibly foolish to her what he had done. Baine's stories sadly didn't have the best of details given the times, and maybe more of them could help put those pieces into perspective.

“When I came from” Reign had not missed that, this person was displaced in time. How interesting a concept.

When you are from? What happened to you?” the Dark Lord asked, his curiosity piqued. Who knows the stories this Jedi could tell.

Reign couldn’t help but chuckle at the second comment.
“no knowledge is expressly good or evil my friend, only what we do with it. You turn away from the knowledge of the Sith because you view it as ‘evil’ where from a certain point of view the Jedi could be called evil”

he maintained his small while answering the third question. “that view of the legend reeks of the bias of the Jedi. Kun attempted a ritual to free his spirit from his body, attempting to expand his power to a level higher than any ever achieved before. But he found himself trapped within his temple on Yavin IV.”

looking to his children he could see them hanging on the every word, this was the first they’d heard of this legend.

Azurine ran her hand through her inky black hair, fingers pushing some loose strands from her face. Part of her knew she had said too much, but at the same time, it's not like she was trying to hide it.

"I fought for the Rebel Alliance, carbonite stasis happened. End of story," she spoke swiftly, not ready to spill her guts to the people she trusted, let alone a Sith Lord. 900 years she'd lost, displaced from the galaxy and barely breathing when she'd been awoken. The needles in her heart from it were still fresh, and the wounds she carried into this time from her life before (both internally and externally like her arm) heavy on her as if it had all happened yesterday and not centuries ago. It fueled a deep darkness buried in the hidden corners of her soul that was clawing to be set free underneath the crushing entrapment of her stubborn desire to keep fighting it.

"I understand your sentiment, alright. But that doesn't mean you're right. Some things are just too dark to ever be used with good intentions right? If an answer to a mystery means I lose all of my will to help the people who can't help themselves to get there, I don't know if it's worth it. I'd rather not be insulted after everything I gave my entire life fighting to protect by trying to tell me that what I've done is the actual evil." It wasn't a long life yet. She was no older than 21, and it showed, but her eyes held the weight of a thousand lifetimes, battles, and struggles.

"No matter his intention, absolute power corrupts absolutely. No one lives forever. It's just not possible." She muttered softly, pain etching itself deep into her eyes at her final statement, almost radiating off of her aura against her push to keep it hidden. The source of at least some of her termoil.

Reign was caught off guard by that. “From so long ago. The pain you must be feeling. Everyone you knew and loved.. gone.. I’m so sorry” The Dark Lord said. Thinking of how it would be to awaken 900 years in the future, his children and wife gone. All he fought for a distant memory.

The dark lord listened patiently to the Jedi, his recent experiences with Jedi had given him some insight into how their minds work.
“I hear you, but tell me this, if you must touch the darkness to save an innocent, is it worth it? Is your will fragile enough to be compromised by learning the power to save someone you love? The Jedi put away themselves in fear of being corrupted, but you are stronger than that.”

Reign did not think the last statement was meant for him to hear, but he did, and smiling broadly at her responded “I will have to disagree with you. Yes power can corrupt, but only when power is garnered selfishly, and used without a pure purpose. I believe in the sharing of power and knowledge for the sake of bettering another is a noble pursuit”

Azurine was baffled by how Darth Reign seemed to respond to the pain that she carried ... with such sympathy? No, it was empathy. That couldn't be right, though. It lowered her guard a little more than she would have liked. She wanted to speak, but for a moment, she lost her words, choking on the pain she felt that still had yet to truly go away.

"The galaxy isn't what it was," she whispered, that being the only words she could find to say, casting her eyes to the ground rather than continuing her hawk like observation of him. She wished she knew what he wanted from her, and searching his aura was getting her nowhere except lowering her caution more and more every second, the next words he spoke made her stop,

"If you must touch the darkness to save an innocent, is it worth it?"

Her thoughts drifted back to the incident on the Tie Fighter Facility above Narr Shadda a long time ago. Their odds hadn't looked good, the guarding AT-ST had knocked back the multipes of her team members before she watched as an unfinished tie fighter hull was launched straight at Kynn while he had been focused on dodging blaster fire, knocking him unconsious and barely breathing to the ground. Then it headed straight for him. In that moment of desperation, her fear and her anger, as well as her determination, overwhelmed her mind. The only thing she could think was Save them, save him. Every ounce of power she had was put into what she'd done after, crushing the machine into a small tight ball and cutting it in half. She still remembered how that coldness had taken over her ... but the fear she held was how she didn't regret it. Would she be willing to do that again in a similar situation? She didn't know if the answer was no.

"All the power in the world can't extend someone's life, Lord Reign, and it certainly can't bring back the dead."

The Dark Lord could feel her pain through the force. He laid a hand on her shoulder, giving it a comforting squeeze. Looking into her eyes he said “I can’t claim to understand the pain you are going through, but there is a strength in you, I believe you will make it through. In the brief time we share, my children and I will help you find what you seek”

He could feel the turmoil within her, the touch of darkness that she had gone through. Reign, however, zeroed in on her last statement. "All the power in the world can't extend someone's life, Lord Reign, and it certainly can't bring back the dead." What an interesting thought.

“From the Jedi’s perspective you would be correct my friend. But.. what if I were to tell you that there is a path back from the netherworld? and in a more ‘solid’ form than the ghosts you are familiar with.” Reign knew of the technique, knew also that his brother was familiar with it, knowing what he did of Freedon Nadd, Darth Bane, and Darth Sidious. If the essence were still present, it could be done.

Azurine visibly flinched away from the touch at first, her hand trailing to her lightsaber, only stopping when Darth Reign gave her shoulder a squeeze that didn't feel like a threat at all. She wanted to run, cloak herself within the force and escape as she had intended to do when she first laid eyes on him, but she was rooted to her spot. It didn't matter how convinced she was she was being manipulated, how much she distrusted him deep down. She found herself ever more curious about him just by how differently he acted to any Sith she'd ever interacted with before.

Your curiosity may be a strength, but it is going to get you hurt here, Kynn whispered into her mind, and she gritted her teeth, clenching her fists to hard at her sides that her biological hand started to turn white.

She shook her head, trying to dispell the confusion of emotions that kept creeping through her soul and keep all of that darkness she had bottled up inside from escaping its containment.

Slowly, her shifting amethyst hued eyes blinked up at him once again, the shock, pain, and confusion plastered obviously across her face. That couldn't be right, could it? No. If someone's body had long since gone back onto the cosmos, there was no way they could be brought back, right? She stopped dead in her tracks, staring into his piercing yellow eyes and looking for any visibly sign of dishonesty. "That can't be possible, can it?"

Azzie, don't.

The words in her mind of the man she would have crossed the galaxy for in an instant were clear as day, spoken with so much worry, but they didn't seem to break her concentration away this time.

I could bring him back ...? No, that doesn't sound right, she thought, but the seed had already been planted. She looked at him as if to ask for more information without blatantly doing so. She needed to know what he meant. She had to.

He felt the shift in her, distrust and reprehension were still there yes, but there was something else amidst the pain and fear. Was it hope? The Dark Lord felt it like a small spark.

Looking back at her, he answered.
“it is possible to learn this power.. but not from a Jedi.” he paced back and forth slowly, hands clasped behind his back.

“there have been Sith, in the past, to utilize this power. If your will is strong enough, I have the resources to teach it to you. You can see the loved one you miss so much again, all you have to do is ask” his eyes burrowed into her, as if reading her very soul.

He would need to contact his brother for the intricacies, but he did know how to achieve this power.

Azurine Varek, don't you do this! You are being played! Azzie hadn't heard Kynn's voice raise like this at all since she had been awoken. Even back during her time as his student, she could count on only one hand the amount of times he had ever raised his voice at her. It cut through her thoughts and made her flinch. He had always had one of the most gentle, kind, loving demeanors, but on the rare occasions that he could get pushed, he was a terrifying force to behold. Demons run when a good man goes to war.

You don't know that.

Do you have any idea what this will do to you?! Your strength in the matter is completely irrelevant and you should know that! I thought I taught you better than this!

"You don't understand ..." The words came out like a whisper on the wind, not intending them to be said out loud, but either way knowing that he would hear them.

Please, Azzie. You know I would take your pain in a heartbeat if I could, but this isn't the way. She held her eyes shut tight, tears now quickly falling down her face despite that. She had not wanted to show this kind of weakness in front of a sith lord of all the people that could bare witness to it, but she couldn't hold it in. She still blamed herself for everything, especially his intentionally sacrificing himself for her. She would have died for him if he'd given her that chance, no hesitation. The idea that their souls were tied so tightly together and yet forced to be so far apart had been eating her insides slowly ever since she'd learned what had happened, spiraling through her mind and gnawing a way for her inner demons to reach through.

"I-I'm not saying that I trust you, but-" she hesitated, but at least in this moment, her mind was made up. She looked him in the eyes, her own full of her desperation and agony. She wanted more information, whether or not she used it was another matter altogether, but she needed to know more, "Show me."

Darth Reign, Sith Lord and Lord of the Diarchy, nodded in acknowledgment of the Jedi’s request. Saying “there are two methods to achieve your goals, both taxing and with their own dangers. For the rituals, I require the assistance of my brother. I will summon him here and we will guide you.”

Walking away, Reign utilized his personal communicator, comming his brother Darth Rellik Darth Rellik directly. Interrupting the other Diarch during his inspection of his new ship.
“Brother, I have need of you on the planet Ossus, there is need to fix a grievous mistake made by the force. A young Jedi here is in need of bringing a loved one back. Come prepared”

As Darth Reign spoke with his brother, Lady Shadow seeing the sadness in the Jedi spoke up “Don’t worry! Father and Uncle are very powerful, they will be able to help you. And we will do what we can too!”
